Ruby Franke, the once prominent RUclips vlogger offering parenting and childcare advice, will spend at least the next several years in prison after she was convicted of horrific abuse against her own kids. Members of the Utah mother’s family are now opening up about the case. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber spoke with KUTV reporter Brian Schnee about her family members’ reactions.

watching the judge, the prosecutor, lawtubers, reporters say that they believe Ruby's Oscar winning (I thought it was more deserving of a Razzy) performance makes me sick. Ruby's little masterclass in manipulation is a disaster. I really hope she stays locked up long enough for E to reach adulthood. And Kevin ought not to be allowed near those kids either (he didn't gainsay the extreme punishments prior to Jodi so why would he be gentle now?)

Exactly! Ruby belonged in prison well before Jody came along! It's infuriating listening to News and lawyers blame Jody for Ruby's cruelty when it was Ruby who tortured hers and other children decades before Jody came into the picture and literally sought Jody out and even befriended her bc of their commonality of evil. Both Jodi and Ruby belong in prison and shouldn't be eligible for parole for at least 25 years.
I think Ruby had some toxic traits but the church/family has always kept them at levels that were distasteful (but not criminal). Then Jodi entered the picture and Encouraged Ruby to be her worst self.

Ruby’s sister, Bonnie, is the LAST person on Earth who should be speaking out on the matter, esp since she HERSELF has quite a nasty reputation for ill treatment of kids. So many of her RUclips vids had to be taken down re the same problem. Her cruel videos on the “blanket technique” amongst many others send shivers down my spine. Such a hypocrite

Bonnie did blanket training and did a video where she ignored her babies on a blanket and hit them if they got off to train them to stay for over 30 minutes so she could have her self time to take a shower or do whatever. I think the reason Ruby thanked everyone in the manner that she did was her manipulative way of trying to take “ control” of the situation. Also, she is trying to convince everyone that Jodi “ brainwashed “ her and that she is really not a sadistic child abuser. 9:30 i disagree, their cult has a history of mistreating children in "the name of truth". Ruby was harming those kids (with her husband) before she hooked up with Jodi.. it just grew significantly WORSE when jodi came around. I would assume the husband was emotional because he's probably realizing he was complicit in letting it get as bad as it did.. and perhaps is still afraid the courts will eventually start to investigate him and he could very well go to jail as well.... apparently he's trying to get custody of 2 of the "middle" daughters, while the youngest 2 are still in state custody (so its very likely he will be investigated)... imagine the additional trauma the two youngest will carry with of knowing their dad didn't protect them and just shrugged his shoulders and walked away previous to that he essentially agreed they deserved their punishments..... I hope he doesnt get custody of the two that endured the worst of it .

@@kemp10 Keeping the children together is not healthy right now. When the Franke's had their 4th child, Julie, she said she didn't want more children. Kevin wanted at least another 2. For a long time Ruby refused. In the Mormon patriarchal system, the man is head of the household and has the final say. Ruby caved in and had 2 more babies.
Kevin was a bully in the family. He made the rules and wasn't really engaged with the children. He eagerly participated in the punishment. Even though it was Ruby who was making lots of money from Utube, far more than Kevin earned, the big house, bank accounts and all their assets were in Kevin's name. Ruby owned nothing. He now lives in that house. He lost his job at Brigham Young University, due to the negative feedback from his students. They said he was cruel and insulting towards them.
Kevin should never be given custody of the 4 minor children. He would just mistreat them.

Yes , while he was still in the home he agreed to not get the 2 youngest children any Christmas gifts that one year. I cannot imagine not getting some of my kids gifts while watching the others unwrap theirs.

The sisters never said a thing about how much Ruby's children suffered, they only complain about how much their own families are suffering. They didn't even try to get custody of them after the incident. They don't care about them.
I went and got my great niece and refused to return her to her mother my niece was eventually charged with 7 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against her daughter. If they really cared they would have taken the kids and worried about the consequences later as I did . I knew I could have ended up in jail but I didn’t care as long as my great niece was safe child protection failed her.
First of all, they legally weren’t allowed to talk about rubys children. Secondly, you have no idea what they have done behind closed doors. I am sure if they were able to fight for custody then they would have. You don’t know their situation, please don’t allow yourself to be so close minded

I've NEVER heard of a sentencing like this. Are they hoping we forget about it in 4 years and just release them quietly? I mean, the entire state is mostly Mormon...so are they protecting their own? IDK...I've never heard of such a bizarre sentence basically saying you may be in prison for a short time or a really long time...what kind of sentencing or non-sentencing is that?

Years ago Ruby's podcast popped up in my feed( no idea😮), i thought she was a nut - could not watch longer than 2 minutes. Couldn't believe how many viewers she had , and how many agreed with her parenting style...years later here we are. Ruby appeared to be receiving a grammy award - individually thanking everyone involved in the arrest process, but never thanked her child for escaping and ending the nightmare for these poor kids...ughhh. This sister? Yeah , right🙄😒

I checked them out on instagram. One post. One of the sister told the mother she was pregnant - on the day when her mother left to serve as "missionary". So sweet /s (this was before Ruby was arrested.

Wait a minute. To say the sisters had no idea what was going on is just an untrue statement. Once the oldest Franke daughter became an adult, she moved in with Julie and spent time with the entire family including Bonnie and Ellie. They ALL knew what was going on as the oldest Franke child was fighting to get help for her siblings. Ruby's parents knew too and left Utah for the mission field just as the oldest Franke daughter moved in with Julie. Yet they still decided to leave.

Now, I will concede that they may not have known the extent of what was going on in the Hildebrant house, but they certainly knew something was wrong and that the younger kids needed help.

If you read Beau (her brother) letter to judge you will see he describes Ruby as an over achiever who gravitates towards authority figures and will dive in head first and give it her all (school, piano, RUclips, Jodi) ….Jodi was her new authority. Now she needs her supply from the legal system which is why she’s looking and naming the police by name in her statement… she’s no lo longer getting her satisfaction from pleasing Jody so she’s diving in and wants to be the “teachers pet” with the police and legal system…..knowing this she will prob get less time bc she’s invested in recovery but she needs therapy to stop this pattern , when the police go away who will be her next leader?

Why didn't she do anything for the kids? The elder daughters who had left already, said they were relieved when the police finally turned up. Why did the adults in the family, like Ruby's sister, not address the matter? I'm asking as a kid who had to couch surf (basically homeless) from the age of 14, after my mother died. My father hooked up immediately and was married 6 months later. Since then I was effectively homeless. Thank goodness I wasn't a toddler and helpless. I had a bicycle, I had school, I had a job and I had friends. But why did the adults in the family not say anything? Instead I could see them chatting with her, very cosily about how hard it is to deal with another woman's child. Believing all her lies about me. That was like such a deep betrayal. I dared not whisper a word. My dad had been warned by his new wife that "that child" (me) would tell tales in an effort to drive them away.
I have no time or sympathy for the adults in Ruby's family. They did nothing. The kid had to save himself and his sister by escaping and running to a neighbour.
I would not trust any of these people. CPS needs to investigate the entire family.
She didn’t choose not to go to trial to apare the children from having to testify. She is a psychopath who did not want to go to trial and have those children reveal for themselves the trauma and abuse she perpetuated in their home. She is a person who should never be allowed to “counsel” anyone ever, or run a business that has to do with mental health.
