This episode was a work of art. Amazing production values all around. It looked like it could've escaped from the original series, right down to the framerate!
Hard to believe it's now been 29 years since this documentary (and the technologically ground-breaking DS9 episode whose making it chronicles) was first put on the air. TWENTY. NINE. YEARS. And as George Takei predicted, many of them *were* still around to see Star Trek's golden anniversary in 2016. Still one of my favorite episodes of ANY Star Trek TV series.
What’s even crazier is how that technology has now handcuffed the show to remaining in the standard def world. Episodes like this are why it would be 1000x more complicated and expensive to remaster DS9 in HD than even TNG was.
It's such an achievement that they managed to bang one of these out every single week (2 a week if you enclude Voyager)! No-one's talking about it, but I think that's one of the most impressive things about this!
This is great. I recorded this off of the Sci-Fi channel when it first aired, but I missed the first segment of the show. So this is the first time I've seen the first few minutes of it.
I remember when this episode came out! So weird that they did this for a 30th anniversary, and now it is almost 30 years since this DS9 episode came out!
ENGINEER: "So, where should we start?" O'BRIEN: Well obviously the first thing we should do is to take this transtator here, and.. (The lights go down) O'BRIEN: And leave it exactly as it is." They did a amazing work with this crossover, it really feels like that the DS9 crew was on the ship & it´s definitely one of the best episodes ever.
I love the bit about the "homage to Roddenberry". Gene HATED the original episode at first, he thought it was too "camp" and would undermine the seriousness of the series.
The more I learn about that guy, the more I wonder what exactly he wanted the show to be... Because it kinda just sounds like he wanted intergalactic porn😑 I'm glad for people like Behr making amazing stories, because it sure improved after he died! Not talking about that sexist guy on purpose because he killed Jadzia😡
You know, I always wondered if there was a thought to go back to the trouble with tribbles episode and put the new footage in the background, so the new actors are there in the 60s but the plot never deals with them... retconning the episode. Just thinking out loud.
Anybody here old enough to remember when Sci Fi Channel used to show ACTUAL science fiction? A few months ago they were showing the John Wick movies. Of course, The History Channel rarely shows shows of ACTUAL history. All I see is Pawn Stars and Ancient Aliens.
Not a Star Trek fan, but I did like this episode. Incidentally, William Schallert was still alive at the time the Deep Space Nine episode was made, but I guess they didn't think of that, or did they even bother to check? He didn't die until 2016.
Was it explained in this documentary why klingons in TOS & klingons more recently look completely different from the continuity point of view? Has that ever been explained?
Personally, as a lifelong casual fan of nearly all things "Star Trek," I enjoyed the "DS9" episode of "Trials and Tribble-ations" more than the godawful "Voyager" episode of "Flashback" because George Takei and other guest stars from the 1960's original series were given limited appearances and I blame the producers for not giving them more time in it anyway. So sad when such an opportunity was wasted already during was then the 30th anniversary of The Original Series.
very true but to just be wiped out within an era is crazy yet this show is set in a future we are almost living in now, besides the space ships we basically have it all ( no fly ships)@C0LTELL0
One of my favorite DS9 episodes.
These commercials are almost as amazing as the old behind the scenes Trek videos 👌
Caught on camera , lol “ will stay etched in your mind forever “
@@ClatakesalookTIL they used to sell snuff videos on TV lmao
@@Clatakesalook I think they just actually showed people dying on tv as a fun tv ad omg
@@ClatakesalookNow we just use RUclips for that lol
@@Clatakesalook$19.99 per VHS tape lol. Do kids these days even know what VHS is?
One of the best episodes in the whole franchise. It’s personally my favorite.

Ira Steven Behr is the most "90s LA" guy ever, and he still looks like that lol
He’s beautiful
Cirroc Lofton looked super 90s too lmaoooo
now he looks like Avery Brooks haha
DS9 just has the best writing out of every show. And the effects on this episode were wayyyyy ahead of their time.

Wow that's weird seeing Ira without coloring in his beard.
13:59 they needed a full hour just on Terry Farrell getting fitted for that outfit, maybe a few shots of her putting the boots on

This was a real cool ass episode of Deep Space Nine crossing over with the original Star Trek series

That’s a great idea 😆
I actually made a cut like that using VHS when I was 15.
Thank you for including the commercials in this video as well. I always love a trip down 90s Street.
Oh My Gawd! When the Sci-Fi channel was actually science fiction.
DS9 was truly some of the greatest Trek ever.
I just rewatched this episode. Just amazing! LLAP!
Others have already said it, but these commercials are an amazing throwback
i love "movie magic"
thankyou for sharing this 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to learn how they made this masterpiece
29 years from T&T they made the DS9 TwT... now 28 years later we're watching it
And here we are almost 30 years later!
18:35 Whoops! back than they noticed issues with the old TOS footage, as we do now with DS9 footage :)
I really miss the 90's, wasn't the best personally living in the them but TV was helluva lot better then
Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but Terry seemed genuinely into it ^_^
And I remember the preview, seeing her in that micro-mini….
I wish they had cut out the commercials and that strange bit at the beginning.

Fuckin Ira Beher's shirt for this interview 😂😂😂😂😂 I love his troll energy 💯

Anybody try calling one of the 1-800 numbers from the commercials... Just to see if they still work? 😁
The ads are interesting, technology was still low with the birth of the internet being revealed.
Ah NTSC video feed...kinda miss those weird colors.
May your tribbles be few
And VHS took those coffee stains away.
Was it explained in this documentary why klingons in TOS & klingons more recently look completely different from the continuity point of view?
Has that ever been explained?
Too bad the sci fi channel choose to abandon their core audience
speaking of 30 years ago its almost 30 years since this was first broadcast.
Is the Sci-Fi Channel related to the SyFi channel?
The Sci-Fi Channel launched in 1992. Rebranded to SyFy in 2009.
Ahhh... the commercials. Man and woman. The way it should always be. U miss those days.
7:22 good timing 😊

Do you have The Making of Star Trek Deep Space Nine Who Mourns for Morn
Deep cuts .
@@Clatakesalook What does that mean?
@@chris1pugsley you’ve never heard the term deep cut. ? Allow me to tell you what it means
Unfortunately I do not. I don't believe there was ever a "making of" of Who Mourns for Morn. Good episode by the way.
@@analog_video_archives Thanks
Could of edited out the old commercials but other then that nice litte gem
Why would 63 children lie?😂
🙂🖖
The Enterprise wasn’t exactly accurate the lower sensor dome is much too big it should have been a little smaller
Amazing coincidences
WHY WOULD 62 CHILDREN LIE?!?!
aol tho XD
Terrible quality.
There are white people in the tv ads... so retro!
Its crazy how we live in almost this tech era and now star trek is lame lol
