The weapon storage is actually a callback to the original toy. G2 laser prime (and by extension rid scourge) had the same weapon storage.

That's a pretty solid idea. Not sure if it would scale down for deluxe-sized figures without making the plastic too thin. I guess that could be remedied with some extra reinforcements molded in.

Except Copy Convoy, the black repaint of Lio Convoy aka Leo Prime from Beast Wars II actually predates Car Robots Black Convoy/RiD01 Scourge by a couple years: BWII came out in 1998, versus 2000 for Car Robots and 2001 for RiD01. (Speaking of which, it shocks me that Takara didn't bother to do a Copy Convoy repaint of their LGEX Lio Convoy...)

As a Scourge fan myself, I was quite disappointed when the deco was revealed at first. But then I thought to myself: Do I always need the exact same deco layout on a Scourge? Especially when I compare him to the Siege Nemesis Prime or others from before (like the Takara Legends release of Titans Return Optimus as Scourge). It has definitely grown on me. That being said... I wouldn't mind Takara doing a Car Robot / RID 2001 accurate deco.

I was super stoked when this figure got leaked. I was google searching for announcements or leaks months ahead in hyperanticipation. It wasn't AT ALL what I was expecting when the PvP leak came out. But by George, I fell in love with it.
I pre-ordered it on on Pulse, but it hasn't arrived yet. I saw "scourge" while looking for Cosmos at my local Wal Mart, and picked him up. He's wonderful, and I'm so glad I got a spare because I found him knocked over and had to glue a smokestack back on.

Maybe I can repurpose this guy into someone else, but I'm a lot more sold on the deco than I was originally and it frankly doesn't look as bad as I thought, thank you so much for making this video and helping me move past my nostalgia stubborness XD

The only shortcoming I saw with this mold was how they left off almost all of the ranged weapons from the trailer compared to the original toy. The figure from RID had a disc launcher, an air launched missile, and a spring-loaded 5 shot missile rack. This guy gets one claw arm and a tiny gun. But you can work with it by plugging the Micromaster combining weapons into the ports inside the tanker.

If they ever sell this figure again as a more accurate RiD Scourge (which I think would make sense later down the road), then I'll certainly buy that. For now, this figure suits my needs and still looks awesome. for those who desire a less pink look for this guy, and have both versions of this figure, there is a stupid easy part swap you can do.
all you have to do is remove the flaps on the shoulders that cover the fake missiles, and then the flaps below those that sit right next to the chest windows. they are both on friction hinges so it's easy and safe.
after that, there are 2 small screws on each shoulder that you then have to remove. you can then remove the piece that has the fake missiles, and repeat the process on the other figure, then swap the pieces.
after that, scourge will have the grey shoulders instead of pink, and the pink shoulders actually fit in well on lazer prime!

ya know, if there's one thing that irks me about the mainline primes, from like siege to legacy, it's that thing where the arms are just a big stubby. It's a really slight issue, but it's one of those things where.... I can't tell if it's that his biceps are just a tiny bit too short, maybe his sleeves are just a little too wide, or his hands are too small, I can't tell, but it just always looks to me like optimus is wearing a jacket that's just a bit too big on him..... Actually, I think it has to do with his abdominal section too, like below his window pecks... it's just a little too small, too short, and it makes him look like he's really high wasted. I feel like that's a harder problem to solve, but if they make a new prime mold ment to look like g1, that's the change I really want to see them tackle. It's weird, when earthrise prime came out, I think we all felt like he was the perfect prime, and I still like him, but in the face of legacy... I could use a new normal prime, which I'm loath to say because not that long ago it felt like we were getting a thousand optimus primes, and that's always kind of been an issue, and usually a new prime signals a new... well, everyone. Maybe Studio Series can make an 86 movie prime eventually, with some fun movie props like a big orange metal spike you can stick in his tummy to relive the childhood trauma of watching your first tv father figure role model take a mortal blow that eventually kills him.... Me? No, I'm fine (sob)

I know nothing of this character and saw it at walmart months ago and liked the color scheme but passed because of price. Recently I found it at Ross for $15. I really dig it, it has a very vaporwave color scheme.

Hey Toy Guy, it looks like your Scourge and my Scourge came from the same damaged mold. Both our figures' heads have the same exact chippings in the head crest's vent.

I’m just happy to get a great looking Nemesis Prime. Last Walmart Nemesis I never saw in person. The colors have a nice pop and the black makes this mold look much better then Laser Prime.
The fact it is Rid 2001 Scourge is an awesome bonus. Next we need an RID Optimus.

I was wondering what method you had in mind for fixing the awkward shoulders? I’ve had this figure since it first launched, and it still bugs the hell out of me.

  • @Tannerbot2k

For me, my issue with this mold is that the massive shoulders don't move. Because of that, the toy doesn't feel as dynamic as it should. The G2 laser prime feels better, mostly because the shoulders don't get in the way of posing the arms.

His color scheme is okay, but I want the RID version. He costs too much to let "good enough" be good enough.
Plus, these days every "good enough" toy gets replaced. Galvatron, Soundwave, Ironhide, Mirage, Siege Megatron, Siege Prime, ER Arcee, Kup, Starscream ... and that's off the top of my head. So I'll just wait. And if it doesn't come I still have the other Black Convoys I own.

That anaemic crotch/waist design is what kinda kills the bot mode & gives the illusion of disproportioned legs, love the deco & overall design otherwise - it's a winner.

  • @SwiftpawWolffox
    @SwiftpawWolffox 2 года назад

No, it is not bad. In fact I think the mold wears the Scourge/Black Convoy deco better than it does Prime's. And from what I understand the color/deco tweaks are more in line with the original Takara release (like the inverse G2 Autobot emblems) than the Hasbro one, which does liven the appearance up a bit. Still hoping we get a Toxitron. Maybe a Buzzworthy redeco eventually? They seem to be able to use the more exclusive molds that way as long as it's not the exact same character (like Netflix Bumblebee and Buzzworthy Goldbug both being the VW version).
Some people complain about the shoulders being seperate pauldrons from the arms. While their lack of rotation can be annoying, as someone who has the (reissue of) the original G2 Laser Prime, I can say this is also a bit of an improvement. There's less issues with posing the arms when you don't have to try and counterbalance angling backwards two large towers.
The trailer is also more interesting than Earthrise, both in the appearance in the trailer, and the transformation being a defense turret and barricades rather than a one big flat open space. There is a notch on top of the claw arm that you can tab the shield/axe on, with the handle out like a gun barrel. I the pair of leg sideguns from Siege Ultra Magnus (who I don't use them on) into some of the ports in battle platform mode to stand in for the other weapons the original had that this one doesn't.

I think the deco looks nice in a vacuum but my problem with it is that it just isn’t even trying to be Scourge. It’s very clearly trying to be the Nemesis Prime color scheme but if they wanted to do a Nemesis Prime they should’ve just called him that. I’m hoping they do a Gen Selects or Buzzworthy Bumblebee version of Scourge later on that actually uses his original color scheme.

Where did you say you got this guy again? Outside of a handful of figures I find that the bigger size transformers almost never make it to stores near me.
I love Scourge. He's the og Nemesis Prime. I'm a little bummed his colors are not completely show accurate but it's not too different to be unacceptable. I feel that 80 dollars for a leader class is not too bad.

It may be closer to nemesis prime in look, but overall I enjoy it, and it still looks like RID scourge close enough without needing a bunch of grey, but I can see why people wanted it more accurate.
