@Dustin F so, assuming you currently have an Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Live Gold Subscription, you need to login to your Microsoft or Outlook account. Then under 'Services and Subscriptions' click the 'Manage' option followed by 'Turn off recurring billing'. This should reset your settings for your profile and fix the issue once you attempt to log in again. After this you can turn the recurring billing on back again. Hope this helps.
This just happened to me in 2024 and this solution worked! It was the opposite for me though. My Recurring subscription was already on. So I turned it off. And it worked immediately and signed in on the very next try. Thanks for the video!
As of April 2022 if anyone else is having this issue this has worked for me now as well as was having the same issue where i couldn't sign in. Tried everything else possible and had no luck.. Came across this video and followed the steps and sure and behold it worked.. I went to storage on the Xbox 360 and deleted the cache files in system. I then opened a web browser on my PC and logged into xbox live through it. Up at the top where it shows your gamertag and profile pic click on it and go to My Microsoft account. Under subscriptions click on Manage under Xbox Live or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and go down to Turn off recurring billing. You can turn it off and then turn it back on as you won't be charged until your previous month is due to end. Once that was done i just disconnected my 360 from the internet and reconnected it and tried to sign back in and it worked. Massive thanks to Noneyya for uploading this...

Thank you!!!! Was on the phone with ms for 2 hrs and they couldn’t solve it. This oddly worked. All I did was log into my xbox account on my phone and enable auto renewal and added my payment method back in. Fired up the 360 and BAM! I was able to download my profile this time :-)
Xbox support told me to delete all my profiles, which I did now I can't even reinstall my profile that has all of my data and saves attached to it Uodate: Simple fix was go into my MS account and turn off recurring payment for Gamepass Ultimate, then I was able to log in on the 360 and Series X, then turn recurring payment back on. Fixed it.

This doesn't work. When I test my internet connection, it tells me the connection is working, but when I try to sign in to Xbox Live, it wont connect to Live. Clicking on Games With Gold wont do anything because I'm not signed in. Also, on my Series X, I already have Recurring Billing on.

What the hell... lmao I didn't think this would work, its weird that this kind of bug would exist. Thing is though I was actually trying to play something on the actual 360 Hardware and I kept being told that there was something wrong with my credentials? Thank you, tinkering with the recurring billing setting was the key. I changed my active Gamepass Ultimate (it’s for my Xbox One) from on to off, and somehow my Xbox 360 started logging into Xbox Live again :o Thanks for the tip!
This worked for me but I used a Series X to turn off auto renew for Game Pass. Then I could log in normally on my 360. I have no idea why this works or what breaks it in the first place. So bizarre.

I was under the impression that most people(especially gamers) knew this, but like most services that allow recurring billing: go to account, then manage/settings, then billing/payments(some services only allow recurring billing or cancel service), and then turn it on/off.
Alright so this kind of worked?! I was able to download my profile after turning off recurring billing, however it gave me the same error almost at the end but my profile appeared there already. I just signed in again, clicked on remember my password and it worked!

2 years later it still works. If recurring billing is already on, just turn it off and on again and it'll work.

It should. But turn it back on. Turn it off, log out, clear the cache/prefetch/memory. Then turn recurring back on.

You cant turn on recurring payments if u have xbox game pass ultimate OR xbox live gold prepaid subsriptions, u need a fix for that
