    I'm having the same issue you described with an Alocasia Polly. Purchased from a big box store,gave it a little time to acclimate itself, then put it in water for 3-4 weeks. It grew water roots and I put it in Pon. It's actually two separate plants and it's putting on two new leaves, but losing two! Maybe she's a member of the "one in, one out" club. I'm really interested to see how yours does.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  8 месяцев назад

      oh no! Polly can be finicky so definitely can see that. The low variegated one I got did well but I had it in stratum before pon. Not sure if that made a difference or not. My regular polly might have struggled a little at first too - I think it took awhile for it to actually start growing 🫠

    Hi Melissa, I currently have 9 Alocasia with my 10th in the shipping process. 😆 I’m highly considering transferring into pon but I’m not sure how much to buy. If I buy the 5” self watering pots that you have, how big of a bag of pon would I need to get?

  • @carolebyrd588
    @carolebyrd588 8 месяцев назад

    When you put things in stratum, do you have to put them in a cabinet? I don't have a cabinet for any of mine.
    I have so many questions..

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  8 месяцев назад +1

      Nope! No need to have a cabinet at all - just as long as they can get some light. My stratum can dry out quickly so depending on the environment I might have to water it more often. My cabinet is very warm so I'm usually watering them every 4-5 days.

    Hi Melissa, I love this video and learned a lot. I just have a question if you would be able to answer- do you always plant the alocasia s from stratum and then to pon? Is it possible to move alocasia from moss to pon? Or would you move it from moss to stratum first ? I absolutely love these plants. Thank you❤

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  8 месяцев назад +1

      I've moved mostly from stratum or water first then to pon. I've moved some anthurium over from moss and they did well. If the roots seem okay and they didn't get damaged too much from taking moss off they should do okay but you can definitely let them sit in stratum for a few weeks if you want to me more cautious with the transfer.

Quería saber si le haces hueco de drenaje a lo que propagas en vasitos de plástico. Tengo demasiado problema con las alocasias. Cómo se me estaban poniendo feas hice un sustrato de musgo y perlita y no le hice drenaje pero luego pensé que se me podían podrir las raíces y les hice un hueco. I love your repot videos! I'm about to repot my own BVP alocasia, and so nervous to touch it! I may have missed this, but do you use fertilizer/silica/nutrient solution after you repot it into stratum? Or just water, since stratum has nutrients (I think) already?

    I remember you wanted to do 30 or 50 plants in pon, have you counted how many plants are now in pon? I have also seen wildfern grow one of her alocasia in soil mix in a self watering pot and the plant was doing lovely, would you ever try that?

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  8 месяцев назад +1

      I honestly am scared to go back to soil again for alocasia after all the fungal issues I had last spring 😭 but I'm always open to try things. I still have several more plants to move over to pon but I probably have close to 40 now. I have a couple more alocasia, philodendron and maybe another 1-2 anthurium. Pon has been so nice for me because my space is really warm especially in summer. Now that my collection is so big with all the shop props I care for - I tend to underwater more often now so it really saves me.

    Hi Melissa! Question about your pon. Are you using fully rinsed pon so you can fertilize with your H2O? I know they sell both types of pon. One being the fertilized one that has the slow release. Love all your videos and have learned so much!! Thanks! ❤

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! thank you 🥹🫶 This pon I rinsed myself but it does have the fertilizer in it. I fertilize right away now because I underfed a lot of them when I first started with pon. There's no way to know how much slow release granules are in a particular pot so I'd rather the plant get enough nutrients in the beginning. You can go in at half strength for a little bit if you're worried to overfeed ☺️

      @lovelylady_plantlover79 @suzetteaboud8014 Thank you! I'm going to make a pon video soon with all my tips/tricks and everything I have learned and I'll do a step process with my water too.
      1 gallon jug of filtered water:
      I use 0.5 mL of silica (power si) - I let it sit for about 15 minutes
      Then I add Cal mag which is 5 mL
      I do about 5-7 drops of the stress coat
      Then I add my foliage pro fertilizer (production dose 1mL)
      I usually let all that sit for a little bit after giving a good shake then I check/adjust PH - I usually bring it down to a 6.5
      It's a lot I know and it takes a little bit of work up front but I make about 6-7 gallons up at once and water then I usually have to make a second round to get to everyone. You definitely don't have to do this all and I'm sure the plants will be happy with just the fertilizer but I'm so happy with this routine now and the silica is definitely amazing stuff.
