I had the exact same issue, and I followed the info here and replaced the capacitor, and the issue is fixed. Thanks for the post.

Hi. I just wanted to Thank-you for posting the capacitor problem in the base charger! I have a Roomba 630 that was showing ERR5 also and after replacing the Cap it's alive again!

Thanks a lot. Wish I would read this before buying a new battery.
And just remark - I measured capacitor after removing it - it was aprox. 110uF. This leads to 3 possible reasons for this problem: 1. designer mistake (usually designer must put twice higher value than required to compensate aging); 2. Capacitor parameters doesn't correspond to marking; 3. Capacitor temperature environment is too high (higher most of the time than normal which is supposed to be 25C). So, when you buy replacement buy the one with temperature grade 105C, not the one for 85C. And if you find higher capacity in same form factor - better use it (of course voltage must be 35V+)

      @@stoyansurchev That's really good suggestions.
      Appreciated.❤️

@@jkk040 In fact, after thinking a little bit more my suggestion for designer mistake must be discarded. On my side problem appear recently (let say 1 month ago) and we have this Romba for aprox. 10 years. And since it appear soon, it means it worked well to at least 150uF, which means triple capacity reserve against aging, which lasted 10 years - good enough by any standard for such an equipment :)

Just replaced the battery and got the error 5, just took out the capacitor and it measured 200uf, not good, so a new capacitor installed and now on test.

As a follow up, it has fixed the fault, I checked both of my Roomba chargers and the second one was fine with the capacitor measuring 465uf, but I replaced both. The faulty one had a slight bulge in its top.

    Hi,
How did you know it was the capacitor and not the battery itself? Thank you.

Have you seen this video beginning to end?
I described in the video that other video showed exactly same problem I had...😅😅

Changed the capacitor as suggested and it immediately blew.
