    I also grew up very similar, 690A model love the sounds! Brings back lots of memories. After the A model we upgraded to a B model with pilot controls. Believe they were pretty rare ive never seen another like it.

    • @dirtgrainsteel
      @dirtgrainsteel  8 месяцев назад

      I think B models with pilot controls were only made for about 3 years I've never got a chance to run one I always thought it would be cool to try one I have a friend who has one I'm sure he would let me try it I just haven't had time to go check it out....happy to bring back the memories for you! Thank you for watching!!

      I have a 690b with the pilot controls. Bought it on craigslist 2 years ago. I have only seen these with the sticks too.
      Id like to fix it up because I like how simple it is to work on, but someone already beat the snot out of it so everybody thinks its a waste of time. My wife gets pissed when I spend money on it, but I did get lots of work done. I could imagine these were pretty solid machines.

    I would consider using a box tubing for the boom and stick to get the round corners to look like a casted part

    • @dirtgrainsteel
      @dirtgrainsteel  9 месяцев назад +1

      That is a good idea it's got that rounded edge profile

  • @hansbehrends7063
    @hansbehrends7063 9 месяцев назад +7

    Is there a reason why JD put the cab to the right side of the boom?

    • @dirtgrainsteel
      @dirtgrainsteel  9 месяцев назад +2

      That's a good question I'm not really sure why the cabs on that side but back in the day some draglines had the cab on that side and my old grade has the cab on that side

    i wonder if you couldn't use small pipe welded in to give you that rounded edge.

    Nice little episode of a rescue repair on a friend's excavator.
    Easy peasy fix.
    The RC model of that machine is really cool.
    You'll have all your fellow excavator operators jealous.
    You definitely gotta film some episodes of that build.

      @@dirtgrainsteel.
      Awesome, no doubt that you'll get lots of likes when you do.
      Lot's of us guys out here into RCs.
      I just wish I could afford 2 hobbies.
      Actually, my profession is/was a hobby for most people.
      I repair, refurbish and service call arcade and pinball games, jukeboxes, pool tables and anything you can put a quarter in abd have fun as well as product vending equipment.
      Pretty much retired now.
      Next spring after I turn 70 this October will be the last time I recover/refurbish the two pool tables at my favorite sports bar where I just watched Michigan win the championship.
      Go Big Blue.
      Wife just bought me the jersey with their season record on the back.
      Yuppers, I'm originally from the first small farm town north of Flint Michigan.
      One of my favorite songs is John Mellincamps Small Town and Jack and Diane.
      That one pretty much summed up my high school years and my high school girlfriend was named Diane.
      Growing up in a small Michigan farm town was awesome.
      Lot's of friends who lived on their family farm.
      In high school the place to be on weekends was Ferdells farm grasser bonfire parties.
      Kegs, garage bands and my Diane.
      Two hay wagons for a couple bands to set up on.
      No nieghbors to complain about the noise in a large clearing in the middle of some woods.
      You got it made where you live.

      @ronaldheit196 them are some of my favorite songs also I like alot of his songs!! That's the cool thing about you tube is the diversity of the poeple who watch I think it would be so cool to work on arcade games I love pin ball games all the lights and different things in them some day I'm going to get me a pool table when I have room for it!! And yes that's exactly how I grew up my friend owned a feed store and we always went to feed store party's or we went to the local bowling alley on Sunday evenings during the winter the problems is them times just went to fast now all my friends are married off and have kids of there own and them times are just memories

      @dirtgrainsteel .
      There's now an orginization call IPPA International Pinball Players Association that promotes places that have Pinball games and helps set up leagues and tournaments.
      If a bar/club owner notifies them they have one or more Pinball games on location they promote that location on their site.
      It has bought Pinball back into popularity..the only dedicated highly successful Pinball game manufacturer these days is Stern Pinball company.
      Founded by 3 generation Pinball manufacturer Gary Stern.
      His grandfather founded Stern Pinball on the 1920's.
      In the 70's Williams Pinball bought it and Bally Pinball companies.
      They continued making Pinball games under the Bally name till they finally closed thet division.
      One of my favorites was Ms. And Mrs. Pac Man Pinball game.
      My all time favorite Tommy the Who Pinball game.
      It has a motorized fan that spreads out and covers the flippers so you're playing the ball being like Tommy on the song Pinball Wizard.
      I owned one at one time when I was living down in the Keys as the service manager for the largest amusement vending equipment company in the upper Keys.
      I actually won tickets to see The Who playing Pinball in a competition at the only location TLC didn't own the equipment.
      That's another story.
