      for a 25 kWh battery pack and in such a big heavy car... 70 mi. is not bad... but it's a shame that its space frame tunnel, does not house a battery pack too... and making the small easy to access, rear pack swappable, would have made sense too... IMHO...

      @@dennishedrick5308 Obviously, the range is enough for the owner. I have seen photos of a DeLorean conversion with the rear area packed with batteries. I don't know what the capacity was on that car though. I will say that I think it's pretty cool that you can SEE the motor, charger, DC/DC, etc in this car, instead of just having a solid rear end of batteries.

    Nice to see an electric Delorean.
    In the early 90s, I used to maintain and repair a DMC12 for a friend.
    The engine was a pile of rubbish, so converting to electric is about the best thing that could happen to it.
    We also go the old "it's the flux capacitor mate", when the engine cover was up in the pub carpark, because the rubbish engine refused to start when it was time to go home for the night.

    for those wondering, the original Delorean engine is a 120HP (its actually 140HP but all of the USA smog crap gimped it) Peugeot-Renailt V6 engine. While its possible, you really don't want to get one of these up to 88MPH.

  • @GeekTherapyRadio
    @GeekTherapyRadio 2 года назад +13

    250hp is largely considered the sweet spot for DMC 12, so 260hp/240ftlb is likely almost ideal. 0-60 is likely 5-6 seconds...maybe even in the 4s....
    As far as range, 25kw is cool for a fun, around town weekender. No doubt you could add more battery to the "frunk", the rear parcel shelf, and/or transmission tunnel (maybe). It would probably help weight distribution too. You could probably rather easily get her up to 60kw or more. A decent 200-300+ mile range.

  • @karelschmidt5195
    @karelschmidt5195 Год назад +4

    Nice conversion. They have put the batteries low to maintain good handling, the weight distribution should be ok too. I expect lot of fun to drive. These restomods usually don't have bigger range since it is not easy to fit and you don't need it. Drive the car to a nice place for an hour have lunch enjoy and charge for the way back. That's what it is about. And it is very well made thanks to the possibilities of his business.

    Hi Benjamin, Incredible EV conversion!
    Any chance to ask the owner of this Delorean what bulb he's running in the parking light???? This 5:38 is yet another example of dozens of Deloreans that I see has a photometric flaw & apparently, I'm the ONLY one who can see it, & knows of the exact reason for this original design flaw that will end up becoming highly controversial once or if I decide to inform the Delorean community about. My initial observation was confirmed by visual confirmation of the internal design optics, & then thru original blueprints. Just for the heck of it, I have to run my concerns by senior transportation photometric engineers & a certification lab to show them what I found...... its for this reason, the running/parking lamps are too dim, & can't meet legal minimum luminescence standards of FMVSS 108, & is a safety to all Deloreans for rear lighting conspicuity. Its technical.!!!!!!!
    Just can't believe they got away with the original design that I think was "Rubber Stamped" , & I'm sure a recall was pending before Delorean went out of business......alot of people were out to make Delorean fail, & this issue would've taken all those cars off the road or forced a cease in sales due to a safety defect.
    I have some ideas to greatly enhance these tail lights safety, but essentially they are all not SAE/DOT compliant & can never be made and/or would need recertified after certain & multiple modifications. I bet the owner is running one of the many types of non compatible LED's which does not & can not properly emmulate light distribution in addition to this defective design optic. Just very curious on what bulb he is using.......

    Just read an article past few week of new battery technology. Not knowing anything about EV technology, Is this yet available to the open market, & will it boost power or only range????
    - News Release - A research team from the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has developed a sodium-ion battery with greatly extended longevity.
    The US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory has developed a lithium-air battery that could significantly increase the range of electric vehicles.
    A group of researchers at Harvard University's School for Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS) has had a breakthrough with the lithium-metal battery tech. They have managed to stabilize the lithium-metal battery and figure out a way to charge and discharge them over 10,000 times - at a high current density.

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  Год назад +6

      What's horrible about it?
      A person could design a car with a 500 mile range, but why? It would be very expensive, and add lots of extra weight and take up tons of space.
      If 70 miles meets the needs of the owner (and it does) then that's fine.
      Keep in mind that with an electric vehicle, you simply plug it in to charge and then walk away. You have a full charge every time you use it.
