It still blows my mind how well designed the whole Weltron 2000 series was. The 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2010 are just pur genius and to this day look in credible in any space no pun intended.

These are awesome. I bought two of the Weltron 2001 8-track players back in the early 2000's (about 2003) and paid $45 for one, $65 for the other. I bought them off ebay under the impression that neither worked. Well, they worked good for awhile. I played the heck out of them and unfortunately the 8-track player itself broke in both space helmets. The radios still worked, so I took a regret and sold them the same year. I wish I had kept the white one I had. My other was a cream color (faded from white due to the plastic discoloration). Although I had been self-taught as an 8-track cartridge tape repair lady, I simply couldn't find anyone on the internet who fixed these Weltrons. And I wasn't about to service a Weltron I knew nothing about (electrically that is). Otherwise they are extremely fascinating 8-track players made in Japan.
Years later I discovered that these awesome looking 70's futuristic space helmets were designed with inferior components and thus very, very difficult to repair. Also, the ampage in these Weltron 2001 8-track players is very, very weak. For example, if you hook up any set of 70's speakers other than the Weltron space orb speakers it was originally designed to take, then you run the huge risk of blowing the circuitry completely.
From 2003 to the present I never happened upon another Weltron 2001 8-track player locally. I'd definitely accept another space helmet Weltron, but likely would refrain from using the 8-track player as often as I had. Once the radio quits in a Weltron 2001 8-track player, then they're practically impossible to get working again due to scarcity of parts and supplies for this particular brand. The Weltron 2001 8-track player was popular from 1970-1972. This was partly due to the "Space race" and the moon landing in 69'. 😊
If you love Weltron, you're going to enjoy the JVC videosphere from the same 70's era. They were space helmet designed, could be taken everywhere with a heavy chain, and suspended from the ceiling. I only seen an orange JVC videosphere in 1995 in an antique store. It was the most awesome thing I had seen besides the past 8-track players I owned at that time. Back then I was a teenager with extremely eccentric tastes for vintage stereo systems (nothing past 83' for me), and impressed by all that early 70's era had to offer with futuristic home atomic age decor and space age looking stereo systems. 😊 and yep, I was totally unpopular in school. But eh, whatever. I was electic and unique. 🤷
