I'm only 7 minutes into this hour-long video and if ANYTHING said after this point is more hilarious than our humble Dan being referred to as "Rizz-Dan" then this is gonna be such a good video.
6:30: Diligent Dan 24:30: I've always wondered how game devs would try to cultivate that kind of attitude in their community. Seems important, but there are plenty of games which either catastrophically failed or never even tried. 42:10: I was hoping that "Rival Presence" meant you'd be pitted against another multiplayer team of some kind...until Dan suggested something better. Rubble and slate! 59:00: As much as the boss likes to insist that we're all dwarves in this together, there's still a divide between the proletariat and the bourgeoise. We're _not_ all dwarves in this together-some of us are dwarves who sit back at HQ, barking orders and sipping _cider_ or something. Like an elf. 3:25: It's nice to see D. Floyd's absolute confidence in his fellow Dans. Possibly unwarranted, but still nice. 6:10: D. Evans has glasses; I assume that makes him the Smart Dan. 11:45: If Dwarf Fortress taught me anything, it's that enthusiasm is a key trait of dwarven culture. Also magma. 17:25: Setting yourself on fire? Good! Being set on fire _by someone else?_ Not fun. 27:50-28:05: ...yeah, D. Evans is Smart Dan by process of elimination. 39:00-20: The important thing is that you learn from your mistakes. Even silly, intentional ones. 55:00: I could also kill some crepes. There used to be a restaurant around here which made, like, meal crepes with meat and cheese and stuff. Shame that it never recovered from that fire. 1:04:20-35: Don't be silly. If it was Uber Drop-pod, then Uber wouldn't own the pod at all. If it gets wrecked on its way out, that's their -employee's- independent contractor's problem.
The poor HQ dwarf, you have any idea how much paperwork he has to do for every incident one of the crews cause? The guy used to be one of the top mercs until he got promoted, now he's a slave to a pen.
I like the fannidwa that Mission Control is a former miner who lived long enough to retire or got injured and had to be "promoted". There's a couple lines during the seasonal assignments where the emotion comes through, he really does care about his teams. But there's only so much he can do, being hamstrung by the system and Management. It's a charitable read, but I also think that bright spotakes the DRG setting even more dystopic and I like that.
_Team Fortress 2_ did a pretty good job cultivating a friendly community (by late-2000s standards, at least) by just having a fun, lighthearted tone. Then they ruined it by leaning too hard into the hardcore competitive scene. (Note to game devs: STOP DOING THAT.)
Oh, there's quite a bit more then that. The dwarves are an entire race of mercinary folks, the strongest, the deadliest, and the only ones to ever survive a contract on Hoxxes. The greenest greenbeard is still the best of the best.
Triple Dans! All my wishes come true! 22:07 I played the heck of Descent! That game was prime LAN party material! Tinkering with the network was half the fun! 22:45 what kind of SU gem would Morkite be?
Also, i played Decent 2 a ton as a kid, its fun chaotic fun. Did get my hands on Decent too, but the one i played a ton was 2. Can still instantly hear the main menu music if i think back on it.
I played Descent and Descent II back in the day! Fun, but incredibly disorienting. But then they slapped the Descent name onto an open-space shooter named Freespace, and I loved that game way more. (I was also big into the X-Wing/TIE Fighter games.)
Yeah, I played Descent a bit but I could never get the hang of it. AND I am subscribed to Dan Jones over at twitch. It's a subscription gifted by a generous soul, but it qualifies: I am subscribed to Dan Jones, and I played Descent.
Proud to say I also played Descent back in the day. It was one of my first PC gaming experiences. Absolutely disorienting but fun once you figured it out.
I have played Decent! The best game for following your friends for a minute then finally letting them know you were there with the "Look out behiiind youuu..." key. :)
It's been so long since Dan or Dan played, and Dan of course is new, so they are seeing stuff and just loving it for the first time. This is so good, and wholesome.
I played Descent decades ago. I think I have the trilogy in my GOG library. Until reading this comment section, I'd never heard of a game called Decent. I'd still like to see a multi-Dan (Carrie optional) Terraria - a bit like Minecraft, but side-on 2D, making it much easier for spectators to follow.
So nice to see y'all playing this! My fiancé and I play this (among other co-op games) together, and it's THE most fun. Even with just the two of us. Hope to see y'all do more of this!
22:19 The name rings a bell somewhere in my memory, but I never played it. One thing that kind of bothers me that the rotary gun gets more accurate as the barrels heat up...
a small bit of fun trivia for the terrain scanner. it is called the mk.3 as during the beta days the map system went through 2 redesigns. and with each change they changed the number.
I am part of Dan Floyd's demographic who has played Descent. One of my favorite game series of all time. Now eagerly awaiting Ships That Fight Underground.
I'd love it if the next session started with all of the Dans playing the multiplayer for Descent. just as a goof. (I did play my cousin's copy of Descent back in the 90's for about 15 minutes. good times.)
The game is Danish and the most common form of honey in Denmark is acacia honey and it flows. It's viscous, but absolutely liquid. It comes in squeeze bottles.
I adore this game and getting to watch you three nutbags finally play it was a true treat. My face hurts cause for the first second I was all smiles. I hope this pops up up again, maybe in a stream. ROCK AND STONE, YOU BE-YOOOOO-TIFUL DANS!!!!!
to my friends i've been saying floyd: dan prime (because that's usually the dan i'm talking about, and it's harder to pick a descriptor and that was the best i could think of) jones: artist dan emmons: desiger dan
I would guess that a goodly number of PlayFrame viewers are also following Errant Signal, and so are aware of _Descent_ through his "Children of Doom" series.
The DRG Classes in a nutshell: Gunner: TF2 Heavy/Soldier with a rope guided chair lift. Scout: Professional mountain goat and revive farm for the rest of team. I'd mention the flare gun but that would require scouts using it. Engineer: TF2 Engie with mandatory Oppenheimer overclock. You can tell how chaotic an engie is by whether the grenade launcher has high velocity and prox detonation equipped. Driller: WAR CRIMES. The natural predator of the scout.
When i used to play a lot of this with my friends, i came up with a game where someone shouts "dice!" Once the last person gets in the drip pod. Everyone has to get as many dice whacks before the pod leaves, but if you don't get into a seat before the pod leaves, you lose your score
Watching green beards at work is both frustrating and incredibly cute. Rock and stone you beautiful dwarves. And develop some reflexes, and use your sidearm, and use the laser pointer, and ….
ROCK AND STONE!!! Been enjoying watching Jones and Emmonds play this, loved seeing Floyd join them as well. Especially glad to see this on the Playframe side now as well. I’d love to see this as a weekly/biweekly/whenever you three can make it happen thing. This is a perfect background game to have y’all just podcast over.
If you don't rock and stone, you ain't comin' home! Also, never played descent, but I have watched the video Errant Signal did on it as part of his "Children of Doom" series.
As a long time DRG player, it's hilarious that Dan starts talking about special minerals RIGHT AS the team is walking past a gold nugget in the wall and none of them grab it or even notice it at all XD.
Emmons, if it's any solace to you, I have heard of Descent and may have at least played a demo of it once. It's been well-established canonically that Dan Floyd is the Leonardo and Dan Jones the Michelangelo of the group. Emmons seems a natural fit as Donatello. So who does that leave as Raphael? It could only be Lee Lee.
I've played Descent, but I was young enough to be really bad at it. I am not sure I ever beat the first level. My older brother on the other hand was pretty good at it. Playing it I always got turned around, but when I watched my brother play, I managed to keep track of where he was for some reason.
I recently replayed Descent and Descent 2, and I'm happy to report that the games hold up. They're certainly not perfect, but still very enjoyable to play.

ROCK AND STONE!
Rock and stone and rock rolling stone everywhere!
Rock and stone!
Floyd is very clearly the band's FrontDan.
I'm only 7 minutes into this hour-long video and if ANYTHING said after this point is more hilarious than our humble Dan being referred to as "Rizz-Dan" then this is gonna be such a good video.
"what Dan am I?" Lol
Existential crisis Dan.
tbh I was also thinking Charismatic Dan or Host Dan.
I really enjoyed this video! I'd love to see any Dans playing more of this sometime.
The Dan’s are back in town ~
(To the tune of “the boys are back in town”)
Let’s hear it for the Dans ~
(To the tune of "Let’s hear it for the boy")
I legit thought Emmons was going to start singing that at the beginning.
Woo, love the Rock and Stone with Dan's

If you're looking for a modern version of Descent, then Overload is definitely the game you want.
X-Wing/TIE Fighter had the best piece of music in all of Star Wars canon.

Dr. McNinja agrees. Setting yourself on fire is a great strat. You can't catch anyone who is on fire.
It's been so long since Dan or Dan played, and Dan of course is new, so they are seeing stuff and just loving it for the first time. This is so good, and wholesome.
The miner's manual has a section that explains all the anomalies. You can also click on them on the map to take you to that screen
Love this game. I'd be super down to see it become a regular series
adding to the "I have played Descent" demographic, I even played it on a mid 90s VR headset "VFX1" for a bit
