Thanks for the background on capturing waves - clearly I need to spend a lot more time and not sure how I'll convince myself to be on the leeward rail for photographic priorities rather than on the windward side for performance :-))
Amy, have you tried using a gimbal?? That should stabilize the camera but let the boat travel beneath the camera so you have boat movement but not camera movement.
I don't think that would do much. The position of the boat changes significantly with big waves. It's not a rocking motion that a gimble could correct.
Amy your hard work filming is not wasted on us. Florence always looks amazing gliding through the water. And the wave motion is always captured so beautifully, to the point where I feel a bit green🤢🤣 You both nailing it. Always excited when I see one of your vids drop.
Another awesome video - sublime music, great videography and beautifully judged commentary. I loved the Behind the Lens segment - not many could do this with credibility. You two have been on such a journey as sailors and as documentary filmmakers.
Thank you for your discussion of how you capture waves on film. I find that filmography especially beautiful and inspiring (especially your shots around southern Africa).
THANK YOU! After over 6 years of sailing and filming, you two have become experts! The story that you tell and the footage that you show are some of the best of the sailing channels. Other channels may be more "famous", as they perhaps appeal to a wider demographic, but your videos are definitely higher quality. You DESERVE way more subs to your channel. And.. PLEASE do not stop doing what you are doing. Wherever sailing is going to take you in the future, the skills that you have learning in this your FIRST circumnavigation are going to help you to become even better. I just hope that you can get your own scuba "kit"! The snorkeling bits are nice but I would really love to see what you can do when you can be under water for 30 mins or so. I know that you have been back in "Jolly Old" for some time now but I do look forward to your biweekly adventures! Best to you both. Edit: One thing... PLEASE strap your camera to you or something safe! I cringe every time I see someone holding a camera and NO safety strap around their neck or somewhere.
These guys are above the average professional video producers. I'm laughing about your comment to strap the camera to something. I do quite a bit of photography between crew duties on a race boat. Out in wild conditions I never have a lanyard and have not lost a camera or phone when sailing, until I did. On the dockside, my phone jumped out of my pocket and with one bounce it joined my glasses and sunglasses in 3 metres of water in the marina. The diver charges $100 to get them back and what you get is a non functional brick that looks like a phone.
Still the only channel that I have watched that has managed to capture the beauty of bioluminessence, at night in the Indian Ocean, if my memory serves me. But that aside, just generally high quality footage, and narration.
Get a used car inner tube to solve your mooring issue. When needed, you just inflate with a bicycle pump, pass the mooring line through and leave it on the mooring. It will act as a bumper and protect your hull. I often used 2 and 3 tubes one over the other depending of the mooring shape. I enjoy your videos and your attitude.
Excellent video Amy. Perfect balance of on camera interactions, voice over segments, B-roll and tasteful drone shots. Love the new 360° camera which gives a subtle and intimate view. Great editing and nice music and ambient sounds. Excellent story telling. Just a lovely watch!
I really admire what you have achieved. You have seen such beautiful places, yet when you see more beauty, your still in awe. Take care. I hope you are ready for England when you get back. It's not the same. Stay close to Florence and be ready to escape!
Was just wondering if, on your first trip to the Caribbean, you stopped at the island of Dominica? I spent some time there back in 2001 working with a coral restoration company. I found the island to be very beautiful, and quite pristine compared to the other islands in the Caribbean. I have been following and enjoying your episodes since French Polynesia.
I appreciate all the work you put into the videos. I also appreciate that your channel isn’t full of bikini booty shots. You two tell a great story, amazing edits and videos! My favorite sailing channel. Zatara is another family I enjoy for the same reason. Too many channels in sailing are geared towards views and will do about anything for them! Thank you again for taking us along.
Loved the behind the camera bit .. followed you guys from the start and been so impressed with the gradual evolution from really good filmmaking to absolutely stunning professionalism ..
Amazing videography and episode Amy and Matt! The "behind the camera" moment was really great! It shows how much time and effort you have to put in to make these episodes looks so natural and effortless.
When you share tricks of the trade, or maybe after you invent them, you know you're in the big leagues. Simply brilliant. Enjoy the northern Caribbean! And as always, thank you.
I keep meaning to write to you to offer my thoughts on your progress, but inevitably get drawn into each episode, and then the moment passes. In a crowded marketplace your calm and pleasant demeanour, modest and achievable goals, thorough preparation and competent and responsible seamanship/womanship set you apart and above the vast majority of your peers. Congratulations to you both. You should be very proud of yourselves. Tim, Adelaide, South Australia
When you get back to England, turn right and do it all again. Taxed to death if you work hard, mortgages unaffordable, awful public services. Dont be the last one to turn the lights off, anyone with aspirations and a work ethic has already clocked it and is gone. Soon there'll be nobody left to tax....
I wanted to show appreciation to you for the quality of the voyage viewing we've had while hiding in your cockpit for the last 6 years, but didn't want to repeat what every other viewer has been saying for these last 6 years! So I will just say I can't wait to see what will await us in the high lattitudes dodging bergy bits and witnessing calving glaciers up close and personal! I may have to get a new set of foulies if I'm going to sit in my easy chair and get splashed with freezing salt spray! And I DO love your stills that you send out to your $pecial follower$! I always select one or two to post on FB to give you some wider publicity! The rocket launch from Guiana was unique from sailors. I know you plan to leave for the Azores from the Bahamas, but if you check the NASA launch website, you might find a day or night launch that can be seen from the Bahamas!
Being on a boat people tend you go for a wide angle lenses so as to get more into frame. Of course wide angle lenses with their wider angle of view, make the foreground bigger (ie deck and boat), and the background smaller ( sea and waves ).
I LOVED THE WAVE CAPTURE BITS ...TOP TIPS THE ...CAN'T WAIT FOR SOME SCUBA DIVING SHOTS I THAT AQUA YOU SEA ON THE NEXT EPISODE...TAKE CARE BOTH ...LIVERPOOL UK ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The camera tips are fantastic. I agree and thought that you folks captured the waves better than most. I have heard that waves are tough to capture and think y’all do a great job, thank you for sharing!
Love your channel. Stunning photography and excellent video editing! Have you thought of using your pole for the spinnaker to haul the bouy away from the hull? We have a bowsprit; on odd occasions, when we do not anchor, we use the bowsprit to haul out the bouy away from the hull.
Your filming is something I have always admired about your channel. Even the best techniques can still come up short without a talent for editing said clips. I must say your editing skills makes your productions seamless. They have a natural flow that makes them feel like a chapter from a book. Great Job!
dear Matt and Amy Enjoying your video's while we start to dream and prepare ourselves for a longer periode on board of our boat. Thank you for all the helpful tips and tricks that you can only learn from your own experiences or in this case the challenges that you guys come across. But now a completely other question: you use some very nice music that I was unable to find. Can you tell me the name of the music that you are using throughout the series and for example at the end of ep 150 and start of 151? Really nice and well chosen because it is so supporting the images and feeling of sailing for me. Enjoy the last bit of this trip and safe yourneys! Philip Netherlands
The thing about picking up a mooring is that you have zero idea how well maintained it is, below the surface. Boats have been lost that way! At least when you anchor, you have 100% control over your safety.
I hope you make it to the Philippines one day. The Moaboal area is spectacular. I actually had tears in my eyes because the snorkeling was so shallow and amazing! I could float 2-5 feet above it.
Don't know if it will work on gel coat but I buffed my 30yr old car paint and added the new Ceramic coating. It is wonderful, nothing sticks to it. I also applied it to our porcelain stove top same result so far.
Thank you for the explanation of wave capture for the video, very interesting, and shows how hard you work to make these episodes the highlight of my viewings. Your story is magnificent and captivating in the best way possible. Thank you!
Oh I love the new “David Attenborough” behind the scene section! Please do make this a regular feature…. & we are still awaiting the #BBC to take you on as roaming reporters!
Love the contents and information of your videos and must say you have the cleanest and best maintained looking boat, after 6,5 years at sea, of all the RUclips channel boats I have seen.. Well done. 👋👋
love the descriptions of your video shooting - I film skiing and am very new to attempting editing - its daunting with the software - how did you first learn editing? could you describe how you learned please? what changes have you gone through as you've gotten more experience?
To stop the incessant mooring ball banging, try a stretchy snubber through your anchor roller. Or, I’ve seen someone use their spinnaker pole like a bowsprit with a stretchy snubber. The snubber is in addition to the normal lines.
Great episode as always, stunning filming and great narrative. The explanation into how you capture the best wave footage shows your dedication to detail which becomes clear when watching each episode.
Thank you for sharing your tips about how to shoot realistic sea states. So many times I have taken videos of waves that appeared enormous and when I view them back they look flat and unimpressive.
Another great video thank you. Just a thought, could you not put your mooring line thru a short pvc tube with fender on the end to stop mooring ball from banging into side of boat?
Why did you guys never install a water maker? Was it simply to save money or is there no good place to install it or not enough electricity to run it??
Thanks for the videos and your advice. Can I ask a question about Florence's rig? You have a removable inner forestay. Is this mast head rigged without running back stays? Do you have a stay sail and a storm sail? And where do you keep these when on passage? Many thanks Simon
Yes inner stay goes close to masthead so no runners. Stay sail or storm jib is usually hanked on to inner stay and lashed down to dinghy on passage, which ever one we are not using is kept below.
Great underwater footage. Stay safe out there.
Thanks for the background on capturing waves - clearly I need to spend a lot more time and not sure how I'll convince myself to be on the leeward rail for photographic priorities rather than on the windward side for performance :-))
I know you guys do a ton of work to produce an episode. The result is overwhelmingly fantastic. I love it.
Amy, have you tried using a gimbal?? That should stabilize the camera but let the boat travel beneath the camera so you have boat movement but not camera movement.
I don't think that would do much. The position of the boat changes significantly with big waves. It's not a rocking motion that a gimble could correct.
Ah yes, Pigeon Island was named of course for an abundance of cats.😜🤪😉
Amy your hard work filming is not wasted on us. Florence always looks amazing gliding through the water. And the wave motion is always captured so beautifully, to the point where I feel a bit green🤢🤣 You both nailing it. Always excited when I see one of your vids drop.

Once more a fantastic video, I love your Videos because you allways have a lot of Sailing😊
Thank you for your discussion of how you capture waves on film. I find that filmography especially beautiful and inspiring (especially your shots around southern Africa).

OMG! I love you two so much. I'm proud to be a very modest Patreon and absolutely enjoy every single episode. Safe travels.
Thank you for your time and effort to make the wave footage.
You guys have a really great speaking voice and calm demeanor. Could watch you guys for hours.
Failing that, why not winch the buoy onto the foredeck? (Maybe there's not enough clearance to get it under the pulpit)
Thank you very much for explaining how you get those amazing shots of the sea, I have been rubbish trying to capture sea state.
You got some skills there Amy!! I don't think I'd trust moorings either. Wish it was a decision I had to make 🙄 another great vid guys.🍻
Excellent video Amy. Perfect balance of on camera interactions, voice over segments, B-roll and tasteful drone shots. Love the new 360° camera which gives a subtle and intimate view. Great editing and nice music and ambient sounds. Excellent story telling. Just a lovely watch!
OUTSTANDING, thank you for the behind sceen info about shooting wave shots.
I really admire what you have achieved. You have seen such beautiful places, yet when you see more beauty, your still in awe. Take care. I hope you are ready for England when you get back. It's not the same. Stay close to Florence and be ready to escape!
Thank you for the information about cleaning the hull of the boat. I knew about under the water line, but not above.
Beautiful (as always) guys, thankyou 🤗🤗 Really interesting segment on filming technique also. Thankyou again and Godbless 🤗🤗
Another beautiful video! as always well done
Fair winds⛵️

Enjoyed the commentary on filming waves/ camera operations. Thanks, fair winds as you head north. Thx, Andrew
Great video. As a photographer, I really enjoyed the behind the lens segment.
Loved the behind the camera bit .. followed you guys from the start and been so impressed with the gradual evolution from really good filmmaking to absolutely stunning professionalism ..
I'm aw struck by the parking lot atmosphere of island life in the northern Caribbean. I hope you enjoy what is offered. 😊😂
Is there any truth to the rumours that Matt might be the next James Bond?
No. Totally false! Amy is playing the next "Bond"
They are in pre-production right now.
Working title "Amy Bond and 'The Machine' !"
@@rickkwitkoski1976 but Mat may get casted as Q
And Amy is to be M!
Thanks for the filming/camera tips. Insightful, as you're so good with the images you produce.
You really earn your support! The time and effort put into the productions is huge! Thank you!
Amazing videography and episode Amy and Matt! The "behind the camera" moment was really great! It shows how much time and effort you have to put in to make these episodes looks so natural and effortless.
As always - nothing short of brilliant. The No 1 sailing channel
Another excellent video. I had noticed how the wave action had become much more stunning. Matt and Amy continue to master their craft.
You definitely do some of the best cinematography out of the sailing channels👍👍
When you share tricks of the trade, or maybe after you invent them, you know you're in the big leagues. Simply brilliant. Enjoy the northern Caribbean! And as always, thank you.

another great one. And I learned something about filming on a boat 🎥⛵

Where are Britons going? Is there anywhere left that's safe with a good, honest, solvent government?
How deep is it at the moorings? When I was there there was not really an alternative, because of the depth of water. My chain was not long enough.
Another great video, thanks.
Everything stops when I get the notification of a new episode.
I wanted to show appreciation to you for the quality of the voyage viewing we've had while hiding in your cockpit for the last 6 years, but didn't want to repeat what every other viewer has been saying for these last 6 years! Inspiring once again, Just watched a vlog where a Yacht is being given away. Plukky from Sailing into Freedom must of finally lost the plot!!

Hi,given the resources you have to hand I think that your filming is excellent and enjoyable,so thank you both very much for sharing it.Roly🇬🇧.
Enjoyed your camera explanation at the end, plus the content prior to that.
Love the channel. Very wholesome, great content, no bikini click bait or silly drama.

Thanks, don't look too closely though, she is due a major refit once we get home to England!
Just drop your anchor beside the morning and leave the chain slack. Then if the mooring line breaks you will hear the anchor dragging.
Informative, beautiful and relaxing. Thank you once again.
love the descriptions of your video shooting - I film skiing and am very new to attempting editing - its daunting with the software - how did you first learn editing? could you describe how you learned please? what changes have you gone through as you've gotten more experience?

Well done! I appreciate all the effort you go into getting the great shots in these videos!
In calmer weather I've been able to use the spinnaker pole lashed to the boat to hold the mooring buoy off away from the bow of the boat.
Thank you for sharing your tips about how to shoot realistic sea states. So many times I have taken videos of waves that appeared enormous and when I view them back they look flat and unimpressive.
Super video, great to learn about how all the filming magic happens to. Thanks
Wow Sailor 👍👍
Stunning shots!!!! Amy your videos are so beautiful
That's why I love your videos ! So adventurous ! ❤️🙏👌👍
The best sailing channel on YT . One of my close neighbours comes from Mozambique , she's gorgeous
Never stop keep sailing. I have known folks who been sailing the Caribbean for decades. Cuba is a good place to explore
Another great video thank you. Just a thought, could you not put your mooring line thru a short pvc tube with fender on the end to stop mooring ball from banging into side of boat?
Thanks for the advice! Don't leave us! Do another loop around the big blue marble!
I know I am like a long-playing record, but I say again, absolutely mesmerised by your inspirational videos. Love them!
Amy, your videos of the scenery is awesome! Thank you for all your hard work😊
Packed with valuable information in what to expect and look for in these group of Caribbean Islands especially Amanda's technique of filming waves
Omg that hair cut 😂 that’s a sailor’s cut for sure ! Love the channel guys!
Beautiful underwater footage 👍🏻💥👏🏻
You two so awesome. ❤❤ tyvm n safe travels, be here forever🎉
YOUR VIDEOS ARE BEAUTIFUL - YOU BOTH HAVE A REALLY NICE WAY ABOUT YOU. A ? WHAT KIND OF GOGGLES ARE GOOD
Why did you guys never install a water maker? Was it simply to save money or is there no good place to install it or not enough electricity to run it??
You should use your spinnaker pole to hold the boat off the mooring..
Polish the hull? You haven't resorted to painting it, yet?
Another amazing video. Thanks. The Caribbean looks so nice.
Beautiful guitar work, who is it playing?
Most excellent video. Stunning visuals.
Launches drone into an active flight path 😩
That where all the maih hide you need to stop your boat and pitch the bait..
Thank you for the behind the lens! More please
You guys are the best! Enjoy the freedom 🫶
Mat bring the bouy onto the boat. I did it all the time back in my day.
The filming, editing and music are superb, thanks for the details of the camera settings and techniques at the end.
Thanks for the videos and your advice.
Can I ask a question about Florence's rig?
You have a removable inner forestay.
Is this mast head rigged without running back stays?
Do you have a stay sail and a storm sail? And where do you keep these when on passage?
Many thanks Simon
