    Charming charming charming!! The architecture of your half cape is incredible. I'm fascinated by the beans and wide plank floors above.
    The new look enhances everything. Beautiful. Thank so much for taking us along!!❤❤❤

      You are so welcome Stephen, I'm so happy you like it. Yes, the beams are amazing and the wide planks are VERY wide, I think it's almost impossible to get these today as the trees are never allowed to grow this large. We also have markings on the ceiling that I've been told were from old ships, as some older houses did take advantage of such wood, but one never knows. I wanted a harmonious color story thruout, but still with variation, I did not want a Brand New Designer look so I had to walk the balance of that with some new things and quirky old things thrown in. Next, I'm planning on getting framed up various prints of my work for the place, that will be This Summer's challenge in between guests haha. I hope you are well.

      I'm glad you think so, I really think the cool tones with hints of warm (I'm always looking for that blue of the sea that has hints of green in it) really give a good ground for the warm tones of the wood of ceiling floors walls and furniture.

      YES, I hope so. I bought one for our bed at Bunny Hall, to test it out, and it's heavenly to us, so hopefully to others as well. It was a hectic Spring last year, all new bedsteads AND mattresses and many new furniture pieces, hubby and I were busy! He took his holiday and we spent it on doing some of those things, but in the end it paid off I hope.

      Thank you so much! Yes, this was why I got behind and then ended up not filming and sharing videos the rest of last year, I put a LOT on my plate, plus I was also working on things at Bunny Hall and getting my own artwork done, so I just hadn't time. BUT, this year I am determined to fit filming/sharing into my busy days. One trials and errors and hopefully learns. I'm glad you enjoyed my endeavors on the cottage.

    A few years ago I saw one of your videos where you did a little tour of Sandwich and went to some antique shops. I was very inspired by that video. I had been living in Northern New England for many years and needed a change.
    Two years ago I moved down to the Cape and think I've found my 'spot'.
    Thank you for being such a good tour guide.

      I've actually been letting them grow dense for a purpose haha, in the interim it does look a bit unkempt, but I'm planning a dense hedge with a hidden garden inside. As it's on the road I want a quieter sound for guests. When I finish it I'll shore the inside secret bit :)

    • @DonnaDavisArt
      @DonnaDavisArt  5 месяцев назад +1

      Actually, that is going to be this years project, I'm going to get prints of various bits of my artwork and start placing them in Old Kings, I'll share it as I do. It'll have to be done between guests haha, but I might even put some of my new little characters I love to create in there. Somehow they seem as if they'd be at home in Old Kings. And I've returned to seascapes lately so those as well. I Hope to share that and more making of my art in the future. As I get settled into the Summer, rental season underway, I can steal away to my Summer Studio and hopefully film and share some art making as well.

    Artists have the best eye for color and how it can work out in so many ways. Love your little cottage.

    • @DonnaDavisArt
      @DonnaDavisArt  5 месяцев назад +1

      How kind of you to say so, for I surely approached it as an artist haha. In March of last year I tore the place up, things all willy nilly and had plates and pieces of old furniture with paint samples taped here and there trying to get the right blue/green balance to harmonize the warm tones of the wood. In the end, I am happy with the colors chosen. It was probably silly to do things like paint the ceiling in the large bedroom separate from walls, but I really wanted that snug feeling and I think it did work.

      Yes! Thank you! Yes, this color story was 100 percent inspired by history AND my love and view of the sea. Even tho Old Kings doesn't view the sea herself, I wanted those tones there and of course it's not far too the sea from the cottage so the inspiration still seemed appropriate.

      Isn't that the truth! It's a labor of love we tell ourselves, but we often get dirty in the undertaking. Hubby did some help with our plumber to save money and had to crawl about in the old stone/dirt floor cellar this Spring. But, in the end, we love the old girl and hope she'll always be a part of our family.

    • @DonnaDavisArt
      @DonnaDavisArt  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much! I wondered if people would think it too much, but I just wanted that tone all over that tiny kitchen and with blue and white dishes and navy accents it seemed right. It's the "newest" part of the house build in Victorian times but it was last really redone in the 50's then random things done to it over in the 80's, but I thought that color just suited our old fridge (Which I love ). I have on my wish list a reproduction vintage stove in that color, but they are very pricey.

    It looks a lot more spacious now it's all painted which is definitely a good thing. I am a blues-greens fan myself, but I think this turquoise shade is way too turquoise for me - but I wondered if you are using a turquoise filter or turquoise lighting for your video because the light seems to be 'upping' the shade everywhere. I prefer more subtle shades myself, but we are all different ! This 'little' house is surprisingly spacious, and very pretty ! A good job in updating it !

    • @DonnaDavisArt
      @DonnaDavisArt  5 месяцев назад

      Well, this house can be funny with light. The old kitchen, which was built on mid Victorian so 'new' to the 1718 house, was built in the back where it does not get much light. It needed to be cool for food saving as well as heat in summer kitchens, so when I tried lighter fog blue shades, as I did at my other house which is flooded with light, it would go drab. Off season I taped various shades of blue and this was the one I felt 'lit' up the place the most. When I saw the sample IN the shop I thought, "Wow that is turquoise' but as soon as I put it in the light IN that kitchen it mellowed but also had a glow. I have to use lighting for it to show up in the camera so it looks much more turqoise than it does IN person. I love it tho and it's true, it's all subjective. There is just something uplifting about it here and the other blues are part of the sherwin williams 'historical shades' an there are some amazing blues and greens from 'the past'. I had fun. I also see this place differently than if I lived it in year round. I wanted fresh and inviting and being an artist color has always meant so much to me that I'm often erring on the side of more vibrant than beige, if that makes sense. I do appreciate more mellow tones tho, it depends on the setting.
      Yes, it's 'small' by American standards, which is why I call it that, but it is cleverly laid out , I think.

      The price fluctuates depending on the season/day. Luckily we've been able to charge a bit more these past 2 years (once we were able to open up again) but it's all relative because of course the taxes also went up. We do call my state TAXachusetts haha. We have lived here year round a few times as have other family members. It's has a lot of love and family history in it and I hope it comes thru to guests, but not everyone appreciates small and quirky haha.
