Not gonna lie. I loved my 22 Tucson hybrid. Turbo 4 was just enough grunt around town and on the highway.
It’s a real shame that genesis never had a full hybrid. They prob would sell more cars. I like the genesis line.
Solid reliability over 18 months and 54k miles. However, Hyundai does have some questionable reliability on some models.

I have made 70 mpg trips in my '24 Corolla hybrid, 65 is not that impressive.
@@darkrulier sorry my best elantra hybrid record currently is 69MPG with 50ish miles on a trip. Doubt corolla can make that 70mpg in long trip lol. Let me guess, 70 mpg in few miles of city drive? It is pretty much tested from many sources alrdy that Prius and Elantra has better mpg than corolla hybrid.

You should do a video on epower.. It's such a fascinating take on hybrids. More like an electric car with a built in generator. If they could update their motors to be more powerful and more fuel efficient they'd have a hit here in the States and lots of motors are smaller lighter more powerful and more efficient than they were a few years ago

I'm a MAZDA FANBOY and more important to me is the sporty aspect of driving than Hybrids. But I also own a Ninja 650 and CBR 650, and the Ninja gets about 60mpg and the CBR gets about 55. It only costs about $12 to fill both tanks w/ premium. (if I were to get a Hybrid, it would be LEXUS/TOYOTA...ALL DAY LONG) 🏍🏍

Unless Hyundai/Kia is moving away from their current hybrid system (which still includes a torque converter or a clutch, depending on the transmission), I will stick with the much simpler planetary-power-split system that Toyota has employed for decades. I have driven both Hyundai's (2020 Ioniq) and Toyota's (2022 Corolla & 2023 RAV4) hybrids, and I can tell you for certain that Toyota's is much simpler to operate and more efficient.
My 2019 Niro Touring [18" wheels] averages low 50s' during warmer months and has been very reliable with 57k miles. even the tires are original and map updates are free and HK system works perfectly.
My son (who lives in PA) gets 60mpg from his Hyundai IONIQ hybrid

@@ouch9326 i can approve that is correct. My family owns Prius while I have elantra hybrid. My elantra hybrid beats out Prius by alot. I have nearly 69 MPG on a 50ish miles run which is alot higher than sticker MPG. Prius on the other hand, I already know MPG will be under the sticker MPG. The situation will be different when in busy city heavy traffic light tho. Prius will be better than Elantra in that situation. Less traffic city & free way (elantra hybrid>prius), busy heavy traffic city (Prius>elantra hybrid)

What a lot of people don't know is that Ford and Toyota co-developed hybrids and share patents. Ford is not being "allowed" to use Toytoa tech. Toyota seldom does anything by itself.

It will be miles more reliable than their other engine offering because the non-hybrid comes with that stupid racing wet dual clutch transmission that has been nothing but unreliable in all their models.... the hybrid for the Santa Fe is the same hybrid system with only some tweaks from their previous Santa Fe so it's a couple years old and also it has a traditional automatic transmission it won't be as reliable as any of the Toyota hybrids but it shouldn't be a slouch and they have that 100,000 Mi warranty 10 year warranty on the battery hybrid
I would easily pick the SF HEV over the turbo. Far more efficient and reliable.

Its time for the second generation of hybrids and EV s with optional gas range extenders and plug-ins hybrids with 200 mile EV range.
There are no plans to improve the EV with shorter down times and long range. Despite the fact that my jaguar XJL provides me with a range of 570 miles, Hybrids are also great cars and would definitely take one over an EV any day.
I'd like to see a 2025 Kicks hybrid. It needs more than 140hp!!

The only consern I have is the reliability of the Hyundai powertrain so will stick to Honda and Toyota. Over here in Europe Hyundai have also started to close down dealerships to just be online..
If Tesla was "SMART" they would introduce a model 3 and Y Hybrid that could get 75-100 miles per gallon AVERAGE with large battery, MEDIUM TO LARGE GAS TANK, WE ARE TALKING UO TO A 1000 MILE RANGE, that can easily be serviced and the battery replaced for less than a new home mortgage.

With more power speed ev range mpg and eventually a plug-in version.
And evetually match their quality workmanship and reliability.
And an optional after purchase-small safe gas range extender for their trunk on newer cars or rear storage area.

By betting everything on ev only, Tesla has lost its edge.

It doesn't look like Hyundai's technology is going to be next-gen, it's just going to be the similar, but with a different engine. It's not terrible, but not good enough to disrupt the market.
I keep hearing that Hybrid will built in GA factory but Hyundai should fire the person who said that. Hyundai should keep GA factory as EV specific factory. Also I am not sure Korean union will approve building hybrid cars in GA. EV3 will be expected to price at 30-38k and with tax credit, it might be very similar price with hybrid cars. Why don’t they produce more ev3 instead of hybrid?
As long as they are electric powered which is better control and better posture better torque better power and overall better reliable. With motors + generator the way to go. Dual mode direct and electric motor. Even tri motor or 4 motor or 5 or even 6 being the max needed 4 wheel elecric motor and 2 direct power motor
I cannot get excited by hyundai/kia. WTH did they do to the look of the Kona? However, H/K definitely built a car for Chevy with adequate low gear torque, which has been a weakness in compact Toyotas. How much torque does the new 2025 Toyota Camry AWD have in low gears?

The efficiency of Toyota 's higher end and heavier hybrids like the Tacoma iForce doesn't impress at all. Thats beaten by Toyota's Hilux with the 1GD-FTV turbodiesel. Toyota's hybrid system doesn't scale well in terms of efficiency the heavier they get.
Great competition, Honda and Nissan next generation Hybrid systems are coming soon as well.

Hyundai’s been proven wrong about their ev strategy. A couple years ago, they stopped the development of new engines & hybrids, thinking EVs would be the future. Now, with this hybrid boom, they are having to revive their ICE development team. What a joke.
To each their own, but none of the manufactureres nowadays, even Toyota, have the reliability of the old Toyota. I may lease more often than purchase.
A 2015 or newer Prius should go the distance. There are people on Priuschat with over 500k on them and no major issues.

Hyundai and Kia are too vertically integrated. Their parent companies all use in house components making them cheaper, but nothing is best of breed. Engines blow up, DCTs grind to pieces, etc.
Their EVs may change this but I'd wait at least five more years before trusting their EVs. Toyota for me.
Hyundais hybrid battery warranty doesn't even match Toyota's. (100k vs 150k)
Between that and their mixed reputation for quality control I don't think I'll risk it until their tech is proven.

@@MAGA-yg7op Are you speaking of the 2013 to 2018 Rav4 recall? That's for the 12 Volt battery. It can shift and the positive terminal can contact a ground. Nothing to do with the hybrid traction battery. Toyota's hybrid batteries have a reputation of being very safe.

Car reviewers falk about HEV + AWD as is now the hybrid is some sort of performance vehicle, when it's so far from the truth. Plus the AWD systems are trash and they're attached to a CVT. Subaru is trying its best to make CVT + AWD work and AWD is their specialty, still trash.
eCVT and CVT are not the same thing... they share letters, thats it. Subaru tried making their CVT more reliable using metal instead of a rubber belt, its ... better than a normal belt for sure. eCVTs don't use belts at all. Toyotas is completely mechanical, no belts, clutches, anything... very rock solid and lasts forever. Honda's need a bit more maintenance later on because they have a clutch in them... but both are so much better than a CVT or even an Auto transmission.
I’ll buy a Hyundai when pigs fly. Until their ethos changes over time and the doubtful even when I’m so old it won’t happen in my lifetime I’m not buying that stuff Toyota only maybe Honda that’s it

Just lease, then you remove all the risks. I will never pay cash in full for a Hyundai and don't suggest anyone to do so either. Maybe for an ICE Hyundai, but their hybrids are money pits after warranty is up. Also their transmissions suck.

Hyundai hybrids start having problems after 5 years and repairs aren't cheap out of warranty. I'll stick to Toyota, then Honda for what they have available. I'll let the guinea pigs take all the risks and we'll circle back in 2030. If you're leasing, I guess it doesn't matter, but then, doesn't matter what brand you get. Hyundai's are throwaway cars. Don't believe me? Dare you to pay cash in full for a Hyundai hybrid and tell me how amazing its been 10 years down the road. Hyundai was sorta worth it when they gave 10 year warranty like 10 years ago, 5 years now is literally when the car will start having major problems. Buying a used Hyundai hybrid is just asking for trouble.
Unless you guys can show me that reliability and resale of a Hyundai is equal to a Toyota it doesn’t make any financial sense to buy one. I’ve only seen reliability issues in a lot of their models, with some of their hybrid burning down. Just get the new 2025 Camry LE for under 30k(don’t be lazy, there ARE dealerships that sell at msrp) and call it a day. Stay away from Hyundais
Just buy it used. Same with the Genesis cars. They're FANTASTIC and 2nd hand their cost is such a value! I'm thinking of either the Elantra N or the Genesis G70. I'm a Ford guy but don't see any that draw my eye. In between getting a Sports car or Luxury daily.

@Xander1Sheridan Their ev seems to be doing ok. They employ a ton of people in the US as well as have a decent dealer base. If they can find a way to get back in the game it would help level the playing field. It's not just about the cars. They just need compelling, reliable, highly fuel efficient vehicles. Most of them look good, as is.
Toyota is way behind in tech and it will catch up with them soon or later thats why their financial projection for next year have a 20% drop and r&d capital expenditure and infrastructure
But I've already put a deposit on a Toyota hybrid.

Hyundai focuses more on design but the quality department is last. Engine, transmission and electrical problems are endless issues in Hyundai's products
My mother had a Hundai Elantra that went 250K miles. Not sure you are familiar with their cars.

Still I know 10+ other people who own Toyotas and none has ever had any problems after 10+ years, they replace their cars because they want something new, not because their car doesn't work. I'll stick with my sample set that Toyota > Hyundai. you do you though, feel free to pay cash in full for a Hyundai and have that same confidence.

If it's not a fully ICE vehicle, no sale.
Decided NOT to get a 3rd Kona, think they are ugly (can we say "Sherman Tank"?) -- but instead, getting a KIA Niro PHEV (probably) over EV (maybe). Depends on price and since I'm leasing, should be qualifying for the full $7500 Federal tax credits off MSRP. If Hyundai is rolling out new hybrid technology, it will have issues first year, so by the end of my lease in 2027, the world of EV's should change (or hybrids take over the world).

no they aren't. Toyota has always rated their cars lower than most people can get. Stop dreaming. Hyundai has been sued repeatedly for mpg claims.
@Xander1Sheridan Those lawsuits were back in the mid 2010's, but they have been underrating their fuel economy numbers since. Hyundai current hybrid sedans overachieve the fuel economy numbers, but their crossovers fall short on the highway.

This puts Honda and especially Mazda very behind in the game! Mazda needs to really get going. Their limited hybrids are not near adequate. Imagine if they could build a CX 30 hybrid to compete with the Toyota Cross?
Hard pass on any Hyundai/Kia product. Reliability has never been there for them. You must be insane for buying a new technology Hyundai like this one.
