    I’ve got one I’m rehabbing. I got it from Lowe’s for 3$ half dead so I brought it home, cut back, and repotted. I put it out by my front door and it’s kinda ugly and leggy atm but hopefully it will grow big! I want a tropical feel on my front patio :)

    I live in 9a Louisiana, and they love it here. They perform way better in full sun than they do in shade. They die back during hard winters, but I got blooms this year as they didn’t die back. They don’t spread bad in my opinion, but they will grow very tall and bushy. I’ve seen them here as tall as 6 feet.

    Love this plant!! I finally scored one last week after hunting for it for over a year. I’m in zone 6 Pennsylvania, so it’ll be coming inside for the winter with the rest of my crazy jungle. I noticed that the leaves really curl up midday in the sun. They’re well watered.. and the leaves aren’t curled in the morning or evening. I’m contemplating moving it into a dappled shade area. I’m really hoping for flowers though. Do you know if it will flower in dappled shade or does it need full sun to bloom? Thanks for the great video! Love all your vids!

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you! I agree, potted shell gingers don't like the afternoon sun like the ones in the ground down south. I have had them bloom for me in the filtered light but it wasn't a heavy set or blooms, just a few here and there, but that's how they typically always flower for me....when they flower for me.

    💚 Glad to see a new plant! No experience with it. My Aloe Vera plant project is harvesting my first gel, didn't mean to but dropped a couple pounds of bananas on it and it broke the biggest leaf so had to harvest the gel to save it. It is growing beautifully, I hope it continues. I do wonder about reportting an injured plant though, I was thinking I should change the pot. Any experience with an injured plant?

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 лет назад +1

      Hello! If the plant was growing well before the banana incident then I would just leave it be until it pushes out a few new leaves. Just to be safe. 😁

    • @TropicalPlantParty

    Hi! Great video! I just got one in the mail 2 days it's perfect, day 3 its curling and getting brown holes, help please

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  4 года назад

      hello! Alpinias like a lot of humid warmth and moisture. Usually browning is due to dryness or too much light, same thing with curling leaves. Make sure it's hydrated and not getting too much direct light. If you don't think those things are the problem, then perhaps it is too wet and the temps are not warm enough. I know, those answers are all kind of opposite of each-other, but it is a process of elimination when dealing with curling leaves.

    8-10 feet? I'd like to know where the heck that happens, I've never seen one that big. They don't grow so invasively here as some of the others (like Zingiber zerumbet, Pinecone Ginger), pretty easy to manage their size and spread.

    Thanks for the info! Zone 9a (Houston), just bought one of these beauties. The best location I have for it gets a lot of wind. (Backyard faces a lake with strong south winds) Will that be OK? Also, what to do with the container when it's 80 during the day and 40 at night? Should I drag it in and out of the garage like I do with the neem tree? Don't really have a sunny space for it indoors. 🪴
