Octavia Butler is & always will be my favorite SF author. I've read everything she's written upon publication & so many of the stories have stayed in the front of the line of my memories. She is missed....

Is the writing any good? Writing should be above ethnicity and gender, no? Only the writing matters.

When an overwhelming majority of publishers are of a certain race and background, it's harder for someone that doesn't fit that mold to break through. Yes, her writing is amazing, but it doesn't mean that she, herself didn't have to overcome challenges to get published.

That was not the case though
Ms Butler had a tendency to be one of her own worst enemies when it came to publishing, and her lifestyle choices. So there’s an element of intended or unintended ‘intellectual dishonesty’ in how she sometimes relates her origin story.

@@Transformers217 Thus the job security of ‘editors’ ….
There are some people who insist on trying to be square pegs in round holes even after it’s been explained to them what is needed.
This is why people who are of the same race and background as the publishing houses have the exact same issues if they take the same tack.

Some women have always been more masculine. Her physical appearance has nothing to do with the "new world".

No, she was a woman. Stop being ignorant.
