    In 1972-73, we (San Diego County) had almost triple our normal rainfall. I was a volunteer firefighter and we spent about every waking minute filling and handing out sandbags. Our spare time was spent filling sandbags and building levees, trying to protect property. As I remember it, 1997-98 wasn't as severe...

    I'd love to see a follow up video to this one, explaining how a strong El Nino year will affect weather, crops, etc.

      Or how they were completely wrong.

      It doesn't matter to me if it actually falls in this year or some other year, we'll have one eventually, and I'd still like to know more. Usually during El Nino there are fewer Atlantic hurricanes, but I don't know why, or what other effects it can have.

      Karen N.
      I'm glad you want to know more, kudos to you. There are indeed fewer Atlantic hurricanes during an El Nino event and this is predominatly due to an increase in vertical wind shear(think of wind shear as blowing off the top of deeper clouds within the hurricane due to stronger winds above) which in turn limits their growth. This further weakens or lessens the probabilty that a tropical system(for example a hurricane) will intensify.

      Karen N. Just don't point the finger accusatorily, demand ridiculous concessions, and then prove every point you've made previous to demand those assertions is false with your own actual documentation that you've tried to hide and destroy.
      Because that's what's happened. So bullshit to human global warming. Period.

      Er...what? May I recommend a copy of the Practical English Handbook, 5th Edition, by Watkins, Dillingham and Martin?

    I live on a small island in the pacific and the water is always warm, but yesterday it was extremely warm. Our family also noticed a yellowish hue in the water that was slowly drifting south of the island. It was extremely bizarre

      Ever hear of Fukushima? Type it in your search bar, stay out of the water. I live on west coast US in CA and wont go to the beach anymore.....EVER!!!!

      Krissy Wade I would suggest avoiding all the nonsense Fukushima conspiracy videos on youtube. It's almost seems that people like you are trying hard to find something to be scared of constantly. Do you not actually care about reality or something?

    • @krissywade3497
      @krissywade3497 10 лет назад

      I care about reality and I'm not scared. But I'm going to be AWARE instead of burring my head in the sand. OK.....ok Things are going on all over the world and if you don't keep tabs on them, then who's running from reality????

    From the Sydney Morning Herald,
    "Earlier this year, temperatures in the eastern Pacific climbed, prompting some climate experts to predict a strong El Nino could be possible. However, after a burst of westerly winds - the reverse of the usual pattern along the equator - atmospheric conditions failed to reinforce the underlying ocean temperature differences."
    So if there is an El Nino this year, it's not going to be strong.

    Next big one El Niño will come? When and where will get hit ? Last November 2013, hurricane Haiyan destroyed Philippine Islands...

    I have often thought what would happen if El Nino moving back from Indonesia to the South American coast, crosses the coast and gets trapped over the Amazon forests, can indeed burn it up in a week. In 2010 such a hot zone got trapped over Russia for a month causing record temp of 40 in Moscow and over a thousand forest fires.

    Plenty of information out there on how El Nino's are caused by the wobbling and shifting of the earth's axis, and how large earthquakes shift the axis.

      Here on the Northern coast of Peru, the see has a bad smell these days.

    • @nmarbletoe8210
      @nmarbletoe8210 10 лет назад

      El nino seems to be caused by the winds over the Pacific. El nino might itself cause axis wobble, because it moves so much water towards Peru.

    • @frederikeeberhart5033

      Enough large earthquakes in the last weeks to make us wobble and shift. And now I still do not know, are we having a "Niño" or not. I do not think so, it is pretty cool here, in case of a Niño it should already be a bit warmer.
