Neil has said the song was written with only one woman in the frame, the late, great Dusty. If she hadn’t of agreed Neil said it most probably have never been realeased.
It was an iconic duet with Dusty, but this song sounds so good with a Black Woman's soulful voice. I'm not British, so it took me a minute to recognize Beverly Knight. She's brilliant.

First, what's the point of setting up all the musicians' instruments and their microphones if a live performance wasn't the objective? Second, there are slight imperfections throughout the performance that would indicate that this is not 100% miming; e.g., Beverley's voice at the very beginning of her part is not quite audible. Most miming "performances" I've seen sound perfect and are usually reserved for artists who do a lot of dancing as part of their performance. Third, I think it would be hard to mime exactly to all the vocal acrobatics that Beverley does towards the end; her riffs/runs seem spontaneous. Regardless, amazing performance overall.

Totally Iconic..Pet shop boys and Erasure are the kings of the synths they ruled the 80's 90's and 2000's, whenever I listen to any of their songs I Just get goosebumps.
Out of all their many great songs to me it is "West End Girls" that still has the most moody allure and "What Have I Done to Deserve This" that has the most magic and gets the ear-worm wiggly with delight. It has a bell-like keyboard effect and trumpet effect that are every bit as much hooks as the vocals.
