If it's not clear in the final cut-despite some of its mod tiers being lopsided, I really appreciate how all of warthog's OCs are at least reasonably good. The mechanical stuff in the video aside, I'd recommend anyone who uses it to try switching to a different OC than they normally use for a change, you pretty much can't go wrong.
And despite how long this took to get out(in my defense, I'm taking computer science classes right now), a whole lot of the struggle was getting this video down to a manageable size. Pretty pleased it wound up under 30 minutes.

I just thought of something you could do to buff the Miner Adjustments mod that doesn't step on the toes of any of the other mods. Give it spread negation when engie moves like Gunner's Deadeye mod for the Bulldog. It would encourage a run and gun engie playstyle who has already taken accuracy mods/OC's.

Wooohooo!!! More LazyMaybe content. Today is the best day.
No real shocks to my system like I've had in some of your other breakdown videos, but some good info and inspiration to try and use the shotgun more.
I'm one of those filthy dwarves that takes turret whip because I know it's super strong, and then only remembers during evac that he can whip his turrets. Gotta get better at that, and using warthog more often rather than the other primaries is the prescription.
Thanks for this series, and know that the whole DRG community appreciates your insight and humour!

I'm a little bit surprised by the fact that you didn't mention the synergy between the Stunner OC and Turret Whip's guaranteed stun. In fact, that's the main reason why I don't take defender system on my turrets, since the extra damage on my shotgun means that it feels like (will probably have to go and run some number tests) I consume a similar amount of turret ammo killing praetorians. If anything, it's usually less, since I often only need 2 turret whip shots along with ~a little bit less than a mag of warthog ammo.
I understand that's actually less ammo efficient in the long run, since defender system giving increased damage doesn't hurt those situations. Not to mention that warthog ammo is more valuable than turret ammo, generally speaking. But I still run it because of it's higher time to kill for praetorians and how defender system really limits where I can position my turrets. Although I do admit the longer range can sometimes be a deficit to my ammo econ, I usually take the ammo upgrade for turrets so that doesn't really matter. I've honestly considered running no T4 on turrets to prevent those long range turret whip situations, I end up keeping it just so I can redirect my turret away from those situations and hope my team understands why I'm pinging the random grunt on the ground for 0.5 seconds before I obliterate it with my turret whip.
Although I will admit, I'll probably try out magnetic turret alignment after this video! I didn't realize that it allows you to one shot slashers! It's ability to do that as well as one shot mactera grunts along with it's accuracy allowing it to more consistently two shot spitters on the ceiling almost makes you into a mini scout. Which is funny, because I exclusively run RJ250 Compound for my Engineer secondary.

For turrets, I like to think of them more as supports than a playstyle. My weakness as a player is seeing distant enemies, and enemies in the darkness - the bane of my existence is something creeping through some Karl-damned arcane geometry I couldn't have conceived and then biting my ankles out of nowhere while I'm retreating from something else.
The Hawkeye system for me isn't about being able to target specific enemies - that's little more than a support bonus when I _do_ see something the team really should focus on. It's about general purpose suppression to pick off those dastardly bugs crawling outside of my range of perception. Engi's weapons are good enough for face-to-face conflicts that I have zero desire to have to micromanage two turrets with limited range of perception and limited effective combat reach just so they can deal with my face-to-face conflicts for me; I would much rather shore up the one thing I'm awful at - paying attention to my surroundings. MK-2 appeals to me for these reasons. The extra turret ammo capacity is also nice on account of my tendency to only remember the Turret exists after it's stopped shooting otherwise.

cant wait for Cryo cannon breakdown from you, I think it would be such as interesting, there so much to talk about this weapon!
especially I want to hear your opinion on Ice Storm 11112 build,
since almost every driller who using cryo - go Mr.Freeze build, and then actually killing bugs with secondary or othe utility
the Ice Storm allows to annihilate every common bug on its own, + you basically become invulnerable from melee attacks while you holding m1 cause Cold Radiance on tier 5 don't get effected by freeze power penalty, which means you still can freeze stuff!
and you have quite good ammo economy for drillers primary (of course if you not going for tier 3 increase flow rate)

    Idea for rebalancing:
Give the warthog 8 base damage
Replace bigger pellets with a small ammo mod
This would make the warthog better early on meaning more people would enjoy using it, armor breaking would actually do something useful, and people who use loaded shells religiously such as myself still get an option for ammo.

Good stuff as usual. You always go all out with the numbers, and despite my love for all forms of mini-ammo, I do agree that minishells is hardly any different from just taking practically any other OC and taking the ammo mod. Mini shells is kind of amusing when you also go full-auto Miner Adjustments, but really, Lightweight Mags does the same thing with an amusingly fast reload speed instead of a bigger mag.

Thanks for the guide. I was a Mini Shells enthusiast cuz I like to be able to spam turret whip and still have plenty ammo to clear packs of grunts myself when moving. Hearing that LW Mags is similar pool and can still one shot more efficiently is a clear winner (wasn’t aware I was missing out on 1 shot potential lol…)

    • @LordTrashcanRulez
      @LordTrashcanRulez 11 месяцев назад

I honestly think they both still have the same level of efficiency in-game. Even with OC-less warthog I still use 2, sometimes even 3 shells on a single grunt because of how the human brain works (you can't expect to land 7-8 pellets on average on a grunt's head, especially on higher hazards), and switching to mini shells from cycle overload didn't change the shots to kill count all that much, except now I don't have to worry about running out of ammo as often as other builds.
Mini Shells is still quite bad at DPS and dealing with larger targets, but the +84 ammo gained allows you to spam turret whip without worrying about your damage all that much. You can go balls out and choose ammo bags for turrets if you're insane.

Mini shells covers a niche which is I can't aim well. I will usually 'never' 1tap a grunt in a face with a dmg build. If I'm off even a little bit I tend to need a second follow-up shot. Even from range this is true, so making each shot do less dmg means aiming poorly is less punishing. The other aspect is dmg from other sources. I'm when playing with other friends rarely are we super seperated. We have dmg flying around from reflecting bullets, to DoT timers, fire going off, etc. Which means bugs are usually partially damaged and not requiring full damage from my shotgun either.
Especially with engineer's double turrets, swarmer nade, Bet-C, and bosco running around even in solo a bug is rarely at full hp.

I never liked the idea of Turret whip (or the other turret centric mods on other guns) because the idea of it just felt kinda janky to me, having to stick around your turret to use it and use your own ammo + more ammo from the turret, I guess. However, I did try it out recently after seeing another video breaking it down and have found that it is quite good. I just wish it was implemented some other way, like different turret types or something.

@@leoritchie9635he trivializes some tough rooms in On-Site Refinery missions by bridging for pipelines. Outside of the QOL his platforms bring for that and your ceiling-mining scouts, he has REALLY solid zone control. His platforms with the repellant upgrade are regarded as 2x the size they really are for enemy pathing, meaning you can completely stop enemies from climbing down the ceiling above you and funnel them off to the sides. Breach cutter has several insane AOE builds. Turrets are turrets.
TL;DR, area manipulation is his thing. A good engie can take a room and manipulate it such that enemies can only approach from a couple of specific directions. He doesn't quite have the highest single-target damage, nor the highest AOE, but outside of a Gunner's bubble shield, he's definitely the strongest to have in a holdout situation.

The shot at 27:24 is just so goddamn satisfying -- showing off the oneshot capabilities on the first two grunts and then the stun on the third, timed with the voiceover, all in one shot. That's some good editing right there.

I was just talking about engineer's primaries today, and I have to say they're all decent, but Warthog is the daily bread that gets it's job done. It's just weird that most engie's secondaries are so much stronger than the primaries, usually it's the other way around.

Well, as lazy said, engie primaries are more like self-defence weapons while his secindaries are the actual damage dealers. Makes sense for me

Turret whip ammo consumption is fixed, so if you run Gemini turrets (even if you use a single turret) you can be more ammo efficient since each turret whip consumes a lower % of your total ammo.

  • @PrincessFelicie
    @PrincessFelicie Год назад +3

Imo the biggest problem with ammo economy warthog is that engi is overloaded with excellent ammo-hungry bug killing options, which means if you make warthog have more ammo than his secondary and his turrets, you lose some ammo efficiency at the _resupply_ step of the process. If you soup up when your secondary and turrets are completely empty but warthog still has some leftover ammo, that's wasted ammo on the warthog that could've been replaced with damage mods, and that gets even worse if you're in circumstances that call for (and allow) double dipping. Ideally, you want all three of your weapons' ammo consumption to just about line up to make the most of your soup pods.

Edit: Doesn't Turret Whip also have innate armor break, or is that just an explosive attribute? Personally I like Hawkeye for the range and for the Pirate-y feeling of precisely aiming a target and launching two green cannonballs of death lol
MPA + Loaded is the only way to one-shot slashers? Otherwise, being able to one-shot grunts at 25m and two-shot at 40m with MPA + Choke seems super ammo and range efficient, if running Fat Boy or Breech Cutter.
    What do you think?
Also, your probability trees were so clean and organized it made me want to do math stuff.

I use Stronger Turret, Defender System, and Quick Deploy on my turret, plop it down, build it, and when it runs out of Ammo/I'm on the other side of the caves and need it again I just recall it. I personally super dislike Turret Whip since I find "Run around and meatshot anything that stands in front of me for long enough to pull the trigger" gets me killed less often than babysitting my turrets since I have horrible tunnel vision problems. Still far from a bad mod, I just prefer the Full Auto fire rate buff to shred down Oppressors / hordes / Praetorians slightly faster. Definitely my favorite gun when I need a bit more fire power than Loki can provide. I'll certainly try out Gemini system some, although I haven't used it much since before my first promotion
Minor Side note: I love how the pellet spread doesn't change when sprinting, and instead it just lands somewhere else, which disregarding Video Game Logic for a bit, really makes sense. If you're running, the barrel of your gun is probably not as steady as it could be, but nothing is changed INSIDE the gun for the pellets to spread out more.

No pressure but your videos are very informative and insightful, which made me reconsider how I used many weapons even after 800 hours of playing drg and breach cutter is something I've never been able to get into, although many say it's great or even amazing to a degree.
