Thanks Mikhail. Your game has given myself and I’m sure lots of others here endless amounts of fun. And I appreciate you watching my video! Rock and Stone!
It has helped connect some of my friend’s friend groups because we all moved to different places. The coop is so fun and accessible that it slowly spread. Now we have weekly game nights with my different friends new buddies from about 4 different states.
My favorite thing about this game is how many player types can enjoy this game. A couple weeks ago, me and a few buddies were talking about games that we could all play together and enjoy. All of us have very different tastes when it comes to games, one of which was mostly into solo games with strong stories. When this game was mentioned, even he said that the game sounded interesting. He's now very addicted to the game xD I've got 300 hours in the game, but getting him up to speed on everything still had me learning new things here and there. This'll be a game I have and will keep coming back to for years to come. If only to suck in more people to enjoy it as much as I do.
My friend just told me about this game and now I've been getting all my other friends to get it. Its amazing how good of a game yall have made and its only 3gbs in space my xbox and I both thank you... I love the flamethrower its perfect for killing bugs who climb on walls 👌
Co-op in DRG is enforced through its mechanics and also its lore: Two of the companies three main slogans are "Dig together or dig your own grave." and "Leave no dwarf behind." Its also implied that the lost teams in the salvage operations died because the company was experimenting with the use of mini-M.U.L.E.s; a smaller mule unit designed for the personal use of one miner, rather than one large mule being shared among a group, theoretically allowing the teams to cover more ground and mine more minerals. But because the teams had no incentive to stick together were swarmed by Glyphids and killed. It's little details like these that help to tell us "If you want to survive, you will stick together and be a team. Not a group."
I think what I appreciate most about DRG is how laid back the community is. My first time playing with randoms, I got lost on the way to the drop pod, got swarmed and downed. I fully expected to get left behind by the other players... now imagine my surprise (and delight) when the driller comes bursting through the cave wall with the gunner behind him to rescue me. It's for that reason I always try to make sure no one gets left behind. I also love how it's an unwritten rule that when you find a chunk of compressed gold, you set it on the ground and let everyone spam "We're rich!" for a while before depositing it.
I'm new as of like last week and I remember a Doretta mission where 3 of us got to the drop ship but the Engineer went down because he was covering our retreat me (driller) and the gunner looked at eachother chanted Rock And Stone! Turned around and went straight back for him even though he typed to leave him.
So thats why a dude was dropping the gold nugget in front of me. I'm fairly new (abt 100 hours) and had no idea, juet deposited the thing. Dude that dropped it shook his head at me, now I understand 😅
The game encourages players to be kind and thoughtful through subtle hints. Messages like "No dwarf left behind" and helping greenbeards. It really pits a common foe against the players and they join up with the cheer. IF YOU DON'T ROCK AND STONE, YOU AIN'T COMING HOME!!
@@TheReturnOfStormheart As others have said, greenbeards are new players. Graybeards, in contrast, are old players. It is rumored that when one begins to feel the desire of helping greenbeards, that is when they know that they are a graybeard.
@@Player-3 Thank you for taking the time to make quality content. This game really is awesome but it barely gets mentioned. I really think this highlights why this game is so good and hopefully it brings more people to play.
7:04 Something that isn't super well known about the heavy snow patches, they actually reduce the amount of fall damage you take when you land in one, similar to the engineers upgraded platforms. This might save your ass once or twice in a pinch, so remember it
Sticky goo does this too, whether from a dreadnought hiveguard's sentinels, from the sacs throughout the Hollow Bough, or spread throughout the Fungus Bogs.
It’s little things like this that actually makes you feel like an on-the-job miner, because only somebody with actual ground experience would know these things. This game is fantastic
I think one of the things that kinds of help that co-op feel is something I've dubbed as "light role play". What I mean by this is that in a sense the game makes you want to be like the dwarfs you play as, that sense of comradely brotherhood as you take on armies together, that lust for shiny ore, that love for alcoholic beverages and that sense of just not listening to those higher ups because you need to behave on the job because you know your the best at it. I don't think many people realise it while playing, but when one of their teammates go down I feel many people don't have that mindset of "I need to do this because my odds are worse without you" and instead they think more along the lines of "Don't worry Brother, I got your back". You feel like a badass dwarf in space who cares for his comrades, gold, beer and fun and want to act like it because it's more fun that playing as your average soldier who's just looking out for his team and his country.
Not to mention the memery from the personalities from the characters themselves. For example as a driller its half expected you will either blow someone up (scout) and or yourself.
I will never stop getting a kick out of muting Mission Control. It has all the same energy as taking out your earpiece while boss is telling you to do something
One big advantage that DRG has over other similar coop games is just how wholesome Dwarfs are. From their rock and stone cheers, to silly dances, to absurd insults when somebody shoots you they're just so sympathetic. And its infectious. On missions you can find compressed gold - chunk of gold that you cash in for a relatively small amount of money, it's practically worthless. But callout for it is som cheerful and happy that players would often gather around it and ping it to hear that "Go-o-old!" and "We're rich!" voicelines.
Don't forget the "Mushroom!" ping The fact that the mushroom doesn't even have any gameplay or resource purpose, and yet the fact that pinging it gives a specific voiceline, the developers gave Central additional dialogue to reflect players spamming it.
Hell, for as vicious as they are in battle, they aren't afraid to admit that the crawly things in hoxxes are adorable, even the glyphids if you tame one. They're like the perfect example of "guys being dudes."
I never knew about project dwarka until now, so only now learning the fact that the “keeping up the tradition” voiceline is a actually a callback to the game’s legacy is so cool
On small details when you run out of ammo for the hurricane and press the reload button there's a funny animation of the gunner waving his fist in anger because has has no more rockets to play airplane with
There’s no other game like DRG and the developers listen to the community and know how to make a game perfect and I love this game so much and I hope the community keeps growing and the developers keep updating this because I will still be playing it. Rock and Stone Brothers!🍺
I cannot emphasize enough of how good the music is in this game. It really pushes the atmosphere of the different biomes. Especially when Mission Control warns you about an incoming swarm and the music organically changes from "unknown dread of a dark alien planet" to " *_LIGHT THEM THE @#$% UP_* " in a matter of seconds. If you are a fan of 80's darksynth like John Carpenter, then you are gonna love the OST.
First few minutes: Ah, on an alien planet full of wonders~ The minute after that: AHHH F@#$ DAMMIT GET THE F@#$ OFF ME DIE AAAAA The next few minutes: Crystals beautifully shimmer in the dark~
Recently I was playing this mining mission with the Haunted Caves mod, the team was Engie, Two scouts (I was one) and a new player gunner. The Ghost Bulk was giving us a lot of headache because it kept downing the engie and the gunner, so it was up to me and the other scout to go find the rest of the objectives. At the end, when we called the dropod, it was literally 30 meters from where we called, however, our engie was still down, on the other side of the cave and all 3 of us had already made it. So I turn around, put my grapple, and start a mad dash towards the engie, blowing dumb bugs in the face all the way, I reach the engie, revive him, then we go all the way back, protecting each other until we got to the dropod. I think this was the most fun I ever had, because this was something that the game thought me "Leave no Dwarf behind".
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 I main Gunner, he's my preferred class. There aren't as many of us but when we appear we will carry the game as the last man alive and revive you with a strategically timed bubble shield.
I remember that one mission I will not forget in a long time. The fun started when we accidently activated both dreadnought and that flower mini boss at the same time. And while having close to no ammo, nor nitra to order a resupply we somehow managed to defeat both while also having the no air modification. And after all of that we called the drop pod, but we lost our dwarf at the way there. So we returned from the drop pod to save him. After dying like 2 or 3 times each we managed to do it. After that we had a nice time getting drunk in the "Abyss" bar. My favorite part about it is that I was playing with randoms. I love that game. Edit: Now that I think about it, I don't really remember if we all made it, but 1 scout for sure did.
Which in itself is a great part of the game. More than once I played a game where we all just went "NO! GO! LEVE! NOW!" when the scout tried to rescuing us and we were just all "nah, man, save the XP". Which is in its own dark way really in line with the game lore. After all, the drop-pod doesn't actually care all that much about you - it doesn't open until the loot's back. :D
One of my most memorable moments in DRG was in my first five hours. I was playing scout (as almost always) and we were heading back to the drop pod. And then, three of us died. We told the last dwarf to leave us, but he refused. And he died too. And as the drop pod fired it’s thruster, the highest ranked player, in the 300s if I remember correctly said “At least HQ got their damned minerals.” That stuck with me, and though I only have 25 hours in DRG, I hope that I’ll be able to provide something similar to others.
Quick update. Season 2 made a slight change to the shop. You can still spend credits on the store like before, but now you can also buy stuff using this purple mineral called "Phazyonite" instead (idk if I spelt it right). If you have enough phazyonite, this practically _eliminates_ having to choose between a weapon upgrade or a new outfit piece.
Bosco is the single player companion I've ever had in a game. Just as the game says, he's clearly not a replacement of another dwarf, but he's competent and intelligent enough to get everything you command him to do very well, plus he's invincible and will rush towards you whenever you go down
To expand on the 'why the co-op works section', DRG is a masterclass in providing incentives for cooperative play. Aside from an ill timed satchel charge, it is almost impossible to grief another player without explicit intent and there's virtually no payoff for hoarding what few resources aren't automatically shared; off the top of my head the ONLY way to take more than your share is to double dip into a supply pod. Almost everything that benefits you requires cooperation between 2 or more team members - for example something as basic as mining a single mineral patch could require light from a Scout's flare to identify it, a pad from the Engineer to provide standing ground for mining and cover fire from the Gunner if there are Glyphids nearby or if the patch is too close to a swarmer nest. All of the Dwarves' unique tools also fulfill a specific need: the Driller can dig tunnels or remove unwanted terrain, the Engineer can create helpful terrain and the Gunner can cross large empty spaces. If the whole team works together, there is virtually no situation that can't be overcome regardless of how badly Mission Control fudges the placement of the return drop pod.
One of the most important features of this game started as a bug. Some weapon paint jobs had a different model attached to the weapon skin, and some players found a way to use different paint jobs on those skins with different models. The devs saw this and decided to make it an official feature by splitting weapon customization into paint jobs and frameworks, which can be mixed and matched however you want.
I was doing a haz five mission while playing scout, we did the whole mission fine, but when it came to going to the drop pod we were all trapped in a huge cave with the only way out being a small hole at the top of the ceiling. We were being overrun at this point and everyone new there was only one way we could complete the mission. Everyone iron willed to get me up as fast as possible and sent me on my way to get to the drop pod alone. I almost died multiple times but ended up getting the drop pod with five seconds left. Moments like these is why drg is such a great game.
This final montage was a masterpiece, especially the moment in the memorial hall. Well played, I have 500+ hours of game on my belt but you somehow convinced me to get the game again.
I got this game last week and on one of my first missions i was with some more experienced players. I assume I used too much of our ammo because we ran out too quick, and then had to spend the next 40 minutes running from a huge boss, reviving each other, hitting it with pick axes, and repeating this. Nobody thought we would make it but nobody gave up and we eventually killed it. Went back to the bar and had my first beer and dance. 10/10 first day on the game.
Exemplary work, miner. Management salutes you for this effort. Rock and Stone! On an additional note; this is another reason why the game is so charming. The personality of Central, the shared hatred of elves, the memes the community partakes in, the little quips the dwarves have, it's all phenomenal!
I never though another game, a co-op to be specific, could match *that* thing L4D2 has. We all know what, that magic that makes it so special. But DRG manage to, not only recreate it but even use it at will, and I really hope this game keeps getting more and more big, even manage to achieve that goal of a full decade of being played just like other games did, like TF2 and such. *Rock and Stone, lads*
I'm gonna be a party pooper and say that I never understood the hype around L4D2. Me and pals played L4D1, then 2 because Valve killed the first one, and then just dropped it once we've done all the missions. Had no reason to go back to it afterwards. Meanwhile, DRG had tons of red flags I'd typically avoid (early access, low-poly aesthetics, "mining", ...), but it not only won me and everyone else over instantly, but is still THE party night game we automatically jump into, after 3+ long years.
@@GugureSux Well, L4D2 did not have procedurraly generated maps.... so yeah - it's fun for first two-three years, till you master COOP part on realism and move on... to the DRG.
I'm gonna be even more of a party pooper and say that while L4D was a fine game, Vermintide, and especially Vermintide 2 blew it out of the water in terms of being fun and challenging. After years of seeing different people refining the formula, L4D feels very stale, and while I respect it, new iterations of the formula easily surpass the originator, as it should be
Another way this game enforces co-op is not only do some enemies have the ability to grab players, but most enemies in general have very smart path finding and will try to flank or surround you a lot, which means you have to cover your teammates often, on top of working together to take down the tankier ones. Also The game’s voicelines are super hilarious. And the environments look really cool.
This is a game that gets better and better over time. I can't wait to see what season 3 brings. The fact that players INSIST on bringing Doretta back on every mission despite getting NOTHING for doing it says everything about this game. It really is amazing how it makes players feel like they are part of a team. LEAVE NO DWARF BEHIND! ROCK AND STONE!
Im seeing a ton of green beards lately, and it’s a glad thing to see, always trying to help those new ones, I even encounter a group that didn’t knew how to “rock n stone “ . Definitely a gem of a game
As of Season 5, you can now replay previous seasons (with progress saved if you didn't finish one beforehand) and some of the cosmetics got moved back to their perspective seasons. And again, *it's free.*
I've watched this through a few times now. I love DRG content. But I think this is the single best all-encompassing DRG Video I've watched. The editing, the writing, the shots you've gotten from in -game, the cave angel metaphor, and ending on the DRG Shanty... The production levels are fantastic, and it's easy to see how much Love and effort went into this video. You've more than earnt my sub. Rock and Stone, Miner. Edit: posted to the DRG subreddit to get this vid some more love!
Thanks, I appreciate the extra views! And I really put a ton of work into this so I'm glad you liked it. I'm also honestly so proud of the cave angle metaphor haha. Rock and Stone!
I just recently started playing this on the playstation 5 because a friend asked me to join him, I figured sure its only 2,5 gb (which seems insane to me given how much content there actually is and how well the game runs and loads) and I immediately got hooked, had it free from PS plus so I figured, hey I'll buy the supporter pack to show my appreciation and get some cool cosmetic goodies. I have since played it almost every day and am always stoked to hop back in. Rock and stone miners! For Karl!
I think the class system in this game works so well because they all feel necessary, like you said, but not absolutely required. You CAN go without each of them, it doesn't prevent you from getting the mission done, but having each class makes the missions go so much smoother that it's preferred to have one of each. This also shows how fun each class is by themselves, even if you prefer one specific class. Gunner is awesome, he's the dude you want to have around during bad situations. He has big, super satisfying guns, and he can put out a shield for emergencies, which is possibly the most op gadget out of all the classes because of it's overwhelming usefulness in panic-inducing situations. Driller is great because you're underground, and he is designed for destructing and making changes to the environment as is needed. His weapons are more focused for dot or aoe damage rather than direct damage, and he has many modifications for his weapons that can provide debuffs for the enemies to support your team. Engineer is fantastic because he can create places to walk, can provide 2 (or 1) extra gunners with his turrets, and I think he overall has the most balanced utility of all the classes. Scout is my favorite because he can jump in and out of combat at a moments notice, he can reach minerals out of reach very quickly, he can provide a clear view of the enemies, which isn't entirely necessary, but is an absolute blessing when you need it, and in extreme situations, he can kite big enemies away from the team, quickly jump to a teammate for a revive, or when he needs to rez the whole party in extreme situations. They all do things differently, but they're so well balanced that it doesn't take away from the experience by mixing it up and not using some of the classes.
100% this, and every combination feels different. I primarily play with one friend, and a big part of what got us so into the game was trying different class/build combos. Even with just two players and almost nothing unlocked, we had a nearly endless variety of different role dynamics and play styles
It's an amazing balance where you don't need each class, but you're encouraged to use them because they synergise with each other like engineers platforms and scouts grapple
This has to be without a doubt the greatest, and most well edited video about drg I've ever watched. The only thing I think you missed was that the cosmetics in the season trees get put into the store and the loot crate/lost equipment system when the season is over But seriously this video goes above and beyond to portray just how it feels to play drg and how much the devs care about the game and its community. Rock and stone!
I have 1000+ hrs playing this game since 2019, (level 800-something). I have done/acquired literally everything in this game, but still play it regularly (mainly for the weekly elite deep dives). This was also the best review of the game that I've seen so far, so much good and pertinent info in under 30 min. Can't really think of anything important that was left out. I also never knew about "hammer time" before watching this video. RnS!
this is what makes the game truly amazing to me. Even after all the hours, a simple thing such as hammer time is new to me and I just love the details.
I've come back to this review a couple times just for the montage alone. The transition from the gunner to the zipline at 26:36 is smooth af. Rock and stone!
@@Player-3 Posted it on Reddit (ofc I credited you) and people absolutely LOVED it, so I was wondering if I could upload it to RUclips for people to see. (Maybe just do it yourself, here’s another idea)
Okay for real I hope this gets more attention. You have such a cool editing style. Obviously the outro was really well made, but this video was really well structured and put together.
Recently picked up the game to play with my brothers, and am blown away by the sheer detail, charm, and passion this game and its developers have. Not to mention the wholesome playerbase, it's easily one of the best video games I have ever played. The mindboggling part to me is that I only paid 12 (Canadian) DOLLARS for the game on sale! Even at $35 regular, this game is a complete steal at that price. Literally hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay. ROCK AND STONE! ⛏️
I didn't even find this game on RUclips, but I love watching all these review videos because of how wholesome it always is. I don't think I've seen one person make a review on this game and mention a thing in the game that they don't like, and I think that says a lot. Rock and stone!!
I think you perfectly encapsulated and presented everything that is absolutely amazing about this game. Watching this video made me want to play it after playing all day. The editing, script, and visuals were awesome, you deserve a lot more subscribers then you have. The only nitpick I could have with this video is one I have with basically every review. One of my favorite things about this game is how it's a FPS but inclusive for aim gods or people that can't aim to save their life. You're a csgo player with 10k hours and perfect aim? Use the M1K or AI stability engine GK2 and snipe every bug's head! You can't aim for crap? Play driller or gunner and just shred swarms without aiming! I absolutely love the all inclusive nature this game has as an FPS, it's stellar.
Absolutely, that's something I should have mentioned! I play with my girlfriend a lot and she loves Engineers smart rifle because she has terrible aim!
After watching the video, it's quality tells me how much work you've put in to it and how much you enjoy the game. Thank you for making such a comprehensive review. As a recently new player, this video has helped me out a bunch!
Finally a DRG enthusiast who can describe the game the way it was intended to be described as. Driller Main here and i have to say that actually this is the best COOP game i have ever played in my entire gaming "career",like even the fact that you have an actual lobby hub ingame instead of a casual screen infront of you. Then the classes, their weapons, combos, builds and such are the second-to-best stuff And lastly, the way that everyone is playing and interacting with each and everyone is just pure gold...
Engie main here, I once joined a lobby of 3 other engies and we pretty much formed a firing squad for the dreadnoughts we fought on that elimination mission
also the fact that the lobby changes like random union free beer days or random posters of weapons you can get hung up in the dwarves quarters or even the chinese takeout boxes just makes the world feel so lived in like if you were to turn off the game the world would still go on as normal
I remember playing this game around when it was coming out of early access, and getting bored after around 10 hours or so, even while playing with 3 other friends the whole time. This video is so well made that it makes me want to come back, and it seems there have been quite a few updates as well
I've been playing SINCE the game was still in Early Access, and I really couldn't fathom calling DRG "boring". Currrently clocking 1500 hours, and still diving into Hoxxes every other evening.
Some friends introduced me to this game and we play regularly and I'm glad they did, this game is amazing! Not only is it a unique idea this game has what very few games have: a dev team who actually cares about making a good game. Great video, when I try to get more friends to play this game it'll be this vid to convince them. Rock and Stone to the bone!
This video is absolutely amazing holy sh--. You really deserve more attention! And as for that comment on everyone liking classes evenly: people seem to really hate Scouts and praise Driller as the god above all despite one being amazing at reviving and the other always killing other dwarves. xD
Thank you! As a Gunner main I feel like they're both chaotic. Drillers are crazy overall and Scouts seem to always be the ones who need reviving since they're always falling from high spots haha!
@@BlissBatch you think we have the time for that? You DO realize that scoots aren't meant for fighting swarms, right? Besides, everyone plays differently, I personally don't count non-flare using scoots as scoots
Incredible video for an incredible game. I’ll be using this to convince anyone to buy this flawless game. Thank you for putting in all this effort to show the DRG in it’s full glory! ROCK AND STONE!
There is an anti gravity effect to the Scouts grappling gun, that is how firing it into the ground while falling will slow you down and save you. They can't put a machine inside a grappling gun that is strong enough for a fully kitted out dwarf to still grasp in one hand and get instantly get yanked in any direction in a straight line, their grip on the gun would give out or it would rip their shoulder out of socket. So... as soon as the grappling gun is activated the anti gravity effect also activates and the dwarf is easily moved by the grappling gun when it retracts the cable. And thus... the anti gravity effect also arrests a fall, even if the hook is fired into the ground.
You pointed out many things about the psychology behind the game design and its community that I'd like to mention if I ever do an essay like this one. There are messages, quotes and concepts in-game (e.g: "leave no dwarf behind") encouraging miners to cooperate. As you know, the missions will end succesfully if at least one dwarf make it to the drop pod. In the report, the fallen players will gain all the XP and gathered minerals, with the only exception of lacking survival bonus. This means that even if the game "told" you to help the others, It doesn't penalize too much (nor the survivors, nor those who were left) if you don't follow that rule. And HERE is the interesting part: regardless all said above, most players try to save their comrades. Sure, a whole team active will be better than struggling with a swarm with one, two or three dwarves down. But sometimes on the way to drop pod, or litterally next to it when it's already open and ready to go, miners will attempt to help, even if that put the mission on risk. The greenbeards are not considered noobs in a despective way, but just new players that are learning, and many greybeards enjoy teaching them as the mission goes. The "worst" thing rookies could be told is "you are not ready for this hazard level. Learn and practice in a lower one and then try again" as a constructive advice. Something I wonder myself is why losing a mission doesn't usually trigger ideas like "it was this guy's fault", considering that it's a common practice, mostly when playing with random people (although there are situations in which an individual mistake can truly lead the whole team to death). I think that, besides all the mechanics that reinforce the idea of cooperation and not being mean with those who make a simple mistake, it has to do with the fact that DRG is a PvE. When the game is the one placing random but tough and bullshit variables together to take the team down, is easier to blame IT, than blaming other players. The result is a group of dwarves in infirmary saluting each other, as if nothing happened. I could be hours talking about this, but it would turn out in a wall of text. Thing is that those in-game behaviour rules gave birth to a specific mindset in the community, which feeds back with memes, rituals (we're rich!) and ideas implemented later by devs (Doretta's head); all with a chill and wholesome mood that kinda regulates itself. Sure there are toxic people out there, but they're not the majority, fortunately. I have a great time playing with randoms all over the world, sometimes communicating just with the scanner pointer and a simple "r" before starting some event (and many "rock & stone", of course). Great video!
I'm always happy to buy whatever cosmetic pack comes out because they've done such a great job with the game and keep coming out with new stuff for it. I'm watching your video 5 months after it released, and it's already noticeably out of date. That just goes to show you how much love this game regularly gets. Rock and Stone!
They add things to the game to make it better, not to get more money. This is a project of love and passion. So yeah, I agree 100%. I normally didn't buy cosmetic pack, but I do for that game, because they deserve having that money.
This is such a great video! Awesome editing, entertaining, and you make your argument really well. I just sent this to some friends who I have continually failed to convince to play this game with me. I'll just echo what everyone else has said and say this deserves way more views and you deserve way more subscribers, so I hope both come to you soon!
19:30 One thing that I've noticed, is a guy in a lobby by himself is typically left that way. Most people that join a game late want to join a game that has 2+ people. So they most likely joined because you joined.
One thing I thought you'd mention in one of the sections is DRG's other motto/cheer: *No Dwarf Left Behind!* Like Rock and Stone, it's just a phrase that they added to give more character to the dwarves and DRG the company, but you wouldn't believe how many times both me or some other dwarf noticed one of our teammates were downed on our mad dash to the drop pod a hundred meters away with only a minute and a half left, then immediately turn around and run for them. Like you said, there's no punishment for a dwarf not making it back to the drop pod, but when they say "No Dwarf Left Behind", *they mean "No Dwarf Left Behind"* That, and Karl. The Legend of Karl is one that could only be told in a beautiful video like yours. Rock and Stone!
I got this game a few days ago and have been playing the shit out of it and I love it, I just wanted to add that it felt a lot like payday with the build creation and the teamwork and the fact you get swarms/raids while you are doing the goal
The whole video is awesome - I've used it as an introductory/recruitment material to send to some of my friends after I got into DRG and wanted more people to hop on board. The end montage however is something else - absolute mastery! Rock and Stone, brother!
Thank you for at least touching on the Single Player aspect. Last time I tried to solo a co-op game was Payday 2, and it was a frustrating experience. I will most-definitely try DRG now.
Hey Player 3. I loved your point on enforced coop. It's something that many players don't value enough. My friends would rather play Borderlands 3 or Vermintide rather than this masterpiece. But that's alright I guess. :')
I just started playing this game yesterday with two friends as we‘re waiting for the Overwatch 2 release. I‘m very pleasantly surprised and especially this point about enforced coop is so true. In our first game I drilled us to the drop pod and even when one guy said that he‘ll go to bed now we still just explored the hub for at least 20 minutes and laughed at the dances and the beer. I‘m thrilled to play it again today
and even though it may be "enforced" it certainly doesnt feel like it. it all feels fun and rewarding. yeah leechs are annoying but premptivly killing them and saving someone from them feels so goood. and the fact that traversal tools all synergize with each other *chefs kiss.* as a scout i usually drop everything to go revive if someone goes down and i wouldnt have it any other way.
Every pvp fps are literally about spawning, killing other players, getting killed... Rinse and repeat. That didn't stop people to buy (sometime for insane price) and play thousands of hours. Doing the same thing over and over didn't mean it is boring. Your friend should open his mind a little bit.
You forgot to mention another huge aspect (half of why I still play this game long after I've seen everything there is to be seen after 700 hours) -- which is the built-in mod support. It's so streamlined and also enforced in terms of balance. There's 3 kinds of mods: Verified, Approved, and Sandbox. Verified are client-sided changes like gun skins and sounds, which no one will even know you are using if you're hosting. Approved are gameplay-altering mods which random players joining your game will be notified about before they choose to join, which are usually not too significant in impact to overall gameplay. And sandbox mods are outright, y'know, cheat mods that your normal save file won't be allowed to run in, but instead you'll use a separate save file. And all this is done and curated all within the game, which you can browse and install literally within the game, while the game is open and will just require you to be alone in the lobby, and seconds to install.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm very glad you enjoy our game so much. Rock and Stone!
He's now very addicted to the game xD
I've got 300 hours in the game, but getting him up to speed on everything still had me learning new things here and there. This'll be a game I have and will keep coming back to for years to come. If only to suck in more people to enjoy it as much as I do.
I'll be downloading it as soon as I'm out of the hospital! This is exactly how games should be made! The robot head being rescued part sold me.
My friend just told me about this game and now I've been getting all my other friends to get it. Its amazing how good of a game yall have made and its only 3gbs in space my xbox and I both thank you... I love the flamethrower its perfect for killing bugs who climb on walls 👌
The fact that the community wanted the ability to somehow save Doretta and the devs listened should tell you a lot about this game.
More importantly, no FOMO to speak of
They also patched out a bug (The smol meteors in Plaguefall), then reintroduced said bug as a feature because the community wanted them back.
Deadlifts for DRG
DRG devs solo all other devs
@@Brandelwyn you here from ´Darktide annoyment too?
Never even thought about that mini-mule thing. As they say, “every safety rule is written in blood”
oh wow, I never thought of it like that
Does my boy Karl play a part in that. You know "FOR KARL".
Not even that, toxicity is also killed via the dwarves speaking ingame. It's hard to be a jerk when your dwarf is thanking another player and whatnot.
Oh shit I never thought about it that way that makes a lot of sense.
We're Rich!
No dwarf left behind!!

Pick up line for you to take home:
"You are the engie's platform to my scout's grappling hook."
Well said
Not to mention the memery from the personalities from the characters themselves. For example as a driller its half expected you will either blow someone up (scout) and or yourself.
mushroom
I will never stop getting a kick out of muting Mission Control. It has all the same energy as taking out your earpiece while boss is telling you to do something
@@jeepersmcgee3466 You can mute mission control?
One big advantage that DRG has over other similar coop games is just how wholesome Dwarfs are. From their rock and stone cheers, to silly dances, to absurd insults when somebody shoots you they're just so sympathetic. And its infectious. On missions you can find compressed gold - chunk of gold that you cash in for a relatively small amount of money, it's practically worthless. But callout for it is som cheerful and happy that players would often gather around it and ping it to hear that "Go-o-old!" and "We're rich!" voicelines.
Don't forget the "Mushroom!" ping
The fact that the mushroom doesn't even have any gameplay or resource purpose, and yet the fact that pinging it gives a specific voiceline, the developers gave Central additional dialogue to reflect players spamming it.
Hell, for as vicious as they are in battle, they aren't afraid to admit that the crawly things in hoxxes are adorable, even the glyphids if you tame one.
They're like the perfect example of "guys being dudes."

Every aspect of DRG deserves a 11/10 rating, not just the music!
First few minutes: Ah, on an alien planet full of wonders~
The minute after that: AHHH F@#$ DAMMIT GET THE F@#$ OFF ME DIE AAAAA
The next few minutes: Crystals beautifully shimmer in the dark~
Why is it that you almost never run into a veteran gunner in this game.
Yah, the Unknown Horror is a bitch
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 Because most people who would be Veteran gunner have chosen another main instead

It’s even better now. Get it now! ROCK AND STONE!
Karl would be proud.
This video is incredible, i'm gonna show this to everyone who's on the fence about this game!
ROCK AND STONE!
Hey thanks a lot!! Rock and Stone miner!
Pants mineral here!
I bought drg a few days ago and when i was in the shop, i thought you needed to use credits AND phazyonite but it turnd out you only need one of them
Bosco is the single player companion I've ever had in a game.
This just makes me want to play more DRG.
Rock and Stone!
literally tho, it's midnight for me while I'm watching this and now I'm getting on deep rock to play some
Same here, I’m definitely just gonna jump back in and look for some friends to play with
ROCK. AND. STONE!
Stop shooting at me you pointy eared leaf lover!
I mean they gave the dwarves a smart pistol
After years of seeing different people refining the formula, L4D feels very stale, and while I respect it, new iterations of the formula easily surpass the originator, as it should be
TF2 is still my go-to when I'm not sure what to play. It's never not fun

Management - and I - salute you. Damn fine work, miner. Rock and Stone!
I couldn't not read this is mission controls voice haha. Thanks!
Dig Together, or Dig Your Own Grave. But, if you Rock and Stone, You're Never Alone!
Alright you sold it. Time for me to strap in and go deep. For Rock and Stone
The intro was enough for me to start playing this game.
The only thing I think you missed was that the cosmetics in the season trees get put into the store and the loot crate/lost equipment system when the season is over
But seriously this video goes above and beyond to portray just how it feels to play drg and how much the devs care about the game and its community.

RnS!
ah, then it sounds like you have one more thing to "hammer" out ;)
this is what makes the game truly amazing to me. Even after all the hours, a simple thing such as hammer time is new to me and I just love the details.

I absolutely love the all inclusive nature this game has as an FPS, it's stellar.
never even noticed that, nice 👍
Absolutely, that's something I should have mentioned! I play with my girlfriend a lot and she loves Engineers smart rifle because she has terrible aim!
I almost never play shooters and suck at aiming on both controller and mouse, so this is nice to hear
Yeah, I think the Eggman engineer is the one everyone does as soon as they get access to the goggles and the funny moustache. It just... fits
The acknowledgement phrase is so engraved in the minds of my game teammates that when we suggest playing, we say: "Wanna play rockenstone?"
I've only just started to play this [Rookie miner] and it's an incredibly game so far, the engineer has to be my favourite atm.
I've been playing since the Gunner had satchel charges and I had no idea about the Hammer Time easter egg.
After watching the video, it's quality tells me how much work you've put in to it and how much you enjoy the game. Thank you for making such a comprehensive review. As a recently new player, this video has helped me out a bunch!
Thanks for watching and for the comment man, it for sure took a while to make. Good luck in the mines brother!
Finally a DRG enthusiast who can describe the game the way it was intended to be described as.
Driller Main here and i have to say that actually this is the best COOP game i have ever played in my entire gaming "career",like even the fact that you have an actual lobby hub ingame instead of a casual screen infront of you.
Then the classes, their weapons, combos, builds and such are the second-to-best stuff
And lastly, the way that everyone is playing and interacting with each and everyone is just pure gold...
I’m in the same boat, I come back to it every couple months, get addicted, grind tf out of it, and then stop for a bit.
I only dislike Scouts who don't put flares up, even after you ask them nicely. A Scout that does their job correctly is a blessing upon any team.
@@BlissBatch as a scoot main, flares are reserves solely for large caverns due to their potency and limited amount
@@DepressedCrow Yes. I'm talking about when we're being swarmed in a large cavern, and they still won't use flares. What are they saving them for‽
@@BlissBatch you think we have the time for that? You DO realize that scoots aren't meant for fighting swarms, right?
Besides, everyone plays differently, I personally don't count non-flare using scoots as scoots
Just started the game last night and absolutely love it.
For Rock and Stone...Forever ❤
IDK, the last time is said "What's this", I got attacked by a Core Stone monster.
couldn't have said it better myself. ROCK AND STONE
Incredible video for an incredible game. I’ll be using this to convince anyone to buy this flawless game.
Thank you for putting in all this effort to show the DRG in it’s full glory!
ROCK AND STONE!
Thanks man! I tried to cover pretty much everything in the game and I think I got most of it. Rock and Stone brother!
A perfectly crafted masterpiece. Truly one of a kind. For Rock & Stone!
Great video, brother! Saw your meme on the reddit and followed it to here, Rock and Stone!
Thanks man, the meme worked surprisingly well to get people to watch my video haha! Rock and Stone brother!
19:30 One thing that I've noticed, is a guy in a lobby by himself is typically left that way. Most people that join a game late want to join a game that has 2+ people. So they most likely joined because you joined.
Man this looks like the game I've been looking for! I love skill trees, dwarves, digging, and shooting!
One thing I thought you'd mention in one of the sections is DRG's other motto/cheer: *No Dwarf Left Behind!*
Like Rock and Stone, it's just a phrase that they added to give more character to the dwarves and DRG the company, but you wouldn't believe how many times both me or some other dwarf noticed one of our teammates were downed on our mad dash to the drop pod a hundred meters away with only a minute and a half left, then immediately turn around and run for them. Like you said, there's no punishment for a dwarf not making it back to the drop pod, but when they say "No Dwarf Left Behind", *they mean "No Dwarf Left Behind"*
That, and Karl. The Legend of Karl is one that could only be told in a beautiful video like yours. Rock and Stone!
Rock and stone brother
Rock and stone brother
I got this game a few days ago and have been playing the shit out of it and I love it, I just wanted to add that it felt a lot like payday with the build creation and the teamwork and the fact you get swarms/raids while you are doing the goal
Rock and Stone brother! 💎⛏️
I‘m thrilled to play it again today
and even though it may be "enforced" it certainly doesnt feel like it. it all feels fun and rewarding. yeah leechs are annoying but premptivly killing them and saving someone from them feels so goood. and the fact that traversal tools all synergize with each other *chefs kiss.* as a scout i usually drop everything to go revive if someone goes down and i wouldnt have it any other way.
bruh my only friend i can play with be like "iT jUsT rEpEaTs EvErY MiSsIoN" Like i dont care im gonna play it
Every pvp fps are literally about spawning, killing other players, getting killed...
Rinse and repeat.
That didn't stop people to buy (sometime for insane price) and play thousands of hours.
Doing the same thing over and over didn't mean it is boring.
Your friend should open his mind a little bit.
FOR ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS 😠🤝😠
Rock and Stone, Steel and Bone. Back to the drop pod to get us all home.
Its funny how friendly the community is when the dwarves say shit like "COME BACK HERE YOU BASTARDS!"
0:02 the real reason to play the game
He be lookin THICC
this is the best clear, informative and fun overview of deep rock galactic you can watch to get into the dephts as a new miner. great job!
I like the Unrailed music in the back, fits perfectly
Just installed! Certified Green-beard. Rock and Stone, Brother.
“Yes yes, you love deep rock, but I got corporate breathing down my neck, get back to work miners!”
I just started playing drg and dragged one of my buddies into it, needles to say I love this game and it’s community.
Rocks and stones brothers!
Im going to download deep rock galactic tomorrow, can’t Wait to play it with my friend!!!!!
Of all of the drg essays I’ve seen, this one covers the most content, great job 👍Rock and Stone!
Just learned about this game today. watched this video. Will buy it and convince some friends to as well. I'm excited.
