This song is a thousand times better and fits a thousand times better than the Sam Smith song. They made a huge mistake not picking this song for the movie.

I could not agree more! The movie was dark and ominous, it was an unusually intense James Bond movie, and Sam Smith's song--which was a bit mediocre, anyway--didn't fit it at all. I've seen the video someone did with the opening of Spectre, with the music replaced by this song, and it works brilliantly.

@@travelservices1200 - I thought the same thing after seeing that video. That particular video was what sold it for me.
I think that people that made the decision were just trying to go with what (they incorrectly thought) was more popular at the time.

@@the15thfloor71 That's fair. I don't want to diss Smith too much, he's a pretty good singer, but his song is unimpressive, and Spectre (the song) is a thing of beauty on many levels.

Honestly I think Radiohead dodged a bullet here. Spectre is hands down one of the worst Bond films - little more than Eon trying to rehash things in an era of MCU continuity when they finally got the rights to the 'Spectre' lore. Skyfall did a fantastic job of resetting the franchise; new MI6 HQ, new M, Quantum long forgotten. It could have been a return to the (largely) episodic adventures with new foes and assignments the Bond franchise did well. And then the producers tried to crowbar in Spectre - a shadowy organisation they'd already TRIED to do with Quantum - as the even bigger big bad. With a Days-Of-Our-Lives-style adopted brother plot line to boot. The opening Day of the Dead scene was great. The finale in the burnt out shell of the Vauxhall Cross building *_with posters of all the Craig-era baddies on the walls_* was laughable. Radiohead got shafted by MGM and Eon. Having "the greatest Bond theme that never was" is way better than being directly associated with that corporate dumpster fire of a movie.

There's a video on RUclips that uses Radiohead's "Spectre" as the theme instead of Sam Smith's "Writings on the Wall". The visuals go way better with Radiohead's submission than Sam Smith's even from an objective point of view. It's really worth checking out

Hi Scott, Hi Jakob! Spectre is one of my favourite RH tracks, glad you covered it. Someone has already mentioned this, but the video by Listening In titled 'How Radiohead wrote the perfect Bond Theme' is brilliant, it deepened my appreciation of the track, and shows how clever the song is (unsurprisingly!). He also has great videos on Pyramid Song and How To Disappear Completely.
Hoping to see you do Daily Mail soon!

The orchestration brings the nostalgia feeling of earlier Bond soundtracks. Disappointed it never got used, but for me I’m no fan of Bond. I’m just glad it’s out there for the long night time drives. Maybe you should consider doing these videos in that environment (in a safe responsible manner).

I just googled Sam Smith's song "Writing on the Wall" because I'm unfamiliar with it. I can see why it was stuck in the movie, since the orchestration has a classic "James Bond film" kind of sound (but predictable and a little bit boring... Kind of sounds like an "American Idol" performance. LOL). However, Radiohead's "Spectre" is glorious, with beautiful depth. Their orchestration is rich and cinematic, but - dare I say - maybe it's too heady or profound for a Hollywood-stamp-of-approval for a Bond movie? Maybe it's like comparing a 3-Michelin-star restaurant to McDonalds.

I thought the same thing about Spectre. Hollywood might not know what to do with a song that dwarfs the film they are to use it in. So now we get to listen to it without people asking, "Are you listening to that Bond song?"

Couldn’t agree more.. Spectre was supposed to be a dark and tumultuous story about confronting Bond’s past and meeting his primary antagonist.. Spectre was written aptly for that idea..
But the movie was more like Daniel Craig’s Bond finally decided on a wife so yeah Sam Smith is the correct choice.
