Imo the best block counter comes from the flails since they cannot be parried, but idk if you can hit trade through attacks with a colossal weapon block counter that might be good too
in cnt tests guard counters in general were not parryable.
My bet is on the claws or one of the other several weapons that go through shields.
Can't parry them. Probably spears and heavy thrusting swords make the best guard counter weapons, since they are longer. A longsword on the other hand seems to be out of reach a lot.

I would be interested in your take on how useful guard counters are in pvp. I imagine they're pretty worthless, but I've quit online multiplayer cold turkey for my health so no way of knowing
Guard counters are almost completely useless, unless it's against a bad player or a accidental catch.
Not only are they useless they are even punishable in many cases
You hit their shield, there’s a huge sound and start up lag for the counter, you just roll out the way or if weapon has short range, you can literally just step backwards. It’s pretty terrible
So far I think it's super risky with low reward. I might even go as far as more risky than parrying. It's easy to punish and even easier to dodge. But I suppose I'll be proven wrong when it's someone skilled doing it.
If you block something with a lot of recovery it can be ok.
Imagine pressing other buttons apart from L2.

I find guard counters are just too slow. Unless you have a ton of poise, someone using a fast weapon can keep r1 spamming you and hit you before counter executes. Even if they can't, there is plenty of time to roll away after triggering one for most attacks.
Turtle poking with fingerprint shield is another matter, you actually do need something that hits through shields entirely for that (clouds, certain ashes of war, or just roll timing, the foot plant to do poke is slower than normal attacks). Or worst case, just throw status crap at them then pressure.
This makes me think of the clash system in Dissidia Final Fantasy, where you and the opponent try to attack and dodge until you can bait out an opening.
this is the peak pvp experience but y'all aren't ready for this kind of conversation

I use guard counters in pvp with grandmace/greatshield. I accelerate the guard counter by pivoting just like you do if you’ve ever played Mordhau or Chivalry. It’s super powerful when fighting a gank especially since people don’t level vigor. I also use curved sword talisman for 20% damage boost. I’ve one shot people.

@@male_maid5951 No, they don’t count as critical aid you’re tryna use the health on critical talisman. In pve you’ll get critical more often tho due to high poise damage of guard counters

Best way to counter a shield is to force them to fight by trying to backstab them shield poking of jump attack
there are easier ways.
poison and rot arrows using barrage skill.
st Trina swords. (shields don't stop status build ups you know.)
whips. whips do a ton of poise damage. and ofcourse still stack statuses.
shields are a crutch for players who can't avoid getting hit.

Can't parry guard counters. A lot of heavy attack types aren't parryable at all. For example charged heavy attacks don't seem like can't be parried, at least coming for medium-heavy weapons.
Why do people keep saying shields are meta, shields are so easy to stop with AOE spells-

I don’t understand this game the mechanics into making a build I don’t get it I’m in the late game and got like 230 hours in this game and still don’t understand it I see all these builds where guys are just taking huge chunks of the bosses health I don’t know how in the hell they do that ! pvp in this game I deff dont like
Easiest way I can explain it.
Each weapon has a stat scale which is based off of its affinity. The scales starts at S as best going down.
S4-5 > A3.5> B3> C2> D1.5> E1.
S will give like 4-5 points per level to the damage of the weapon. Where as E will give 1-2 point of damage per level.
Str S / 20 = 20×4= 80 or damage increase.
Str E / 20 = 20×1.5= 35 damage increase.
This applies to Str, Dex, Int, Faith, Arcane. So pick a damage type and stick with it is a simple way to deal large numbers. Dont hybrid builds, meaning dont try to go 18 int, 24 Faith then 20 DeX 20 Str. Make one stat 40-50 and leave the others near 10 or maybe increase one to 18 to use a few spells or something.
