  • We chose the shortest route possible to get to Northern Ireland because Jenny has suffered bad seasickness in the past and also we didn't want Poppy our Westie to spend too long in the motorhome. Our first trip to Northern Ireland for both of us. We took a short journey to Curran Caravan Park just a few minutes from the ferry terminal.
    ▶ PLEASE NOTE: We chose the shortest route possible to get to and from Northern Ireland because Jenny has suffered bad seasickness in the past and we didn't want Poppy our Westie to spend too long in the motorhome. The crossing took 2 hours and cost £367 return, which we paid three years ago. Poppy was completely unfazed by the crossings, which she spent snoozing in her travel crate in the motorhome. At the time of filming (08/09/2022 to 25/09/2022) although Animal Health Certificates are required, we didn't get one because no checks were being carried out on pets being transported to and from Great Britain and Northern Ireland since the Northern Ireland Assembly suspended checks in 2021. No human passports are required because the UK and Ireland are in a common travel area, but it advisable to take them with you as a form of ID.

      *Transderm Scōp* is your friend if you suffer from motion sickness.
      I get really nauseated in cars and vans, but with Transderm scōp {from doctor} I could travel literally hours in a van , work a full day, then be a passenger to Fishguard for the night ferry {Rough to moderate} to Rosslare, collect a large item , then get back on same ferry and be a passenger in a van for hours...no nausea at all! {I can feel motion sick travelling into town on a bus}

    It was interesting to see the Cairnryan Ferry Terminal. When I lived in that area, the ferries to Larne sailed from Stranraer. That was a while ago. There was a ship breaking yard at Cairnryan and I remember that they broke the old Ark Royal there. Changed days. I hope that you have an enjoyable time in Northern Ireland. Take care.

    Lovely video and I get Jenny’s trepidation. We, like you have dogs. The only thing that worries us is the fact that we have relations in Southern Ireland and we are not sure if they need anything? If you think about it if you live near the border you maybe be crossing over several ones with your pet and surely you can not keep producing documentation. Perhaps our vet could advise us. Guy.

    Arrival by ferry to Belfast is a much better route in terms of a much newer Ferry and on board facilities. The Titanic Centre should not be missed or the new modern city. A suggested route to the Dark Hedge’is along the coast road through Carrickfergus with its castle then Carnlough , Ballycastle etc as this is one of the most scenic routes in Europe. I hope you enjoy Northern Ireland and that it’s beautiful coast roads , beaches , walks will be experienced. On the way back I would stay at Carnfunock country park in Larne , other sites that are a must are Castleward , Juniper Hill , Portstewart and Woodcroft in Newcastle. I hope you enjoy your visit.

    Really sorry to hear that Jenny was unwell. Hoppe she is feeling better now. The ferries from Cairnryan can be quite costly. Stenaline is often seen as the better. Although it arrives to Belfast port as I'm sure you know. Did you visit the Antrim Lough Neagh caravan and motorhome site? Hope you both enjoyed your travels here. Stay safe and drive carefully. I would be on that A75 frequantly. Often a very nice drive. I know of a man who brings dog in from Slovacia to to the Republic, Then crosses the invisible border to bring and sell the animals in the north, he then bring the animals into the UK mainland via P&O/Stena. The hazard check are the only checks which have been in place for many years now.
    The best way to help aviod sea sickness is to sit as close to the centre of a ship. Back to front and on lower decs. There is the near centre point so less rolling no matter how bad the weather.
