Just bought one today. The noise it makes when operating is crazy. Like you, I thought it was broke or something at first!

I'm so glad I found this video! I heard this sound while testing mine out and thought I was crazy! I'm glad my sawmill is a bit loud because that would be nuts.

I wish I'd had a camera to show you what these things are truly capable of. I dragged my 33ft steel hull yacht weighing 4.5 tons on a 1.5 ton boatyard trailer I'd made using two front axles off a 7.5 ton Bedford lorry (we call them lorries not trucks in the UK) into a farmyard then did a 5 point turn in the yard to get turned round ready to winch onto a low loader. With a purchase tackle you could shift a heck of a lot more.

You mean this specific Master Lock model, correct?

I know this is old but those little winches are beast and a nice little winch to have. Don't sleep on these. They can pull a pickup onto a flat bed as it's 6k lbs rolling pull; It's slow but it does pull it up safely.

got my harbor freight atv winch on sale for $50, it pulls stronger and faster then that winch but not portable by design, i'd have to design some kind of portable mounting which would probably be worth it because a winch that slow would make me crazy......

Thank you for posting this review. very interesting, one comment if I may, the two legs dropping down the inboard end of the trailer to secure your new ball mount extension, may well creep up and out of position under heavy load. a creep preventer pin of sorts may be needed. Top job..Cheers from Michael. Australia.

He could just install 3 bolts in the bed to slide the winch on with no brackets or other hardware needed, but he sorted it out

Think it can pull some bigger but mostly dead bushes up?

Yes. For sure. A good friend of mine used this on a peninsula to move downed trees, uproot roots, etc.

My cable gets tangled when reeling in. Is there a way to avoid that

Maybe try twisting it some when extended, if worse, twist the other way some more.
