  • This Motor is designed similar to the Newman motor, Its a variation of his design
but it doesnt have two sets of windings, just the one, Also the two sets of magnets are fixed onto the outer rim of a 5" pulley wheel which is mounted on a central shaft. I have used the ignition points of a car instead of the Newman commutator. This increases the speed quite substantially, I am still improving this part of the motor but you will see from this video that if you get it set up very accurately the speed increases by a large margin.
A second coil could be added to this set up if required to explore the BEMF that is generated on this model, with out Capacitors or resistors the BEMF is quite substantial. without the unit getting warm.? I am using a 14 volt battery to power the motor and you will see the speed and the torque reached is high.
A 24 volt battery would make this motor very fast with loads of torque.
This is the first video that I have ever down loaded onto youtube so I hope you like what you see, Please feel free to send any advice and help that would improve this motor further it would be most welcome.
    thanks for watching.

My way of winding a coil is best 10 layers has 10x the magnetic field of 1 layer, most coils are wound with each layer opposing the layer next to it, by windng it 1 way then back the other way over an over, i wind every layer just 1 direction from left to right, mine act like how magnets act when stacked together,
what do you want to know about how to make a motor? I know most things about the newman motor.

My coil and magnet will be the same height giving the greatest interaction, im stacking 8 decent size n52 magnets with the rotor in the middle and the coil is being wound around something only just bigger than the space needed for the magnet, ive got 30 9v batteries to eventually try in series, cant imagine how fast it'll spin, yours goes fast and sounds good

Also Newmans commutator was set up different, i could do a diagram of it if you want on my next video?

Hi. I love that design. Reminds me of those old steam put-put sounding engines. Have you measured how much amps this motor draws from the battery? if it needs more volts to go faster, you could use simple transformer to gear it for higher voltage. You could also try to measure the torque by adding a pulley to the shaft so that it would lift a hanging weight by it..
Btw do you think scaling up this motor 2-4x and making wiring and the pulley heavier would make it able to run a vehicle like a small garden tractor?

It seems to have more torque with the magnets positioned where they are.

@@DeryckThompsonChasingtheDream if you can stop it with your hand, motor would be useless.. the only real test for this motor is doing some work under a load not just spinning around. 1000w bicycle hub motor can power a small tractor with a plow when you gear it properly. Search youtube "Electric tractor 1000w" and the first video should be the right one.

@@Zanderman2000 Hi and thanks for your coments, I agree about the torque but you have to realise that the model is vastly scaled down to the original Newmans motor, its not even 1% of the size of Newmans motor. hemce the difference in torque, The model I have made puts the magnets in a different alignment to the coil and I noticed that it was faster and had more torque, I am looking to up size it.
      thanks

@@DeryckThompsonChasingtheDream the motors I'm in the middle of making should have 8-10kg of copper, I'm gonna try it like a hand crank generator 1st then ssg motor then set up for Newman style, my ultimate plan is to put it on a homemade wooden scooter to drive around if fuel cars get banned

But yours must use a hell alot if amps because your wire is reslly thick, you need a really thin long wire for no amps but volts can go up yo 1000v at no amps 1000v at 0.001amps is only 1watts, no motor in the world is such low power for the useful output you can get, that's what Newman was really bringing to the table, but my way of winding coil is also a improvement on performance all motors would benefit. Stronger field with less input power
