- In this episode of Hayden's how to's I show you a quick and easy way to remove thru hulls without damaging your hull. A good friend of mine found this idea on the internet and said I should do a video about it, as it didn't seem like a popular idea.

Brilliant advice, I am about to do two this winter, and really didn't want to attack with a hole saw or a grinder!
one of the oldest boat yard tricks... good to show it
That was AMAZING! I have been dreading this part of my next refit - thank you sir.
Nice job on your videos!
That is very interesting. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
not a bad method provived as the last commenter said threaded into the fiberglass otherwise pretty good method.
Great video!
Thanks!
This will work if the through-hull is simply inserted into a hole that is larger than the through-hull. On my boat, the engine intake was "threaded" through the fiberglass and it would not have worked using this method, This method would have damaged the fiberglass of the hull. I had to obtain a step wrench to remove it.
In another example, I had a thru-hull for my speed log and that was simply caulked in place and this method would have worked fine. So, before you try this, check how the through-hull is installed. Unfortunately, it may not be obvious.
If it's threaded simply unscrew it. Clearly this is for a totally different application than yours and your comment is irrelevent.
20 seconds with a propane torch melts 5200 and it will fall out from gravity.
Isn't that more complicated than just a bang with a mallet from the inside? but the same theory works well for removing cutless bearings!
you can damage the hull banging on it with a hammer
@@haydenfoy5723 That is highly unlikely. and if you can damage your hull by banging out the thruhull, you have bigger issues! Just use a razor knife to cut around the sealant uhnder the head of the thruhull and it will come right out with a good whack with a mallet!
Tell ya' what, next time you are pulling your thru-hulls gimme a call and I'll be there with my mallet..... we can video the results and post them on YOUR boat repair channel.....
@@keithgarwick7029 Beat you to it. I've removed 15 from my boat...
