    I hopped a berm with a half shell and smashed my face into a rock missing my helmet entirely. I broke my nose in three places, chipped a vertebra, chipped a tooth, ended up with a bunch of stitches in my face, and a massive concussion. I only ride full face helmets now. I might look a little dumb trail riding but getting hurt like that again isn't worth it.

    I recently bought a Fox Dropframe and loving it. It is a very Snug fit, which for me adds to the safety. For me, it's very light and the Snug fit is not uncomfortable, but remind you you're wearing it. The openess around the ears, allows for good hearing, plus it gives me good peripheral vision. I normally ride with a full face downhill helmet, which gives you tunnel vision and lack of hearing. Not good when you're riding on gazetted roads and dealing with traffic. The Fox Dropframe, is my daily multi-purpose MTB lid these days. As I was using the Lazer Street Deluxe, I ride with on my Greaser roadbike.

      Two year late response but here goes. Motorcycle helmets use certain polymers on the shells and foams that contain oil to maintain their elasticity. Over years and with exposure to elements this oil dries out leaving the polymers and foam much more brittle and therefore less safe.
      I honestly couldn't tell you if bicycle helmets are the same, but I'd just use it as an excuse to upgrade every 3-5 years unless the manufacturer says it doesn't have an expiration.
      Extra fact, plastics getting brittle is the same reason baby/child car seats expire too.

      It depends. MIPS is loose in the fact that is protects by at least 20% in certain impacts, while a full face will always protect your jaw, no matter what. I'd go with the full face, if ventilation isn't a concern.

    • @DaveLowe28
      @DaveLowe28 4 года назад +3

      The idea is that the insides compact on impact to absorb the force. Because of this, the advice is to replace after any crash. In reality, you need to take a good look and make an honest assessment without thinking of the cost. If you've had that bad an impact as you say, then you probably should replace it regardless as you never can fully tell.

But also with a splash of vanity, like how cheerleaders and gymnasts don't wear helmets either. There's a subconscious element to not having a safety net that makes you protect yourself. When the slightest bit of fear is what sabotages you, confidence is everything.

    Everything functions properly ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of RUclips. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
