- The African Sidewinder Snake aka the Perenguey's Adder ( Bitis peringueyi ) is a venomous viper adapted to living in the Namib Desert in Namibia and Southern Angola. The sand is a difficult surface to gain traction on so the sidewinder snake / Perenguey's adder has learned to propel its body with the sidewinding motion to push itself up a dune gaining more surface area and forward momentum. Like most of the species living in this desert, it has also learned to drink water from the mist / dew in the morning as well as getting water from its prey, including the Shovel Snouted Lizard ( Meroles sp. ), which actually has a second bladder. Like its prey, the Sidewinder is able to dig itself under the surface of the sand to stay out of the direct sun, as well as keeping camouflaged with just its eyes which are located on the top of its head emerged, perfect as an ambush predator. This sidewinder snake has a cytotoxic venom which is sufficient to demobilise & digest its prey. Its venom isn't considered deadly to humans.

What Are Creature Features?
All creatures have evolved different tricks to survive in the wild places they call their homes! Each animal has an awesome story about how they look, what they eat and even how they move! Creature Features spotlight the stories behind these crazy cool adaptations.
The Science:
With over 1 Million species on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species, animal populations are in decline the world over. This is due to many reasons but what we know for sure is to keep the planet's amazing diversity of wildlife we need to learn as much as possible about where and how these creatures live their lives. Collating all the data we are gathering will help build a picture of which habitats are key to sustaining the largest diversity of life on planet earth.
Thanks to our amazing team without whom the series would not have been possible!

how was bro brave enough to hold a VENOMOUS snake 🤯😯
The way that reptiles adapt to desert life is absolutely incredible, and almost nothing does it better than the Peringuey’s Adder. Seeing one up close in its natural habitat was incredible, and the video was made so much better by your enthusiasm and energy! As always you’re a ton of fun to watch and I learned a bunch of cool things. Great work Jack!

Shovel snouted, legit. Nice find. Such a cool-looking lizard. Love the sidewinders, the ones we have here in Arizona (𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙨 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙨) move fast like the one you found. Still amazes me how critters not only survive but thrive in that environment.
Thanks guys hugely appreciate your love for these animals. I love em just like you do! Can’t wait to get to Arizona soon!

You are so similar to Steven irwin. . The way you speak. .the way you walk. . So similar
No he's not!
Needless hand-held camera shake and swipe effect between quick cuts make me nauseous. I feel like you are doing these special effects to exaggerate the drama. Stop doing this please!! I couldn't watch more than a few seconds of your video. You lost a subscriber.
Camera shake can be easily fixed in post production. And the flashes between the cuts are extremely jarring. Stop it!!
Fraudulent charge?
