There is a video where someone put the song 'Spectre' into the opening of the movie, and did a beautiful job. The video is entitled 'Spectre (2015) Main Title with Radiohead Song & Credit'. It's well worth a watch!
Thom has said in interviews that the Bond people told them it was 'too dark.' But I think your conclusion of it not being commercial enough is what they were really thinking. (It worked out for them, Sam Smith's theme made them a ton of money and got them an Oscar for the film.)
spectre came out on christmas day 2015 (which was fucking sick), and was the the first indication of the orchestral sound that moon shaped pool would have 5 months later. Ill wind was released 4 months AFTER moon shaped pool in september 2016 as part of the moon shaped pool special edition. not sure why they have it listed as jan 1st.
Back in December 2015 I almost died in a bike accident in New Zealand and Spectre was the first song I listened to while I was in intensive care, completely lost, broken and numb, and somehow this song brought solace and comfort amidst the chaos. Being a Radiohead fan means you always have a life buoy when dealing with dark times.
Nice surprise! I think it adds good karma to an announcement for the 10th Album that you keep going through the singles and B-Sides! As I recall "Ill Wind" was kind f a quiet release - after another listen though, the groove is stuck with you for a while and while simple overall it is infectious. Totally ludicrous "Spectre" wasn't chosen. They also have an OK Computer b-side called "Big Boots" that was considered and passed on, so when you do the 11 or so tracks that are on the "OKNOTOK" album released sometime in the last couple/few years that have the original like 8 b-Sides plus 3 previously unreleased tracks, that song is on there. Fun fact - Radiohead owned the Grammy Nomination streak for Best Alternate Rock Album starting with "Ok Computer" (they still didn't have the notoriety in time for The Bends to make it) as every album they've released since then has been nominated with the 3 winners being pretty obvious. BUT...within that, they released the OK Computer B-Sides on a disc called "Airbag / How am I Driving" in 1999 - which I wore out totally as a cassette tape it was so great, but anyway, despite only being a 25 minute EP, it was nominated for the 1999 Grammy for best Alt Rock award, making their streak 8. I think I read somewhere its the only such release to do so. But the "OKNOTOK" is a better project to cover on here as it also has 3 additional fantastic tracks that apparently killed the band not to be able to fit on the original album. Btw those and B-Sides, it is the actual OK Computer Part 2 we all had wished for back then prior to having our heads twisted about by Kid A. There are is a single with 2 songs intentionally meant to be attached to "The Kind of Limbs" "The Daily Mail" with "Staircase" that I think could be argued to be better than any song on the main album. Hope great and inspirational things are coming your way, be well!
You should check out the B-sides from the OK Computer era. They're some great songs, especially Man of War, which was also inspired by the James Bond movies.
Radiohead initially submitted ‘’man of war” to be the song for spectre but because it was released in a previous documentary they made the studio couldn’t accept it. And by the time they had finished “spectre” the studio had already made the video for Sam smiths “writings on the wall” and fit into the movie. There are a documentary about the music of bond that briefly discusses the Radiohead bond song and even shows how Daniel Craig is actually a Radiohead fan himself.
I can guarantee you, Jack. Spectre will only grow on you over time. Beautiful lyrics. And I damn near reached Nirvana when I had I'll Wind playing in my headphones as I was skiing down a slope!!!
It really is the exact experience you’d expect from Radiohead doing a Bond song. Robbed of a cool opportunity. And they’re Brits! Also check out: Wilco “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot”, a really great listen many Radiohead fans like. Saw a comment for Beck’s “Sea Change” produced by Godrich and def recommend. And of course, Sigur Ros! Opened for Radiohead during their Kid A tour, and influenced some of Thom Yorke’s falsetto work.
I just logged on here to say the same thing. The In Rainbows From the Basement sessions are some of their best work, and lots of people prefer the King of Limbs From the Basement performance over the recorded album. I hope you react to these someday! 🙏
Awww.....you should have played the fan made video version where they synced the song with the beginning of the movies opening credits and to me it seemed like it would have been about as good as one could ask for. Hands down the best Bond song ever made regardless of who they chose.
You definitely gotta react to the Thom Yorke solo albums starting with The Eraser and the 2 others, and also I really can’t recommend enough to react to the Amnesiac B-Sides cause some of those tracks are amazing and could’ve been on the album in my opinion 😎🤘❤️💙
This is something that I enjoy about Radiohead even their b-sides are real gems and by the way lately I've been listening to a lot of Ill wind it's simply beautiful . I have the same feeling as you, I found Radiohead late back in 2018 and I have hope and I need them to release the 10th album, I look forward to it too much. I think the closest thing to a new album was kid a mnesia (although most of the new material was already floating around on the internet) with the addition of kid amnesia EXHIBITION was really exciting. Finally, I want to thank you for sharing these reactions and I really appreciate your way of reacting and enjoying Radiohead and all of the band's music. Greetings from Argentina 🙋♂️
Always enjoy watching you enjoy Radiohead and the smile 👍 It’s as if you are expressing the thoughts and emotions perfectly to how I think and hear it and not having anyone who’s interested, to share the enthusiasm with about their phenomenal talent, it makes my heart sing to hear a response such as yours and say exactly as it should be, perfect 👌 I never understood them rejecting radioheads bond masterpeice as being too dark as they then had Billie Eilish No time to die, is that not too dark aswell 🤷♀???? It’s all about making the most money ha ! Keep up the heartfelt reviews for this band, no one does if better than you 👍
These tracks are magical. Spectre is one of the tracks that got me into Radiohead and now I’ve listened to their whole discography and cannot wait to see him live in November
I love both these tracks! Speaking of falsetto and amazing vocals - Jeff Buckley. I’ve mentioned him before, but I can’t state enough how much of a must listen Grace is. Please do yourself the favour haha 😛
I’ve heard people call Radiohead “modern prophets”, and with their lyrics “keep your distance, and no harm will come… an ill wind blows…” years before COVID emerged… I can see why people might feel that way. 😮
Radiohead's From The Basement sessions are stellar, but if you'd like to react to their *entire* catalog before tackling their live content, it would be really neat to see you start with their B-sides in order. Some of my favorites of theirs are B-sides, Spectre being pretty far up there. (You won't find the song Pop Is Dead easily, it's worth a listen though!)
I'll give you one you may not get from anyone else. I think you would like a single called these are my twisted words. I love it, it's a VERY atmospheric track. Also staircase is a amazing song that should have been on the king of limbs
Why you should check out "Get To Heaven" by Everything Everything: - They're a progressive pop/rock band, this album is considered to be one of the greats of modern pop, a classic. - They're inspired by Radiohead, got their name from Kid A's "Everything In Its Right Place" starting lyrics. - They're not Radiohead, they are one of the most unique bands you'll ever hear, nothing sounds like them - Vocalist is quirky as hell, super engaging, eccentric and charismatic, just crazy vocals - The album's got around the same amount of views as Talking Heads' "Remain in Light". - Fantano reviews them alot. If you watch Middle 8, he did a video on them too, they're one of his fav bands. He did videos on albums and artists you've already checked out like alt-J, Tame Impala etc. - YOU WILL HAVE A LOT OF FUN. (Now that I've bothered you for a bit, have an awesome day dude!)
Love the reactions. Please do the King Of limbs Live From The Basement. It's stunning. It adds a whole new dimension to the album. it also has Daily Mail and Staircase on it, which are also great.
Check out Listening In channels How Radiohead Wrote the Perfect Bond Theme. It is an excellent breakdown of the Spectre theme. It is really a masterpiece when you dive into the composition.
ayee! nice video, you feel the music, your body language says it all. Consider me subscribed hehe. Also, take a look at the genre trip-hop since you like hip hop and radiohead, some absolute classics: dummy, mezzanine. Im pretty sure Damon was heavily inspired from it.
"Anger burns a bullet hole" is such a great line to describe Daniel Craig's Bond. And the studio threw artistic integrity in favor of commerciality. Sam Smith's version wasn't bad, but it pales in comparison. It's not even Sam Smith's best. It felt underbaked, like he was asked to do a Bond theme because he was popular when this movie came out. Shame...
spectre probably wasnt picked because it wasnt "radio friendly" enough, and the bond films often require the music to be very accessible to provide marketing for the film - Radiohead really doesnt make music like that
Since you're doing radiohead singles reactions, I cannot recommend The Daily Mail/Staircase enough. It's SO GOOD!
& supercollider / the butcher 👍
Staircase is the Wife’s fave Radiohead track.
Yessssssss. Two brilliant songs
@@dazhulme302your wife has good taste my friend
Daily mail is such a Beatles vibe for me, and starcase is my favorite side B of Radiohead tied whit Punchdrunk lovesick singalong!!!!
The fact they rejected Radiohead for Sam Smith is the worst decision in the history of the Bond franchise. No wonder that film sucked.
it didn`t
@@PUARockstar It very much did
@@jzproductions1784 in your opinion*
Absolutely true. That Sam Smith song was such a bore and it’s one of the only Bond themes I’ve ever hated.
@@PUARockstar the ratings agree with him and not you lol. Bless your little heart though
Thanks, Jack, you gotta do 'Man of war', another Bond theme the band submitted for Spectre, which was released as a B side of OK Computer in 2017.
You’re gonna hear this a lot but The Daily Mail cannot be skipped. One of my favorite
There is a video where someone put the song 'Spectre' into the opening of the movie, and did a beautiful job. The video is entitled 'Spectre (2015) Main Title with Radiohead Song & Credit'. It's well worth a watch!
I checked it out, such a col watch!
Yeah YT banned it for a while...so I watched it on repeat on Dailymotion when it first came out. The lyrics match unbelievably well.
Thom has said in interviews that the Bond people told them it was 'too dark.' But I think your conclusion of it not being commercial enough is what they were really thinking. (It worked out for them, Sam Smith's theme made them a ton of money and got them an Oscar for the film.)
Ah, now it's time to check out Radiohead's "The Daily Mail"!
I recommend listening to the album AMOK by his other band "Atoms for Peace" by Thom and Flea, it's a damn gem from start to finish.
Strongly agree. Ingenue is my go-to headphone test song, and one of my all time favorite songs from Yorke. Have it as an LP, too.
Listen the Ingenued piano versión from Jonathan Ross, is the complete nude versión of that song!!!!

If we get a new Radiohead LP, you'll be the first reaction I look out for.

Why you should check out "Get To Heaven" by Everything Everything:
- They're a progressive pop/rock band, this album is considered to be one of the greats of modern pop, a classic.

Forgot how good Ill Wind is. Really cool sound and arrangement.
Love the reactions. Please do the King Of limbs Live From The Basement. It's stunning. It adds a whole new dimension to the album. it also has Daily Mail and Staircase on it, which are also great.
can't wait
Don't forget Harry Patch (in memory of).
Radiohead is my favorite band and Bond is my favorite film franchise. I’m still mad the producers decided against using Radiohead’s song.
Check out Listening In channels How Radiohead Wrote the Perfect Bond Theme. It is an excellent breakdown of the Spectre theme. It is really a masterpiece when you dive into the composition.
All of his Radiohead deep dives are good!
His videos are incredible. The breakdown of Spectre was perfect.
Sounds awesome
Man if we're reacting to singles you've GOT to hear The Daily Mail
Gotta do 'Dawn Chorus' Jack, right up your street
please react to lift by radiohead! I love your reactions!

Best Bond Theme ever!

Shame...
You need to listen "my favourite faded fantasy" by Damien Rice, YOU WOULD LOVE IT!
Absolutely lukewarm reception for Ill Wind. That track is magic and over time I probably prefer it to anything on AMSP.
Far better than the song they picked for the film in the end!
Reacción a Quevedo en la última está buenísima desdé Tenerife España ❤❤❤❤❤
Booooo.. you're a grown man now! Lets go! Aesop Rock - Spirit World Field Guide. GETERDUN ya limey bloke.
That album was made on a SNES soundchip
You should do king gizzard. Only other interesting band out there
spectre probably wasnt picked because it wasnt "radio friendly" enough, and the bond films often require the music to be very accessible to provide marketing for the film - Radiohead really doesnt make music like that
can you do a reaction to grace by jeff buckley, hes very important to the foundation of radiohead
Why haven’t you reviewed THOM YORKE the Eraser. This is definitely a huge chunk missing from your Radiohead catalog
Coming soon Legend!
please react to another david bowie album
I know radiohead but who the F' is sam smith?
Easily the best Bond theme ever made, and they used a terrible one instead. Funny.
such a great song
