My phosphorus is always high. Can't wait to see what my new lawn does. Glad to see you guys are finally warming up a little. Lawn season is right around the corner.
Good stuff man! I think using the 7-0-20 saved my lawn from our big freeze. I had applied it about 2 weeks before the freeze, and once it warmed back to normal- there was still plenty of product available in the soil. Works great!! 💪🏻
That's great to know. Sounds like you dodged some potentially bad outcomes! I normally would pound the lawn with Nitrogen, but Potassium makes a lot more sense with a heavier nitrogen follow-up later on.
It figures. The year new granular fertilizers come out and I am going 100% liquid this season. Oh well experimenting is the name of the game. Well done Dino. New owners are lucky to have you as the prior owner :)
I started out this year with Flagship, then I seen Alan's video. I will start next spring out with stress blend. I did get a bag of stress blend to put out in the late summer and fall as we are usually in drought in the summer. I think I will hit the double dark in June and July
Good stuff! I will probably do one more granular application and then switch to liquid for the rest of summer or I may just switch to liquid, haven't decided yet. Just have to stay consistent.
nah I'm using the Flagship. As soon as we got some warmth (in SE Pennsylvania) my grass woke up from the fall feeding. She's ready. If my lawn was average or below avg I'd go with LCN's advice here.
The stress relief is a summer product...... it was formulated to reduce fungal stress and the lower nitrogen means less growth during the growing season....... The 24-0-6 appears to be a better spring product. For reason that spring turf is needing Nitrogen and will heavily feed..... Key would be % of slow release....... 26 N is high. 50% or greater slow release would be a great product.
I agree. But my intent was to slowly bring the lawn out of dormancy with the high potassium and lower nitrogen. I followed up with the 26-0-6 before I moved to give it that higher hit of N as things warmed up. The weather here has been unseasonably cool and the high N would have gone to waste since the Bermuda is just now stating to really green up.
@@TheLawnShark I understand the why you did what you did and your thinking behind it. From what you're saying....... you are doing a back to back application at a close interval.....and what I would think to be the same results from 1 application in spring. Consider this.... You first apply the 7 N....then a month later the 26 N......you are loading the N at a time when mowing can be a problem. Likely forcing a twice a week cutting or raising height and then again cutting twice cause the turf may not dry enough for the once a week cutting.......If you are looking for green and what would appear to come out of winter dormancy quicker..... There is a granular product called Ironite.... I am more familiar with a liquid, Ferromec.....though the 15% N is not a slow release. Although early spring, the grass most likely will not be vigorously growing to be a problem
@@genlan1 I totally get what you are saying and, to be clear, I really appreciate this discussion. That being said, keep in mind that "back to back" fert applications is a bit of a misconception. It was closer to 6 or 8 weeks, which would have been my regular interval for Nitrogen anyway. What I was trying to say was the Potassium was my ultimate desire at that point in the season to help with overall plant development. Also, "green up" was less of a concern because the Bermuda wasn't ready (and up until just now) to be greening up. Ironite is a great product for greening up once the Bermuda is fully moving. As for cutting, when I was living at that house, I averaged 3 cuts a week with my Greensmaster to maintain the super low height of cut I like. Things will be different at this new house since I won't have Bermuda, but such is life. Like I said before, really appreciate the discussion. It is good to hear educated opinions that make me think.
Hi, i am new seriously no idea what I'm doing. Bought a small bag for my townhouse in upper Illinois. Our HOA doesn't do a good job so i thought i would try this. The lawn is dry & sparce. What is the best time to start laying this down & should i lightly water after?
For any fertilizer you should wait until the grass is actively growing (not sure when that is for your part of the country). You should always water it within 24 hrs of application. Don't flood your yard, but a good watering for sure. Best of luck!
Great video, thank you! Northern Illinois, cool season grass. Usually my first feeding is when the soil temperature reaches 55 degrees, (beginning of May this year) I do a 3/4 lb N with pre-emergent. Would the Stress Blend be before or in place of what I'm doing? Thank you!
@@TheLawnShark Thank you! That's what I was guessing but wanted to confirm. Also, you mentioned linking to the Lawn Care Nut's video but I didn't see it.
Do a soil test and then you will know exactly what level of phosphorus is in your soil. My lawn showed a very high level of phosphorus so I would need any for years. The saving you will make on not needing phosphorus in your bag of fertiliser will more than pay for the test. And your saving the environment by not spreading phosphorus..
Cracks me up ... everyone is dropping Milorganite like a bad habit. Reminds me of all the videos on the latest car care products that everyone runs down to try.
Yup, as soon as they dropped from 36 to 32 lbs and doubled the price, I was out. I used to be able to find it for $6-7/bag, but I don’t even look for it anymore.
Anytime really, I just chose to go slow this time around. I always recommend a soil test before putting down a bunch of stuff, but nitrogen leave the soil pretty quickly, so something like flagship is a good thing to put down regularly (every 6-8 weeks).
That is fine. I would just add some Nitrogen. Maybe something that is a bit more balanced like a 10-10-10, but I would recommend a soil test before you add to much of the Phosphorus. In a month or two you can do something with a much higher nitrogen count. I like the Scott's liquid 28-0-3 to bring the nitrogen up fast. I will do a better review of the other granular I showed in the video in a few weeks.
Man I feel alone! We just got snow here in MN - Looking like I have to move! lol Good video - I was looking at the Stress Blend, I did purchase this year, and it has arrived. I also normally go a little heavier on the "N" in spring, usually like an 18, I usually have pretty good luck but I wanted to give the Stress Blend a try! New Sub, check out my stuff if you get a chance!
Thanks so much! I will definitely give your channel a look. Good luck with the Stress Blend. I used it again this year. That video will come out next week.
@@TheLawnShark I will check out your channel more also. I look forward to the content since Im in limbo right now! lol. I have lots of videos about soil health, ph, fertilizers and the such! Thanks again!
Put this down this past weekend. Walked out the next morning and could smell the success.
HAHA! Awesome!!! 😂😂😂
Spring is here it's go time !
Definitely! 👊
Just got some flagship my self! love those prills:)
Yeah, those prills are fabulous! Can't wait to see some results.
I just ran with the Starter after my soil test came back low Phos. Higher than last year but still deficient. Starting to green up here 😃

Your very nice to fertilize for the new home owners..
We just want them to have a great experience in their new home. Thank you!

Thanks Mike!
Still cold here in RI, cannot wait to get out there!! Good stuff Dino!!
Thank you! Yeah, I so glad the season has started. Still a bit cool here, but the Bermuda is finally starting to show some signs of life.
Looking fwd to trying the flagship
Me too! 👊
Going to order some of the same. Great video

Sorry about this, here is the Lawn Care Nut video... ruclips.net/video/Un0CDLO_EWU/видео.html
I'll add it to the description. Thanks.
Oh, and I did link the video up in the upper right hand corner of the video when I mentioned it. Thanks!
Great video! Why not use the starter fert 12-12-12? I plan on using that one this week.
Because it has Phosphorus in it (the middle number) and I am sure I don't need it. My lawn usually runs high, so I always try to keep that number "0".

It is, but it is also a good way to do an early feed because the higher potassium is great for overall plant development.
