I think he without a doubt would have let them go. Soldier Boy may be an asshole and a bully, but he seems to have a form of code and honor. He is a man of his word after all, since he upheld his deal with Butcher. So Yeah, he would have let them live.

I do kind of feel bad for the TNT Twins. Unlike the other members of Payback they didn’t seem like horrible people. Were they pathetic? In many ways, but you can’t help but feel that they didn’t REALLY deserve to get killed. I know they were quick to throw Black Noir under the bus but in their defense, Noir is a murderer devoted to the immoral people (even though he did always seem to be manipulated by them) at Vought and Soldier Boy did say he’d spare them (though we all know he was never going to let them live even if the Russian music didn’t start playing).

I think Gunpowder’s death was definitely the worst. Because he was first punched, giving him a sting for 23 seconds. Then beaten, giving him more pain, then finally lasered.

Gunpowder is a supe. He's got superhuman accuracy (note the trick shot he uses against Butcher in their first fight.) Add in that pretty much all supes in The Boys have at least low end super strength & durability and Butcher would have been seriously outmatched without powers.
Gunpowder has the usual supe powers in this universe, they all seem to generally have increased durability and strength. Gunpowder also has superhuman accuracy as we saw by his ricochet. They needed v24. Even if Gunpowder didn't have powers, Butcher isn't bulletproof lmao but with v24 he is.
And killing him is just who Butcher is, have you not been paying attention, Butcher literally bashed Mesmer's head into a sink until he died and didn't gain anything from it lol, he was just pissed.
I understand perfectly well he is like that. I'll repeat myself: Would've been a good change if they did something about that. Make it more warranted in every case, maybe not apply it at all, among other options. But not of that matters as it's clear the show won't alter he's character, at this point all I care about is if he's gonna do the bad ending or a new one. I don't like Butcher
