I bought the fake ones and the real ones. They are so identical when it comes to everything. So I returned the real ones back to Apple and I am thoroughly enjoying my £40 AirPods. Also the real ones have a white light at the front whereas the fake ones have an orange light.
The easiest way to tell is by looking at the BOX where they spell "AirPods" the "i" on the original one is round at the top and on the fake it's a sqaure tip!

I left the airpods next to my phone for at least an hour and they didnt update, after I checked the box ,case and each airpod and they all had the same serial numbers so yeah I definately got scammed at least next time i would know to buy directly from apple.

These fakes are extremely difficult to identify. The guy at the T-Mobile store even told me how amazing they were for being fakes! He also told me his friend goes to New York buys wholesale fake AirPods from the Asians and he sells them for $70. He told me he pays no more than $15 per box Smh how could anyone sleep at night scamming so many innocent people

Can you see if a listing for your fake Airpods pops up in the About section in Settings underneath the Carrier Lock listing when you open the Airpods case? A YT channel said fakes don’t have Apple iOS, so they don’t pop up in the About page while the real ones do as I have real ones and they do pop up. Just trying to see if any fakes pop up or not.
The question is, why spend $250 on original airpods when you can get pretty much the same quality and features for $20? does it really matter if the fake one has a box with wrong spellings when you are going to toss that box anyway?
What matters is for the people who actually want real AirPods and pay real AirPod prices they don’t wanna get scammed, for people who want to save money and want fake AirPods and are aware of that fact then it’s a totally different story

Lost my 2nd generation. Ordered AirPods 3 for half the price compared to a legit site. They arrived and from pulling the straps to the serial numbers, led light when first opened and the cable they were complete fakes. Even the seller called me to ask why I returned them. Never heard worst sounding headphones than apple ones. It doesnt matter which generation they all sound terrible and leak sound like crazy. Best bet is to avoid and save ur self some money in the proces! Unless you are apple sheep or completely deaf. Both terrible to be frank with exception of apple ones being stupid expensive.

You are right, there are a LOT of $50 earbuds out there that sound better :) Unfortunately those don't have the Apple logo on them so many won't even consider them. This is one of the reasons many buy fake ones... just to show off the fact they have "apple" ones... social status I guess
I disagree. My airpods gen 3 sound on par with my galaxy buds pro and FiiO FH3. The audio quality and comfort together is unbeaten by anything i have tried yet. Apple does many things wrong but definitely not their airpods.

That’s how the serial numbers should be. Can you see the warranty information when they are connected to your phone?
It seems it was owned by someone else. Maybe it’s still linked to his/her iCloud account.
