Apogee HypeMic - Worth the Hype?

I've been wondering if the HypeMic from Apogee Digital is really up to recording professional sound vocals and instruments, so I phoned up my buddy Ross Harding from the band Black Harbour to record an unplugged song, and needless to say, I was seriously impressed.

The mic seems to emphasize the singer's gravely voice. Is this normal?

I have trouble having it loud enough in my headphones and it does not matter if I plug my headphones in the Hypemic or directly in my MacBook. How do you hear yourself?

I just turned up the level on the Mac Air - no issues - perhaps just check the blend settings on the mic?

It's a Yamaha LLTA Transacoustic featuring a transducer that emits both chorus and reverb effects out of the sound hole as you play. Highly recommend checking this guitar out.
