- Decided to try my hand at building an electric guitar from parts, without spending crazy amounts. (I spent just under £200 GBP) and had lots of fun along the way !!!
Custom (recycled) pine guitar body, routed for ONE pickup (£50)
(Ebay seller : upcycledguitars )
50’s style Telecaster type neck (I bought used, about 8yrs back on ebay, for £50)
Tonerider AC2 Alnico II humbucker pickup (£46),
Steel tailpiece (£10 on ebay)
Bridge - Tunomatic style (soon to change for a Wilkinsons tunomatic bridge, £15).
Scrap scratchplate left-over (had for years)
Volume pot, mini-toggle DPDT switch & jack socket (and need a knob for the volume pot, so will add up to about £10)
Strings - 12-54 nickel-wound D’Addarrios £8
Brilliant guitar, Brilliant playing. Should've documented the build. New subscriber here.
Yayyyy 💜 It sounds gorgeous. Simple and gorgeous.
As a matter of fact, I'm getting a guitar custom made for myself too. Should be with me in 3-4 months.
Sounds authentic, very cool guitar, put pickup in the right place for sliding, simple guitar-woman shaped body with telecaster neck - perfecto!
Sounds nice ! Very similar tone to your other guitars imo. Good build too 👍🎸
Same pickups, same player !!!!
Awesome mate!
Sounds and looks cool, man. But it’s your magic touch that makes all the sound!
Many thanks, dude !
Just bought a Gibson 1934 Jumbo Custom Shop reissue. Will do a video at some point. Usually not impressed with new Martins & Gibson acoustics - but this one was a lot nicer
Wow ! Those wires are thick Snakehips ! - never gone that heavy on my slide guitars - am i missing something ? I use 10's for Elmore stuff. 🎸
Hi Alfie ! I've currently got 12-54 nickel-wound strings, with a wound 3rd string on the guitar.
I should have a proper Tunomatic bridge arriving in the post tomorrow. Once I have that installed, and I'm happy all the geometry is spot on, I'm gonna take the neck & everything off - and paint the body.
When I put it all back together again, the guitar is getting 13-56 strings.
This guitar will have two or more scratchplates, with a different pickup set up on each scratchplate, with all controls, including a jack socket, all on the scratchplate). I plan for one scratchplate with a Soapbar P90 pickup. It will be as simple as loosening off the strings, pull thee ball-ends out of the tailpiece, unscrew 6 screws holding the scartchplate, and swap over to another scratchplate/pickup combination.
I only ever really use one pickup AND never really use a tone control. On two pickup guitars, I tend to mostly use the neck pickup, or use both together. Not keen on trebly sounding bridge pickups at all. The middle position is ideal for me - so it seems the best solution.
@@snakehips81 thanks for the details Snakehips. Its a interesting project . I have a guitar similar that i put together a couple of years ago from a accoustic body - which i removed the top and put a solid piece of wood inside like a through piece to stop feedback. I then put the top back on and put an old strat copy neck on it. I sawn f holes in the top and put a single humbucker on and a tailpiece similar to yours and a metal bridge. I have it strung with 10's for Elmore stuff and it sounds great. I will do a vid wen i get round to it and show you . 🎸
i just played that VERY guitar
Bitchin' guitar! Like that pine body
Well mah baby's gone, and she won't be baaaack no more, this is true in my case haha
