- Tich Mataz gives an indepth no holds barred interview covering everything from his days at Radio 3 to his superstar lifestyle in SA as well as his deportation and more #radiobop#5fm#wozaweekend#tichmataz#bmw#matazconnection
As a South African I will always love and respect Tich Mataz . The man was and is still a beast behind the mic , I listened to him at 5FM and watched Woza Weekend with the late Bra Fats . This man changed the landscape of radio and was and still an inspiration to many . Tich laid the foundation . Much respect to him .
I wish he had migrated to the UK or Canada and give it a go..Zim was always going to limit him..

This HAS BEEN YOUR BEST series so far, hats off. Talk of class and eloquence, Tich Mataz remains undefeated. I enjoyed watching a mature interview with valuable content that I can relate to. Well done Denny J and Team for this one🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
Point of correction, Nelson Mandela was released o'n 11 Feb 1990, so Tich can't say he was *On Air* in SA unless he meant Inauguration in 1994.
He is one the best Radio Personalities that South Africa had been blessed with.Matambanadzo
@bonganinkomo3916 you are correct!
Man there are so many life lessons oozed out on this episode.
“Kana Poto Ichi Boiler Usarwisane Nayo”
TICH SHOULD BE AN AMBASSADOR FOR OUR COUNTRY. TOO MANY ZIM PEOPLE DISRESPECT THEIR OWN COUNTRY, SUCH A SHAME.
Interview is different and better without RunG, she gets out of the aesthetics so times, no shade
Wow. Love this!!! I have so many comments on this.
1. TichMataz is a legend. PERIOD!!!
2. He is speaking facts!!
3. He is a good story teller. He reminds me of Rocqui. Learning some history.
4. Love Denny J but Run G would have grilled him more.
5. Love this show. Welldone Denny j and team.
Rocqui is a clown ndozvakamutadzisa kuende mberi
I love this show, I feel involved as a Ndebele because its accommodative to all of us Zimbabweans even those who dnt understand shona well, they mostly use English which makes it easier for me to understand and enjoy the show.. Thnku guys, u doing great. U make us remember how beautiful zim was back in the day. Zim our home I miss it.
Zim is missing u go home
Zim Ndebele
“ when you do business don’t use your persona cause when people attack the persona they attack the business” so true!!! 👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽
True legend ,not zvana DJ Towers.Ask any old school DJ in Mzansi they will tell you how he transformed radio. Please Denny J continue to bring real legends not the so called social media legends.
Tawas anotemwa nemusoro
Go to botswana the will tell you Tich & likes of Otis made radio the bomb in BW
Maaka. He came as a small boy, an ordinary person in Bop. Fool those who didn't see you when he came here!!
@@waipona940 then he blew up didnt he?
Neva mention DJ Towers in the same line with Tich Mataz again
SA for SAns Zim for Zimbabweans. Let's not cross boarders into SA and cause shit and cry xenophobia. Let's fix our own. Just yesterday Zimbabweans were shooting at police here in Joburg. It's embarrassing for us to keep crying "Xenophobia", "One Africa" when we are the ones who spit on the hand that feeds us. Let's be fair when we talk about these things.
mac G should fly tich to podcast and chill for another interview!!!!
Mac g here is another episode for you
I can relate to what you guys are discussing. I used to listen to Zimbabwe Radio 3 FM back in the days (1984/85). By then I was living in Livingstone - ZAMBIA. I remember names such as Kuzy MARUZA, Josh MAKAWA, etc. I also used to listen to Radio BOP from Boptaswana, I think on shortwave radio. Please pardon my spelling for all the names.
I subscribed because of this episode. We grew up to Tich here in SA. We miss him.
First got to know of Tich back in Mafikeng in the early 90s when he was at Radio Bop.
His wife Penny was equally good as a a radio presenter in our local gospel stationRadio Sunshine. Those were good days. Thanks for beautiful memories Tich.
❤
Nelson Mandela was released from prison on the 11th of February 1990 not 1993,He became the first black President in 1994,just a point of correction Tich🤷♂️
This guy made our childhood 😅..ama 2k can’t relate.
they will never relate
Wavo ndi Dj towers 😅🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@gazathugrashad59 kkkkkkkk useless dj
Tich looks good for 53 his kept himself well
I like it with Denny doing interviews, he is more composed and allows the person who is being interviewed to talk...... think Run G is good when there is no one being interviewed and there is just social commentary ....
I agree Run G has poor interview skills at times disrespectful and unprofessional
Yep just saw the Shadaya interview. It was terrible.
@@dailybrandzw on that shadaya interview she lost it ..she is an emotional wreck, rude and unprofessional as a co host
This series touched me yaall don't know what Tich meant to us this guy is a national treasure he may have made mistakes but at his age he was young he showed you could leave Zim and become someone Im in the UK inspired by people like Tich he was a real superstar his wisdom is priceless his life should be documented chronicled we need a movie for this guy we have lost alot of big trail blazers lets give these icons their true flowers
Good shout pa movie apo. This was our celeb of the 90s. We would run after this mens BMW in town as school teenagers each time he came back to zim.
Well said. Him and Peter Jones, Felix nganjowKudzi marudza and innocent tsuma.
We need documentary for them
Guys, this was an epic interview. Your guest had a chance to really chat "without cutting him off". But I must say, DennyJ has some balls man, some of those questions I mean Damn!!! 😂😂😂
I could feel the respect towards the legend
The best there can ever be. I am reminded of the days back in the early 90s. Tich was the magnet on radio Bop at Mmabatho (Santa Barbara) as it was known. An inspirational guy and he used to drive past the Unibo gate on his way to the Bop Studios. What a guy. Glad to see that you are still going strong and all the health and continued greatness are my wishes for you and your family.
Those were the days! He is one of the guys who took Radio Bop to new heights. Him, Glen Lewis, Bob Mabena etc. We used to look forward to the parties at Bop Tv Flats😂😂. The bashes at Cook's Lakes, Letlamoreng Dam etc. If only we could turn back the hands of time. 😂😂😂😂
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview! Has to be the best this far. Tich Mataz was allowed to talk 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Denny you did an amazing job 🔥🔥🔥
Tich was BIG in SA...the man played an important role in building this country like any other politician who are so highly regarded in SA...
Did he how with what did he build SA
Correct but of who to what yesterday tomorrow today always and never. You feel me?
Tich Mataz ducking and diving. We wanted to hear more about his SA story.
He was deported for being illegal in SA.
Tichi your history started at high School tichibvutirana mabhuku tisana kupedza homework, and then we decided to call you Razz Matazz bse your dancing at School discos was so unique, you grew up with the talent and God lifted you up. Big up to a true Star and personal friend .
This man knows how to dodge questions lmaaoooo
To be honest i really enjoyed this episode, Mataz giving a historical journey of Radio in Zim & giving bits and pieces of wisdom
#Legend !! One of my favourite presenter and personality. #PeterJohns,#Katsande,#MunyaMilimo,#Kevin,#Comfort,#OtisFraser etc
Man I loved this guy as a kid back in the 90s, he used to have a show called "woza weekend " with the late Fats Debeco, their chemistry was unbelievable! I really miss those days
Wooooooza Woza
So much better without that daije shouting and flexing that she made it through American customs.
This episode really resonated with me. Especially starting from 1hr 10mins up to the end. Some really mature stuff right there, these are the topics we must be focussing on in Africa. Africans must tell their own story. Well done Denny J. But chiregai kuwunza maclowns ana tawaz vaye
This was an informative interview, mistakes or no mistakes Tich is a legend in the entertainment industry.Made radio something to look forward to when we were youngsters.
IAM the one. Who well come to zim mataz connection. Sahara 1998 Sahara vijy
Big up to the Jiro Brothers. These dudes been at the forefront of urban culture in Zim since my high school days. South Central , Badd Bwoy, clothing now broadcasting. Respect 👊🏽
Chitown flavour
Respect Wangu
Wait!! No freaking way! South Central was BOMB! I remember coz I was in form 1 when they hit Ximex Mall. Veduwe ka, South Central was a piece of USA pop culture smack in the centre of the Capital H.
Them dudes in the shop looked like a USA catalogue kunaka kunge vanhu vapa TV! It was the place to be. That’s when I learnt that men wear perfume, had pierced ears, wore expensive jeans and American Brand sports shirts… and spoke with a posh twang!
Ah kwabviwa kure folks! Yoh! Nuff respect ✊🏽 🇿🇼
Is it just me or panekahu Philip Chiyangwa pana Tich, hameno kuti ndiani mentor wemumwe pamatauriro 😅

Thanks for having Tich on the show. Most, importantly you didn’t have that lady (co-host)👏🏿👏🏿
You guys were soft on tichi
My mother ❤ called me Tich Mataz but my name is TICHAONA I was born 1998
good episode, good thing the wanna be black american girl was not there, otherwise it would have been messed up. ana fally nana towers vamai interviewer havana kana basa.
Legend of our media. I remember growing up just admiring the way he spoke. He has aged well
The Ultimate Legend of our time. Pls ask Tich to mentor these small minded Zim men that have congested our country. Tich&Dennyj =top classy Zim legends ❤ ya'll
Say it again Tich set the bar too high
Awesome episode, next bring Tonderai TK Katsande 💯
Oh goodness 🙆🏽♀️, is that our Tish, I used to watch him when I was a teenager during the 90s, we loved and really miss you brother. So great to see you again. Thanks for Denny, much love brothers❤️
Thanks Danny J and team this is good stuff I'd actually pay for content like this , plz bring more cool cats like tich mataz
Tich is delusional, tactfully dodging Dennys questions whilst trying to remind us how cool he used to be. he was also preaching a lot of cliches and extremely vague . i feel like it was a chance for him to tell his story in detail but now we will remain with his tag as a tsotsi who was once a legendary DJ
New subscriber from 🇨🇦 Partied in Joburg way back to Tich in the early 90s. Nobody did it better. We love you Tich❤️
Thanks for bringing the Legend and giving him his flowers. I really like your Show Denny J. Keep up the vibe guys
Tich Mataz is such a glamorous, flamboyant, well-articulated (eloquent) & somewhat ostentatious geezer…he churns out cogent & compelling arguments- kudos to him👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽!
The anthropological specimen of identifical plumage habitually conglomerate in close contiguity........ 😂😂😂😂😂
Lol can't believe l spent an hour and so in a parking lot watching this...Great stuff gents..Tich is indeed a legend
one hour manga muchi deleter mamessage henyu mudhara, kwete podcast,
Tich Mataz still looking young. Enjoyed listening to this guys. The guest had time to respond without being interrupted or being told, "I lived in the States."
Tich is not a scammer his a confidence trickster
its better without Run G find someone else
Great show! True legend indeed. Thank you for bringing Tich!!
He is smart and witty !!
Dude enjoyed his life in SA ..
Dude travelled to Prague to watch Michael Jackson live..Wow.
Nice conversation gentleman that captured my attention. Very motivative.
Great stuff Denny J, brilliant interviews. However I am quite concerned to hear of xenophobia in Zambia, haven't heard of it, please clarify so we can pick it up with relevant authorities as we don't need that. I am Zambian and have Zim friends and relatives, I ve seen nothing but love here.... One love💞
Munhu akambopisa uyu. Yoh! You had to experience it to believe it.
Tich, what a fountain of knowledge man. And it's true he could have opened his radio station or a media house
Dammmmmm i grewup on this guy😅Wooooooooza wekend its really great to see him fresh again this is really great and feel blessed thank you guyz We have mad love for him here in SA
Zvazviri se zvazviri🔥🔥🔥……best episode thank you guys I literally just re-lived my childhood 🙏🏾
I'm 53 a South African, I grew up watching the flamboyant Tich Mataz. It was so bad when he was deported.
I enjoyed this show. My biggest take home is that when you are at the tip maximize. I was wondering why Jnr Brown was like " I'm feeling like Tich Mataz Kuma 90s " then I watched this show and realized what the Fuss was about. Everyone knew Tich. He had his chance and he did well, he could have been bigger but he did his best with the mindset he had at that time..... definitely a legend
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅,,,,,,,Tichaona Matambanadzo .This guy was /is talented .I use to listen to him Boma 90s to 2000
This podcast and its format is a very good idea. Spotify has just paid Joe Rogan 75 million US dollars for his podcast content. I see this going very far if they monetize and manage it properly.
$200 actually.
Zvazviri hahaha give Tich his coins guys they will never be and on repeat l mean never be another Tich Mataz.I mean the whole of Southern Africa , the only other person l can put close to this man is Bonang Matheba...Get it and go argue with your dogs aah.
Nice interview....enjoyed this one, maybe because Run G wasn't there....please do more interviews without her, zvinofamba bho.
Zimbabweans, stop sabotaging each other's success. We never uplift each other. As soon as one of us does well, we think of ways to bring him/her down. Strive Masiyiwa is arguably one of the most successful Africans the continent has ever seen. He can't even live in his own country. To succeed he had to leave Zimbabwe and pick his friends, colleagues etc. very carefully. This is the truth of where we are... We love to destroy each other 👎🏽
I cant believe Tich is as active as he has been. When I listened to him in the 90’s-early 2000’s I thought he was just new and fresh, but listening to his time line 🙌🏿.
I think Tich was the first black person at 5 FM in the early 90s.
Big ups to the Legendary Tich Mataz...great interview
Things are more entertaining when that loud chick is not around . Dai
Tanzwa nenoise nhasi
Zvazvine order pasina RunG...
Great show! Do you guys do entertainment only? Would love to see leaders in industry as well- those that have unique stories. Eg Fortune Chasi,
Tich should have invested more in Zimbabwe, mwana washe murandakumwe, lesson learnt Apo.
The only disrespect is that Towers sat on that chair before the King sat on his throne Tich Mataz is King
we missed run g in this episode, there was too much respect between old buddies, nothing out of Tich's comfort zone was discussed.. we need run g!!
Facts 240k house in SA will be 5mil in Zimbabwe
I used to listen to bra Tich on 5fm. I'm glad grootman is still doing well.
This guy was not being genuine at all
Tich was a mega star in SA, really wish he could have stayed. All rounder of note.Glad to see he's doing well after all these years.Great Interview.
Man I remember Mataz ku Rosebank we had so much fun.
I heard Mataz nightclub was huge ?
@@lindokuhlegumede3495 yep he started off in a big marquee tent?.
Could have stayed how?xenophobia & he was bigger than a lot of native SA stars .They were not having it.
I love Run G In some Interviews however am glad she was not on this one. This gave Mkoma Tich time to respond. I would have loved a different lady on deck who could have maneuvered from a female perspective but hey. This was 🔥👏🏾👏🏾
I think jealousy among his South African peers led to his deportation. TICH WAS LOVED BY A MAJORITY OF US SOUTH AFRICANS, infact most of the famous so called radio jocks copied his vibrant style umona phansi!
Radio 3 FM, the best to be remembered. Not anywhere in Africa will they produce the quality of radio DJs like Tich Mataz, Peter Jones, LMK, Kudzi, news readers like Joseph Madimba, Tsitsi Hove, etc. O my goodness, we teenagers grew up on Radio three.
Aya ndoma legends not this other BS we celebrate today. . Back in zim we just didn't know how big he was in Sa . Only until you crossed the border into Sa and saw the man on tv and radio. .we were enclosed and not exposed to the outside world much. This series could have had part 2 easy first gig he had ,memorable moments. Clubs apisa back then fun stories etc.
South Africans wen they talk about djs Tich's name always come
Please keep this calibre of guest for future shows.
i think we could have gotten more from this interview. im going to subscribe to this, but... guys be organised on questions, jot them down, have a strategy. he was willing to share guys
I beg to differ, Tich talks a lot seems like it’s hard to lead him he wants to lead and answers questions in a very sneaky manner when asked controversial questions
Tich is speaking the truth, we need to start to showcase movies and content on our heroes in Zim, i mean pour money into building proper production companies coz just the Mutapa story told with a good quality and given a proper production budget will bring in millions or even billions through sales and even boost tourism. It aint all about mining and farming but proper content can rack in proper money. This man is full of wisdom
Haai Tich, Bophuthatswana has been broken down into 6 provinces not just NW: Free State, North West, Northern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga & that Mandela thing must be referring to the first democratic elections in 1994, not Madiba coming out.
Beautiful interview though, great to see Tich
What a legend on the show..Tich is always my role model and I got so much respect on him..Great interview there whereby Dedza been professional as always and gives the guest more time to talk without interruptions
Tht other lady needs to take a leaf from this episode of the podcast!!
The Tich Mataz interviews by Denny J & So So Profound were quite an eye opener.
Register to vote we need more tv channels and radio stations like youres for the whole Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
This took me back to my teenage early adulthood days nice interview
You can also check his interview on SoProfound RUclips but he is jumpy on deportation from SA on that channel too....
why do yall look alike ...TINASHEEEE MUGABEEEEE.....LOL...great interview fam ..kepon keeping on
Good interview, but I wish I could understand Shona. We miss you in SA, Tich.
The liqiour brought out that international feel
where the buckets at . Boss run where is she ! All good tho Denny J
Salute. This is it right here. You allowed the guest to speak and the respect was mutual in all parties
ya - run G talks too much
I love you man # Tich Mataz, the man with the midas touch
i think denny j on his own is top quality keep that lady of this show if you can this is 🔥
I love having her ♥️
Tich is a power house and needs to contribute in media at executive level.
As a non Shona speaker, I really enjoyed this interview.
Great interview...It was more of a friendly catchup than an interview. It needed a bit of Run G to tackle the controversial and uncomfortable questions, we could have gotten more out of Tich.
