Am I the only one who was fed hyperalimentation via TPN? I was anorexic in the 80s at the age of 14 yrs old in 1986 through 1989. They fed me by placing a line in my superior vena cava (vein that goes to the heart). Every movie always shows people getting fed by a tube feeding via nasogastric tube. They wanted to avoid pumping a bunch of food into my stomach and intestines. You're hooked up to IVs for electrolytes as well if you don't get it by TPN. I still have cardiac and GI issues because of anorexia. They never show the hair loss, skin changes, intolerance to cold, aching body, shortness of breath, changes to teeth, etc. It's always the same. They don't eat, family notices, they pass out, NG tube, recovery. You never see the truly ugly side.
Feeding tube to your heart? How does that make sense to do? NG tubes give nutrients directly into your stomach. That’s so curious they used to do that, I didn’t know
@@charlottemonroy3372 It’s not a feeding tube it’s a central line. It’s like an IV but more permanent. Central lines either have to be surgically placed or can be done at bedside it just depends what kind you’re getting. There’s different ways of receiving nutrition, TPN just so happens to be intravenously. NG tubes go in your nose or a G tube can be placed surgically. There are many different kinds of feeding tubes and central lime.
TPN is still used in some situations, but as long as the patient has a working gastrointestinal system generally feeding tubes are used instead because TPN comes with a high risk of sepsis, a potentially deadly infection.
I completely understand this. I work in a kitchen, have medication I have to take, get told I’m extremely skinny, smoke and used to have an eating disorder. At this point it’s my medication making me forget to eat.

The thing that DOES discriminate are treatment facilities The vast majority of them deny accessibility for men over 25. By law everyone is entitled to healthcare, regardless of age or gender. It's always baffled me how they get away with their discriminating policies.
This was hands down the best film I have ever seen. It was very realistic and it was impressive how you could make the viewers sympathize with the characters, considering the length of the film. Giving a male character the disorder did not only break the stigma of only females dealing with them, but it also broke the stigma of females always understanding eating disorders/supporting them (supporting weight loss or diets no matter how thin the person is) . Recently I've been getting very triggered by seeing others dealing with eating disorders (for context I was hospitalized in february) and this really made me remember that everyone who deals with EDs are their own persons with their own lives. This movie makes it so clear that the persons dealing with the EDs may want to recover, but it really isn't that easy. Thank you for this masterpiece 🙏

The short film was good however the title wasn’t so good. The whole feeding tube = ED stigma is damaging. At no point does the guy with an ED have a feeding tube when in hospital he is intubated and the tubes you see are breathing tubes. I mean I guess there may be an attempt of portraying a nasogastric tube in the left nostril however the tube is very clear and not connected to feed or really go anywhere and plays such a small almost unnoticeable role in the film. It makes me angry that so many people portray feeding tube use just for eating disorders or cancer when that is so wrong and it’s misinformation. I’ve been tube fed and intravenously fed for 10 years now as my stomach and intestines don’t work. This is caused by gastroparesis which is linked to EDS (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome).
To show the dynamics of a codependent/enmeshment relationship for people with eating disorders. Usually people with EDs feel like they lack control over their lives, so they take control by developing extremely restrictive eating habits. The one thing we can always control is our own bodies. It showed that she was overbearing, and that he was likely repeating the same relationships that he had growing up as a child. His mother and/or father was also probably very controlling and overbearing and there was probably very few boundaries as to where his wants/needs began and theirs did. I have had anorexia since I was 14 yrs old, recovered at 19, relapsed at 29 yrs old, and am relapsing again at 50.

Your body is not a bin so dont waste it
Your body is yours and no matter how it looks it will always be beautiful
Your body is the only one of its kind so dont chnage because of other people
Your body should not go to waste
So dont change your body just to fit it in with someone elses taste
Honestly, as someone who's struggled with sh, this really just makes me laugh. I know it has a positive message, just the comparison can be silly
@here.we.go.again__2679 I've struggled with mental health and I made jokes to my friends comparing my wrist to a cutting board and they thought it was rude and careless I thought that it could either make someone think twice before giving themselves some nice new scars or make someone's day batter but I like your interpretation of it
Umm what if you need an operation? Can I be used as a cutting board then? Just, cause otherwise my body will be going to waste….
@@ThatPersonK // I meant don't harm your body for no reason
@@SILYGOFYCATI’ve heard this so many times it just makes me laugh too as someone who had been to the psych ward over 3 times for various mental health problems
That was so mean to embarrass him like that at dinner
I wouldn’t eat with those people either. 😑
the ending made me cry 😭💔
Beautiful Production by the way.
Bro music goes on literally 5 seconds in girls need tearing up tf
Beautifully depicted.
I will openly say I have BED (Binge Eating Disorder)A lot of days I feel really gilty about eating the way I do and I don't wanna eat anymore but I do and regret it.
This was so hard to watch 🥺excellent acting and production but geez, this was rough.
this is such an accurate short film the mom made me so mad
My social studies teacher was in this at 15:11 . His name is Mr. Oppenheim
That's amazing! We loved working with Steven (Mr. Oppenheim)!
@@kjpictures105 yes! He showed this to us during class during one if his stories he told. I have an eating disorder like the guy in the video (I don’t smoke, though) so when he showed this to us I felt happy that there was a boy main character guy instead of just a female one because that’s all I see usually
Smoking makes me less hungry. Im 14 and have gone weeks without food. I am studying biology and am well aware of it all.
Jesus loves you turn to him and repent
@@John-ls4xhyo that shit does not help to say when someone is struggling💀it’s basically like saying “you have a hard time with life is terrible and your doing everything wrong” Christians are so annoying with bringing repenting into everything that it doesn’t need to be brought into
honestly i wish i could do this but i’m too scared to smoke
Well done!
This is a beautiful film but so sad ❤
i wish people could see how pretty they are being themselves
WOW powerful.
I cried.. omg this is so good 😢
What was those pills he was taking?
I’m assuming amphetamines, they suppress hunger
Can I get them over counter?
^^these are banned in my country unfortunately
Very well done!
GREAT JOB!!
The anti smoking message feels a bit random and unnecessary but other than that this was so well made
why tf she keep talking over him
To show the dynamics of a codependent/enmeshment relationship for people with eating disorders.
@@jenx5870 I agree but doubt it was actually that deep
love this so much😍😍
AMAZING!!!!!!
Whole family’s crazy. Major red flags from the gf. Home boy needs to RUN.
Did the heart monitor sound in the end mean that he died??
Well done!!
Yeah, this is where eugenia cooney is gonna be soon...
This was a good video
The acting in this is so bad lmao
I hope the dad gets out of there too
SO GOODD
Wow that whole family needs help.
This would have been so much more powerful without the music.
You don’t give a presentation on something you haven’t been thru. Tf is wrong with the gf? A lot more is wrong with her than her bf…
Award winning, why?
@@lucyyyyy100 , Yes individuals with mental health issues is on the rise, so I can understand why some could connect. With that said, still question “Award winning”
Wait dude he died ???!😢😢😢
no, this is a film
@@zebra-kt2gqin the film he died, yes
The acting is poor but the premise is very good. I just wish this was done better the acting and editing is pretty poor. Also I’m not sure why they called it Feeding Tube? I get the link with AN but there’s no feeding tube just a breathing device. One for his mouth and one for his nose lol. Just a bad quality film with so much potential
It was a low budget indie short film. I know a lot about it because my teacher was in it as professor kern (guy at 15:11 )
His friends were the directors so he told us all about it. His name is Steven oppenheim, but we call him Mr. Oppenheim.
Maaannn the dad's chin is to die for

That chick is pissing me off!
