His first shot, a 2-iron, goes 105 yards, his second from about 350 yards flies 155 yards (with a 5-iron) and he holes out from 195 yards with an 8-iron. Strangest birdie of all time.
What makes this scene so brilliant is that all of us have had our own sport's fantasies. He's being the Everyman who sees himself making the big TD pass or run, or hitting the big home run. Of course we never tore up the club's flora while we did it.
Whats so brilliant about Carl is even though he's living a low income life he's still able to dream and have fun and it says something sweet that we should all live the same way
Yeah Harold the director told him "have you ever imagined yourself playingba game and you're narrating-" and Bill Murray cut him off "Say no more" and filmed this scene
I think this scene is the real reason I suck at golf. Every time I select a club I start playing this scene in my head. It's pretty hard to swing properly when your whole body is shaking with laughter.
He's got about ......350 yards left, he's gonna hit about a 5 iron, don't ya think? He's gotta beautiful backswing....that's, Oh! He got all of that one!
Michael O'Keefe (who played Danny) was walking by the set when this scene was about to be filmed and the director pulled him aside and just said "watch this."
@@markmerzweiler909The implication is that Ramis didn't need to know exactly what Murray was going to do. He knew it was Murray, that it was improvised, and that Murray is a genius that does his best work completely improvised. That's all he needed to know to tell someone "watch this".
I must thank Bill Murrey for this whole sequence, because I muttered it softly when forced to watch golf every easter with my great-uncles. They finally stopped making me "sit and chat with them" during the golf game.
It does not matter what iron or how far from the hole,,, the whole skit was done spontaneously, nothing was on the script but greens keeper chops up flowers with a swing blade, Total Brilliance,,, of it's time ... anyone under 30 won't understand comedic genius of this movie...
I think what makes this movie such a classic to all of Us over 30 is not just the fact that every scene is just CLASSIC.. But for most of Us there was a certain group of friends we watched this movie with non stop and laffed like we were all watching it for the 1st time... Everyone GOT IT... And everyone had these lines memorized because of how many times we all watched it... And it will always bring Us bck to that time and place every time we see or hear these classic lines.. Personally for me...Living & playing hockey with the funniest bunch of maniacs in an Old house in Boston.. Hockey equipment hanging everywhere, pizza boxes & kegs AND 1 of 3 movies playing at all times.. Caddy Shack, The Blues Brothers and Slap Shot... Everytime I watch these movies.. It brings me rght bck to that time and place...Anyone who doesn't think this movie is classic.. I feel bad for Ya.. I really Do!!!
Every time I crush a long shot, straight and where I aimed it to go, I say "He got all of that one!!" My friends just just laugh and say nice shot Carl.
brilliantly sloppy perhaps. he said "cinderella story" like 5X. you must be easily impressed friend. but still, adequately redeemable. just not "fucking brilliant" by a longshot.
Yes, Bill Murray improvised the Cinderella story scene. But give writer Director Harold Ramis some credit. Though there were no written lines, when Murray asked what he was looking for Ramis told him that when he runs ( he was an avid runner ) he would fantasize about winning a gold medal at the Olympics. Supposedly Murray looked at him and said “got it!” The rest is cinematic history.
Awesome review thanks for sharing all your thoughts an the entire video I kept on thinking who your voice reminded me of..in a good way if course..then I figured it out I think you could do an excellent impression of Bill Murray in Caddyshack Cinderella Story thanks buddy!
Every time I'm watching or listening to something and I hear someone say 'Cinderella story' I think of this scene and come to RUclips to find it. That just happened today. Like 5 minutes ago. XD
There's probably at least 3 or 4 movies that Bill Murray could have been Oscar-nominated for prior to his first one for Lost in Translation. Caddyshack is most definitely one of those films! lol
Didn't watch this masterpiece until yesterday and this one was hilarious..😁. Have learned that he improvised this but actually that makes sense. To be able to be that frivolous I think u almost have to improvise.

🤣 I know 🤣 and he's a caddy giving people yardages hope he isn't recommending what club to hit 🤣
I should correct myself he "was" a caddy but is currently a greens keeper in this instance.
He also knew that the third would be the final shot
Like he says it's a miracle
It’s even funnier when he says the Crows is just on its feet here. Thats because there’s no seating at Augusta
"Certainly your eminency. Certainly your magnificence" lol. I use this at work all the time
Doctor Cornelius. Fix my hole. At once. At this instant.
You’re really onto something.. fair dinkum genius
He was just on such an incredible level for this

The announcer at the 2019 Masters just called Tiger Woods win a "Cinderella Story". All I could think of was this. "Tears in his eyes I guess"
Best anti-depressant ever, when I feel down, I check this.

Yeap, he has that going for him

"standing on it's feet here at Augusta" that humor of the crowd at a golf course standing was lost on me until now. Hahahahaha
“The normally reserved Augusta crowd, going wild for this young Cinderella who’s come out of nowhere…” 😁
The grounds keeper chopping up flowers. Brilliant.
Best part, this entire scene was improvised!
The reason so much of the film was improv was because they were all whacked out on drugs, so there was no point trying to memorize lines.
The normally reserved Augusta crowd going wild
For Tiger Woods 2019
"Tears in his eyes, I guess."
I read somewhere that Murray totally improvised these "Cinderella" lines. That's impressive!
A lot of the movie was improvised. The scene at Ty’s apartment was totally improv
Yeah Harold the director told him "have you ever imagined yourself playingba game and you're narrating-" and Bill Murray cut him off "Say no more" and filmed this scene
Apparently, Carl was supposed to be a silent character in the original script, but Ramis encouraged Murray to improvise his scenes and add dialogue.
I love you dad. I miss you. Our favorite scene in cinema.
Tears in his eyes, I guess.
