This is one of the most subtle and beautiful twists. In my mind, maybe the dancing twin did feel a pinch for a moment as the working twin touched the fan blades, but we see that she was never injured or truly harmed, at all. A revelation about intention is made. The working twin has, in fact, taken the spotlight for a moment -- not in an act of malicious hunger to "please mommy," but to grant her beloved sister reprieve from that suffocation. They were a bonded pair, all along, not spiteful or jealous of each other, but a true team in the face of an overbearing, narcissistic mother.
So she wasn't really injured, right? She was just pretending so her Mom would stop breathing down her neck all the time. Good for her! She should do it for herself, not her Mom.
Maybe she noticed the peaceful life her sister got after being injured and followed the lead? Sure it looks like her mother is achieving her life dream through her daughter... Very toxic.

The ending was sweet. The dad got to see his daughters enjoying life together. It was a special rare moment. They grow up fast. Be sure to take in every moment you can.

This goes from being horrifying to being wholesome. Anyone who has lived in a family like this will understand what it is like to be towed around by one person who manages to make their lives hell if they don't live up to their expectations. As a result, everyone is in survival mode. What a great ending!
My mom wants everyone in my family to be academically successful and is just like the mom in this film but for grades. She has told me multiple times that “school is your only job” forgetting about my own hobbies which is required to achieve thus academic success. I understand what your saying completly lol
Yup, my mom is like that. Her catchphrase is "I'm the only smart one in this house. You're all disappointment. All you have to do is making me proud and you can't even manage" 💀
I had a guess it was Canberra because of the nice panoramic shot at the end, such a neat and orderly looking city. I remember walking around the city centre late one night in the mid 70's and there was not a car or person to be seen which was quite strange for a lad that had grown up in Melbourne. I had an odd feeling that I had been shrunken and placed in an architects model.
@@1kallay At 5:19 you can see Telstra Tower in the background, which is why I knew it was Canberra. It's quite a nice city. I've been there four times I think. Very different to Melbourne, that's for sure.
@@andemaiar I've only been there once and it's funny you should mention the tower, I hadn't noticed it. I was in the army and stationed in Sydney and we went down to Canberra to do a 20 round Artillery salute for a visiting overseas dignitary and we stayed at Duntroon military academy overnight. Not long after we settled in we were called for assembly and told to get changed into sporties then the boss pointed to the tower and said ''see that tower, we're going to run up there'' to more than a couple of quiet groans I can tell you. It was a great view from the lookout though. All the best.
That's a beautiful sight at the end dad looking over his beating equally talented loving girls and and that sky line nothing couldn't make a person prouder .
My grandmother's like the mother, your her favorite until you do something wrong and she makes my cousins and I compete to be her favorite. I refused to do it so I'm no longer important to her. I'm her only granddaughter and I once heard her say that she doesn't have a granddaughter.
This is such a beautiful twist film the ending is so meaningful it's sad to see how the mom just want to rely on her daughters and that just cause them to separation and to see how they still ended up finding what they truly want which is doing what they like together just makes me cry
This is a good example of how a lot of parents put too much pressure on their children to be involved in activities that they really do not want to be involved with. The parent is trying to live his/her dream through their children. The parents are more concerned about showing their children off to society more then being more concerned about the child as an individual person. I know of a lot of fathers who want their sons to be in sports and do well, and if if they do not want to be involved in sports, then the father has very little social interaction with them. What a shame. This is why the sister in this short film pretended that her arm was injured, because he got tired of her mother putting so much pressure on her. This is a great film. The Bowtie Professor/Professor Yecats!
It always neat how twins have that "connection" with each other. I watch the Conservative Twins and they often cut each other off saying the same thing at the same time. Pretty cool.
This so easily could have been me and my sister. I’m very lucky to have a mum who treats as individuals and not as prizes, even if my sister IS a champion winning dancer and I’m just a retail worker
I think the sisters helped each other , the sales one helping to break muscle memory, or to make the fall believable to the ever watchful eye of mother
This is so beautiful. The ending made me tear up a little. I’m an only child so I’ve only experienced the bond that twins have secondhand, but this is a beautiful representation ❤️🥺
Finally free, able to be themselves, without having to suffer to prove that the sacrifices of their grandparents were worthwhile. That is why people give up so much for their children, so that they can be free to live their life and be happy, not to pay back the past. Our grandparents who fled and suffered to find freedom did it so we could eat cake, not so we could live a strict regime.
Anyone else notice photo of the girl's injured left arm? Instead of pushing both the mother fixates on the sister who can still fulfill her desire to win. I believe it the first sister did injury her left arm and was no longer able to compete. The photos seem to indicate the injury happened fairly recently. Several people have commented on the fact the second sister fell on her right side but seemed to be grabbing her left arm. Her recovery at the end seems to indicate no permanent damage. Was she disqualified for the injury only or because the time for recovery would keep her from the games deadline? Now that both daughters no longer can fulfill mom's dreams, will she leave them alone??
From the very beginning, the whole family seemed tired. This mom was draining. The sister competing in gymnastics is cheeky as hell. Everyone is just tolerating moms helicoptering and momaging. I'm glad they get a chance to bond in mischief together. The best ending.
This remind me twin girls from Kazakhstan , in the karate championship they have to fight to decide champion instead they played rock-paper-scissors winner became champion

The mother character is the perfect depiction of narcissistic behavior. The grandiosity, the love bombing and using her daughters achievements to draw the attention to herself. Perfect. So good it could be triggering to some. 👌
Wonderful short film, but also sad. Unfortunately some parents do not appreciate the wonderful and healthy kids that have and ruin everything by making everything about themselves. Thanks a lot!
As a twin, I would say its always good to be different from your twin for your own mental health. But then again toxic parents might favour another for some reason.
Ive been through something like it. I played basketball since 6, and at 10 started playing in a important team till 18. But my father wanted me to play more for his own, than for actually seeing me enjoy. I had to handle an enourmus amount of pressure all the time and just like that, u started hating the sport i loved the most and was meant for.... Im 34 now, so playing profesionally its just a dream that i left behind just at the moment i decided to leave it, study, and work. I dont blame him, but i would have wanted it to be different.
Such a great movie. The mum reminds me so much of my grandmother when I was a classical prodigy before I got sick. Really sick, not pretending to escape the pressure… but I totally understand why one would pretend. Now my brother with his perfect daughter is the favourite. And he hates it as much as I did. Sometimes being the black sheep is for the best. Love this baaaa

@Laaiba when you’re an overachiever, you end up setting goals for yourself that are either mentally or physically draining. Sometimes both. It’s good to set goals, but everything in moderation, you know?
Welshie here- I have that too. Can't even have a delivery without having the 'rents on my back Thing is though, we don't all become over-achievers. It's the one, for example here: the gymnast, who is. That's my sister. The other girl, who I am, doesn't bother and has seemingly low self-esteem because of it There is nothing wrong with over-achieving and of course it's brilliant to have such goals as long as it's healthy. But many of us give up because the helicoptering makes you question the point in too many things

The dad was definitely my favorite ! And the routine was beautiful! Wonderful acting and precious ending.
I loved the "twist", showing the love between the sisters. So beautiful.
When Velika was watching her sister from the kitchen window, I almost thought it was actress Joey King.
I did too! Gypsy Rose!
@@ellenlederman5209 yup. I figured others would see it too
Me too!
The actor was in hsm3 if I remember correctly
The twins do resemble Joey King a little.
Underrated comment
Yup, my mom is like that. Her catchphrase is "I'm the only smart one in this house. You're all disappointment. All you have to do is making me proud and you can't even manage" 💀
It's a rare opportunity, as a rhythmic gymnast, for this unknown sport to be featured in a video that isn't targeted for rhythmic gymnasts to watch
aw thats very nice
Great to see an Aussie one, filmed in Canberra! A touching story with a good lesson in it. I really enjoyed the music.
Kinda noticed it was Aussie made by the way everyone was talking and the environments
What is the name of the song velika dances to?
That's a beautiful sight at the end dad looking over his beating equally talented loving girls and and that sky line nothing couldn't make a person prouder .
Her still finding the joy in dancing, now free of the mother’s judgement- great short
Lmao the mum is so invested that she had to use the f word to describe her daughter’s injury and started crying. Oof
Absolutely wonderful story beautifully told. And I just adore the relationship she has with her coworker at the spa. Well done!
Parents are usually the cause of sibling rivalry.
My grandmother's like the mother, your her favorite until you do something wrong and she makes my cousins and I compete to be her favorite. I refused to do it so I'm no longer important to her. I'm her only granddaughter and I once heard her say that she doesn't have a granddaughter.
Wow.
That's sad.
That ending brought a damn tear to my eye. Beautiful!!
The ending was AMAZING! Seeing them dance together shows the love the sisters have for each other. Loved it. Thank you. 💖
This is such a beautiful twist film the ending is so meaningful it's sad to see how the mom just want to rely on her daughters and that just cause them to separation and to see how they still ended up finding what they truly want which is doing what they like together just makes me cry
Here goes another mom whose trying to live her life through her daughter's...
I feel for her... I had a ribbon twirling accident in the finals back in '93. Ruined my whole life, never been the same again.
They were funny when they were just the Hodgetwins and left out all the political nonsense.
Parents living out their fantasies through their children are so pathetic

They are so cute, this film was really good 😭😭😭
Thank you! This is so precious! And so badass of the dancing sister to just turn her back on her mom's expectations to be with her sister again.
This so easily could have been me and my sister. I’m very lucky to have a mum who treats as individuals and not as prizes, even if my sister IS a champion winning dancer and I’m just a retail worker
Do you ever feel jealousy?if so how do you cope?
9/10, I liked it more than I thought i would, the themes and message were good and i loved the ending. Overall very solid with good acting throughout.
I think the sisters helped each other , the sales one helping to break muscle memory, or to make the fall believable to the ever watchful eye of mother
The employee of the month picture on the wall saids it all.
The hug at the end.....PRICELESS.
You know your family dynamics is off when you're crying and nobody is comforting you.
This is so beautiful. The ending made me tear up a little. I’m an only child so I’ve only experienced the bond that twins have secondhand, but this is a beautiful representation ❤️🥺
The one twin that legitimately did hurt her arm in a competition gave the other twin the idea of how to get her mother off her back. Brilliant.
I love the gymnast and her handling is so good
Finally free, able to be themselves, without having to suffer to prove that the sacrifices of their grandparents were worthwhile.
Tun tun tunNNNNNN
Sounds like a trailer
From the very beginning, the whole family seemed tired. This mom was draining. The sister competing in gymnastics is cheeky as hell. Everyone is just tolerating moms helicoptering and momaging. I'm glad they get a chance to bond in mischief together. The best ending.
I love this story, so well shared. And I love the dad and his support of the two daughters. Thank you for this story.
who else dosent want to pay for netflix so they binge watch omleto instead? 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
meeeee
If you ring Netflix to cancel saying you don’t watch enough to warrant the money , the suddenly can cut it by half , quite amazing
@@christinebeames2311 idk, it sounds sketchy
her sister faked an injury so her sister wouldn't have to feel like nothing and she could be appreciate, that's sooo sweeeeettt :)
I love how they both just supported each other till the end
This remind me twin girls from Kazakhstan , in the karate championship they have to fight to decide champion instead they played rock-paper-scissors winner became champion
Aweee!! The ending was extremely sweet! I love how they get along so easily in the end of the video!!😭😭💓💓
The mother only cares and gives love if one of her daughter is a winner. What a horrible mother!
That hug and giggle at the end is like serotonin
Holy s**t!!!!!! That was awesome 😮 it is truly incredible how quickly the energy shifted and how the tone just explodes with love understanding and honesty with the simplest removal of the sling. In an instant I went from pitying them to full on admiration expressed by beaming and cheering...this is why I watch movies and this is more Thani could've hoped for in a film.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
13:04 love the matching costume choices
in the beginning i was like "thank god i don't have siblings."
but the ending man, it made me cry.
amazing job.
Spinningly fun, clever and witty and touching. The director Alyssa McClelland is so talented. I just checked out her other shorts "Nic & Shauna" and "Emilia Eckle" and they're soooo good too! Cheers!😊
Dance and smile for the people you want to dance and smile for.
I love the ending. The dad was the chilist one there
The mom is such a typical Karen. Favoring one daughter over the other and living through the gymnast daughter!
This is great. Parents do sometimes make their childrens accomplishments more about themselves in a reflective manner.
She just didn’t want to live her mother’s dream whilst her sister won the competition with her own self inflicted suffering away from her mother’s influence and manipulation! Good piece of work
Thank you
The mother character is the perfect depiction of narcissistic behavior. The grandiosity, the love bombing and using her daughters achievements to draw the attention to herself. Perfect. So good it could be triggering to some. 👌
"it's OUR year" just made me want to SCREAM lol
"Pass the bread?" = "enough--this has been played out"
it seems like the mum is living vicariously through her daughters ugh
At the end she did the performance for her sister, the only one who truly deserved it for been employee of the month. Beautiful message.
❤️
The sub-plot with the co-workers was great. Karma bites. Also, twin ESP rules. Sorta 😄
I see Raechelle from “Home and Away “, I click.
The girl has the worst customer service, no wonder she never made employee of the month.
That is literally not the point...
@@mamarobyn it doesn't matter and neither does your comment.
The ending made me cry 😭❤
Such a great movie. The mum reminds me so much of my grandmother when I was a classical prodigy before I got sick. Really sick, not pretending to escape the pressure… but I totally understand why one would pretend. Now my brother with his perfect daughter is the favourite. And he hates it as much as I did. Sometimes being the black sheep is for the best. Love this baaaa
The sport girl has a really strong soul to make such a free powerfull decision. Great story
That dance at the end was so cute
The lead actress used to be in Home and Away...Great story here.... Thought provoking as always..
In my opinion Vivika was on screen more and so her actor was the lead, whereas it was Nouchka's actor who was in Home & Away.
Ok I know the mum was messed up, but those little spa cupcakes are adorable!
Where I live, we have a term for this called 'helicopter parents' because they 'hover' over their delicate little porcelain-doll children. Those kids end up being overachievers.
That’s what I am .
@@nerdgeekcosplay909 shame :'(
Ya I had to prove myself!
@Laaiba when you’re an overachiever, you end up setting goals for yourself that are either mentally or physically draining. Sometimes both. It’s good to set goals, but everything in moderation, you know?
Welshie here- I have that too. Can't even have a delivery without having the 'rents on my back
Thing is though, we don't all become over-achievers. It's the one, for example here: the gymnast, who is. That's my sister. The other girl, who I am, doesn't bother and has seemingly low self-esteem because of it
There is nothing wrong with over-achieving and of course it's brilliant to have such goals as long as it's healthy. But many of us give up because the helicoptering makes you question the point in too many things
Whoever made this, did a stellar job! Details and photograpy are so accurate. It almost doesnt need words.
