  • Let's see if I can plan 3 meals a day with absolutely no coupons and only $10. I decided to try this at Aldi. The prices are reasonable and since Aldi doesn't accept coupons I wouldn't be tempted to use any. I had a ton of fun doing this. Let me know what you would have spent the $10 on.

I remember when I was broke, I would take whatever leftover cooked meat I had and freeze it. When I couldn’t afford to buy groceries, I would take a bag of frozen spinach, a block of cream cheese and chop up the meat I froze and make a casserole. I’m thankful for those times, because they humbled me and also taught me how to repurpose food.

And you probably already have the stuff in your pantry to make pizza. Flour, yeast, canned tomatoes, spices and cheese or cheese-less with whatever toppings you can find in your freezer/fridge.

Why not a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread vs those buns, meatloaf you can reuse as meat for your spaghetti or sandwiches for lunch, instead of premade sauce get the tomato paste and sauce and your seasonings (the seasonings will last longer and you can use them later.

At my local ALDI $10 can get you: rolled oats, 1-2 apples, ~1.5lb bananas, pb, bread, dried beans, rice, frozen mixed veggies, eggs, and tuna (& possibly a box of jello).
Meal Ideas: french toast, oatmeal w/bananas and/or pb, egg sandwich, beans/rice, tuna/rice, veggie fried rice w/eggs, pb sandwich w/banana, oatmeal pancakes w/pb, veggie scrambled eggs with toast.
Snacks: jello, 1/2 banana w/pb, hard-boiled eggs, 1/2 apple with pb, toast with pb.

Both you and Tiffany were hilarious 😂 y’all commentary had me cracking up! When I was hella broke, I made a lot of soup, specifically chicken and dumplings. It’s basically flour, butter bullion cubes and milk. I would get the cheapest cut of chicken I could get (chicken backs) and my bf and I would eat on that for DAYS. It would double as lunch and dinner. Oatmeal w a banana n a tablespoon of peanut butter is more filling than cold cereal. We also did a lot of stir fry, cheap cut up veggies, sautéed with rice and throw some chicken backs in there. Cabbage is always cheap, cook that down with spices then have herb rice (put some fresh or dry herbs in it) and chicken.

Corn flakes a staple! It’s used versatile- you can use it for breakfast, you can crush it up
and bake it used as cake batter for corn bread or use it as flour for fried chicken or fish. Salsa is also versatile, you can use it as a veggie topping on your eggs, salsa dip or sautéed veggie in your dinner meal. Can’t go wrong with pasta either because you can recreate the pasta after cooking it. Ground beef or chipped steak is a staple in multiple meals (breakfast lunch or dinner). Go cheep and get hamburger patties and chop it up fine while cooking- there goes your ground beef plus you still have burger patties to make either burgers or Salisbury steaks ☺️

just some suggestions: You could get oatmeal that can be soaked to get "oatmilk" that can be subbed for cows milk (also healthier) and can still be used to cook into other foods after the soaking , & use for the fiber (make muffins or something). OR can put into blender/grinder and made into flour to cook with etc... think outside of the box ladies! (and oats tend to be cheap and fairly good for you). Just as an example.

This is actually a good start, but hot dogs are something I stay away from now.
I can make a few suggestions, my kids grew up eating home made meals full of fiber and protein. My food budget was about $40 a week and I could do it, including dish soap and laundry soap and snacks, for $15 if I needed too, back in the 90's. Home made iced tea for a beverage, I didn't sweeten it, but you could. I'd make chilli and the leftovers were used for nachos it a pie that I made with a corn chip or corn bread (yes!) crust, with a bit of cheese on top. Mostly you should add veggies, and frozen spinach or the veg you had works. You can make a quiche with the eggs, spinach, and cheese, if you have it, mix it with a half a recipe of your muffin mix; it will separate when you bake it, and make a "crust". Pasta salad with some tuna or less expensive canned fish options, also. Beans and rice ( together or separately) are good sources of protein. And of course, beans are carbs, too. We need protein, carbs and fats to live, just choose good fats. Plain oatmeal is a great food; put whatever you want in it. You can make refrigerator cookie balls with cocoa powder, water, Stevia or a small amount of sugar, add raisins and chopped nuts. Mold by hand, place in a bag and refrigerate. Oatcakes, too. I always kept cans of beans (chilli flavored, too), diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, some cheese, pasta, some canned or frozen veg, and potatoes, even plain boxed ones back then ;you can make a lot with those basics! Nice video. ☺

Chili is kind of expensive to make on a $10 budget when she still needs breakfast and lunches. I used to buy groceries for the month and only spend $100 for my family and we ate good back in the early 2000's. Meat, fruit, veggies and pretty much every thing was so much cheaper back then. Back then one of the stores I shopped at would have meat specials a certain day of the week and I would go on that day and my gosh I could fill my freezer, fridge and cupboards back then for $80 and I would run every couple of weeks just to get fresh fruit, lettuce and a gallon of milk and would leave Rainbow with a paper bag jam packed full for $10 or less. Back then I could get a 5lb bag of apples for $1.50. Lettuce was like 33 cents. It was all so much cheaper back then. Wages haven't gone up a whole lot since back then either. Many people still work for less then $15. Then add in the horrible prices of rent. Homes have skyrocketed also. I am waiting for it to all crash again like it did back in 2008/2009.

For example,t tortillas can be a pizza crust, fried for chips, wraps, bteakfast burritos, etc. Tomato paste can be seasoned to make pizza sauce, lasagna / pasta sauce, seasoning for mexican and meat dishes. Keep trying to use products for multiple meals. Use ice trays to make pudding/jello in smaller servings. Always divide meat for multiple meals. Great use of eggs!Great thinking outside the box! I would have gotten a loaf of bread instead of the buns as that can last for a few different meals. Left over bread can always be frozen for another time :)
Also, I wouldn’t get the cereal. It’s not very multi use. I would have bought a large bag of oats which probably costs the same. You can use them for so many things. Overnight oats, baked oats, oat milk, blend them to a flour and make pancakes (as you had eggs and milk) , mash oats with a banana and bake for a healthy snack bar. They’re so versatile.
For the pasta, sauce and ground meat, I would have probably not bothered with the meat and got a tin of pinto beans, mung beans or lentils to pad it out and give you the protein that way instead of the meat. Way cheaper. If there’s any left overs, Chuck in some curry sauce and reheat the next day and make it more of a curry.
For the eggs, if you got a zucchini, you could make a frittata/omelette type thing and have that over a couple of days for lunches/snacks. Can be reheated :)
I would have grabbed some apples so snacking, baking for a dessert, or turn into a crumble and too with some of the oats. Also, stewing them and topping your porridge :)
If there was enough left, a jar of peanut butter! Great to top porridge oats, add to the oat pancakes, add to the banana oat snack bars, smear on fresh sliced apples for snacks, in sandwiches (with fresh sliced apple is so good!) or to have on toast.
Hope some of these ideas might help! ☺️

I was thinking could have also done a bag of pinto beans that when cooked up makes enough for a week a costs like a dollar and then have some corn bread with that. And then boiled eggs for breakfast with half banana. You can cut each banana in half peeled and freeze the other halves until the night before so they don’t go bad fast. And then for lunch you could have some mac n cheese w/tuna and peas. Just get 1 can of peas to split among the Mac n cheese and 2 cans of tuna. Or you could do some straight pasta and buy butter so butter your corn bread and then use butter to add to the pasta for buttered noodles for lunch with some broccoli and butter on the side

Another thing with bread versus hot dog buns-there is lb or more in bread but like 11oz for buns. And buns sometimes cost more. Also compare weight in pkgs such as how much weight in cornflakes compared to toasty oats. Cooked oats are so good with fruit, brown sugar, cinnamon,or vanilla & milk. You can also make granola from dry oats. Rice is good choice because it is good with vegetables or beans,as breakfast,& also dessert rice pudding even from leftover cooked rice. Rice, raisins, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla,& little milk is very good!

Bimmerbabe produce is kind of expensive tho. Bananas are cheap. And potatoes might be. But most fruit is more.

Brooke Spivey buying frozen fruits and veggies are pretty cheap if your on a budget and they stay good way longer-! Tbh some homemade Chinese food with frozen veggies is pretty cheap and delicious. some dried rice, frozen veggies maybe a sauce if you don’t wanna make it yourself and some cheap beef, boom nice 5ish dollar dinner that can feed a good few people (and rice can be used frequently in multiple dishes!)

Great vid! You could even had made a couple lil sausage patties and an egg or 2 for bfast w the muffin or used a hot dog bun for toast. Can use a hot dog or 2 and put in corn muffin before baking and have lil corn dog like things. I personally prob would've gotten a loaf of sliced bread instead of the buns bc you get more uses, but hotdogs buns def make it feel less "budgetty". You could've also gotten a banana or 2. My local aldi sometimes has great sales on thing (one day I for the 12 grain bread for 19cents a loaf..) I'd keep my eyes peeled for things like that and maybe had gotten a packet of jello or pudding. Also- check the frozen aisle for ground turk or ground beef. For a pound it's usually more affordable (i cant remember the beef cost, but the 1lb frozen ground turkey at my local Aldi is usually about $1.99.)... I t's SOOOO hard to stay focused at Aldi 😆 awesome job either way- the more you do the more creative you'll get! My Mom always budget shopped when I was lil. And, now I'm a chef, I def think outside the box. Hope to see more of these so others can learn some of these tips!

Breakfast: Eggs, oatmeal, fruit...those can be snacks as well.
Lunch: potatoes (cut and bake them as French fries) small garden salad
Dinner: pasta, tuna fish salad....so many options 😩
This was fun and nerve wracking to watch 😂 next time make a list. You could’ve tweaked those meals so many ways do you don’t get tired of eating the same thing every day.

Use dried onion soup with vegetables oil in a bag. Cut up potatoes in squares. Shake the potatoes in the bag with the onion soup package with vegetable oil. Bake. It’s more delicious than plane potatoes or French fries.

Well, I can't give you points for healthy meals (no veggies in sight 😆), BUT you did accomplish the mission! Well done!
