Slight correction to the ling bane explanation at 38mins: +1 attack doesn't allow banes to 1 shot zerglings (banes 1 shot lings naturally). +1 carapace on lings allows them to survive a bane hit, but that is nullified if the banes also have +1 attack. I know this isn't news to Lowko, but wanted to clarify.
Uhm, the caster didn´t introduce himself therefore I don´t recognise him. If only there was a caster that told us his name at the beginning of every single one of his videos so I wouldn´t have to remember...
So, you kill the creep tumor in a professional match because Lowko says it benefits your mirror opponent more than yourself? I am gonna try that progamer move by killing my own pylon in the gold league match!! Look ma, no pylon!
44:00 so, it takes about 25 seconds (rounding up a bit) to transfer the workers from the main to the gold and about 6ish seconds to transfer from the main to the natural. Using Lowko's cited 0.8 minerals lost per second and subtracting the lost mining time traveling to the natural from the travel time to the gold, there is 121.6 minerals more minerals lost going to the gold base compared to just getting a natural. given that once they start mining, the gold minerals are +40% more efficient than regular minerals (7 mineral per trip instead of 5), but there is only 6 mineral veins in the gold base, so 2 drones are working at half efficiency, this is the expression that determines how long it takes to break even on going for the gold base: 121.6 minerals lost / ((0.32 * 6 full efficiency drones)+(0.16 * 2 half efficiency drones)) = it takes 54.28 seconds to break even on the investment in the gold base. Lambo pays off the gold base at the 3 minute mark in the game, around when Lowko points out how juicy of a base it is. a fully saturated gold base with 12 workers makes 5% more minerals per second than a fully saturated blue base while also using 4 less workers. Lambo takes roughly (very roughly) 3 minutes to set up his attack largely uncontested with his base. In that time, he collects 180.9 more minerals than Serral, saves the cost and larva of 4 extra works for +200 more minerals and also saves 4 supply from the workers, which saves him half the cost of an overlord for +50 extra minerals saved. Lambo arguably won the game because he had 430.9 more minerals of stuff, and more stuff beats less stuff. Moral of the story; do not let your opponent get gold bases up uncontested.
Did the gold base rush maths: A gold base provides +5% mineral income for 4 less worker supply and 200 less minerals invested. On a game-standard (2 drones per patch) saturation that's 42 per cycle vs. 40 per cycle. If you go up to three per patch that's 63 per cycle vs. 60 per cycle. The average mining rate for 3 workers on a blue patch is 102/min, or 143/min for gold. So on a fully saturated base that's 816/min for blue vs. 858/min on a gold. That means every (real-time) minute you get 42 extra minerals. All workers cost 50 minerals and take 12 in-game seconds to build, which is about 10 real-time seconds. Needing less workers means you saturate about 40 real-time seconds faster on a gold than a blue base, and saves you 200 minerals. It takes around 12 extra seconds for the worker to make the trip to the gold base (on that map, at least) which means that saturation advantage drops to 28 seconds, plus you lose about 10 or 11 minerals in lost mining time during the travel. So the initial advantage, once you saturate the gold, is 28 seconds and 189 minerals. Assuming you both stay on two bases up to one minute after your opponent saturates their natural, you'll have 600 more minerals available than them (ignoring the minor impact of a later overlord due to 4 less worker supply). The tricky part is the harassment. When you lose one worker on a patch with 3 workers, you drop around 20% of your mining rate for that patch, because the third worker only contributes half as much as either of the other two (40+40+20 / 40+40 = 80%). If you rebuild the worker instantly, you lose 50 minerals plus 30 minerals in lost mining time. So that's 80 minerals. The next worker loss will impact you differently depending on your race. For Zerg it's a flat 80 again for a second worker on a different patch, assuming larvae are available. If it's two workers on the same patch, and you don't redistribute workers immediately, that loss turns into 106 minerals (186 total for the two) due to the greater mining impact of the second worker. For Terran and Protoss there's a greater impact as you lose more workers, because they build sequentially rather than in parallel. But this is balanced by the fact that using larvae for workers means fewer larvae for army units. It's complicated but it roughly works out at around 4 workers before you're back breaking even. The real factor is harassment. If taking the gold base means that your opponent can deny mining time for 3.1 seconds more in any given minute than if you took the blue base, you've mined fewer minerals from that base than you could have by taking a regular base. If they manage 14 seconds of denied mining time, but no worker kills, you've lost the 200 minerals you saved by building less workers. If they can prevent mining for 29 seconds in total (with no worker kills) during the time you're saturating the base and the 28 seconds afterwards, you've lost all advantage from taking the base and are actually losing. A worker kill counts toward about 6 seconds of that, so two dead workers and 15 seconds of denied mining is probably a net loss for the gold base taker after you factor in the extra attention required.
32:42 indeed the difference between the top 4 Zergs in the world: Serral, Reynor, Rogue and Dark and everyone else is astounding. Much more than the other 2 races as well as in general.

Hi Lowko, i often have trouble finding how i can watch the different ongoing tournaments on demand, here on youtube its very nice to see espacialy you and some other casters to cast some of the high light games. But sometimes i wish i could watch entire tournaments here on youtube. Could you make a video and explain how to find tournaments and where to watch them? I would be very thankfull for that!
Damn Serral took a beating. That was a great ZvZ. Also nice to hear how well Lambo does. He is one of the OG German playera that started back in Wings of Liberty :D
39:07 ("I do not like this") I think Lambo anticipated zergling reinforcements there and wanted to intercept them before they get out of the natural so the lings can work on the 3rd. Either way, did not work out.
Holy shit, forget controlling, in the third game i couldn't even comprehend what happend at the end... And heaven knows i even rewatched it a few times...

I feel like Lambo should've gotten more credit/focus throughout this series. Especially in the Oxide game, in the Ling/Bane skirmish at the beginning, his APM gets up past 800 numerous times.
20 seconds off minerals for the walk to the gold, you lose 40/minute for 2nd saturation of patch, so 13.33 minerals. (8x = 116.66 total) Getting 56/minute on the gold mining, so you'd regain those lost minerals in about 50 seconds.
