    The part he is not telling you is that his phone is already connected to a WIFI AP that is connected to the wired network that the new AP is going to be connected to. You need to have an active connection to the network you are adding the Ubiquiti device to. If you try to connect directly to the Ubiquiti AP it will always give a "Can't Connect Error". Once it is set up you may then remove the original AP/WIFI Router. Note that new U7 Pro has WPA2 and WPA3 enabled on all networks by defualt. This is not usuable by many 2.4GHz devices (Google Nest devices, most smart bulbs/switches etc.). Enable "WPA2 Only" for compatability in the UniFi app.

      Probably overkill but I have 2 x Ubiquiti UniFi 6 Long Range Wireless Access Point, WiFi 6 installed in my recently-ish built 2 story house, 1 on each level.
      When we moved back in, for ease & speed of set up, I set them up as standalone mode using the app on my iPhone.
      About a month after setting them up I did download the UniFi Network application to my PC but from everything I've read I'll need to reset the APs to adopt them in to the network so I haven't done this yet as they're working fine for generic internet access, by devices in my home - 10-15 devices total.
      The other thing I've also gathered is that I'd need to leave the PC on 24 x 7 to gather stats etc, which is not something that happens.
      So really for me the standalone option is good for domestic / home use even if it was a bit of expensive overkill.

And once configured it ONLY works if it's wired to the other Wifi router. How do I configure it WOTHOUT needing another wifi router?? Your video seems to describe the process but it simply won't discover it by itsself

When i go the iphone Apps, i only have option to "configure a new device". Cannot use webrowser either. The AP is working fine. Maybe the latest firmware prevent such customization.

    Cody, thank you very much as this technique worked terrific. Frankly, I hate the UniFi controller because it attaches the AP to a specific laptop with controller. Our company has several network technicians and any tech may need to troubleshoot a device in the field. I think there is a way to detach controller from a working device and leave AP functional, but I've never been successful. This is why I avoid UnFi devices.

      Vee, sadly no one answered your question. The version UniFi controller I used had a software switch to enable mesh capability. So I think you must use the UniFi controller. The controller is free so give it a try. You can set up multiple units with the same SSID/password, but doubt they will mesh when only one has Internet source.

    • @OrvilleScott
      @OrvilleScott 2 года назад

      @@johnpoldo8817 So you're saying the Unifi APs NEED to be wire connected to something, like a router or controller, in order to function? I can't just use them as nodes in a Wireless Mesh System?

    • @johnpoldo8817
      @johnpoldo8817 2 года назад +1

      @@OrvilleScott if the Ubnt model has mesh capability (ie UAP-AC-M-US), it does not need an Ethernet connection to Internet. But signal is limited to one hop. You can’t chain two or more of these in series, but may have several repeaters on one master in a star network. Our company has installed over 50 of these on multiple networks.
