Hi Lala! I don't know if you have noticed but on goodreads when you click on your friends profile there is a button that says more. Once you click on that you can compare books with people you friend on goodreads. I am not sure what kind of fun book challenge that could become but you are QUEEN of challenges so I thought I would bring it up to your attention. Ok, love your videos. Bye!
The Darkness Outside Us was so beautiful and heart breaking and wonderful. Agree though the characters should have been mid 20s. Also he did work with NASA on the science parts! He talks about it in his author’s note
I gave Unbury Carol three stars, but after watching this, I think maybe I should give it a go again. I think the reason why it didn't quite hit for me was that I read it immediately after Blood Meridian because I wanted another western, but then spent the entire time subconciously comparing it to Blood Meridian, one of the best westerns ever written lol
I love this series!! It’s so nice to get to books you’ve been meaning to read for years! 🥰 also now I’m curious about The Darkness Outside Us! I might check to see if my library has it 👀
The Darkness Outside Us was a pleasant surprise (and I don't pick up YA) - I didn't expect it the tone to be so deeply heartfelt. And the US paperback is coming out in April!
“This is quite possibly the ugliest looking spine combination I’ve read in a video and I don’t know how I’m going to promote it on Instagram” immediately goes to insta to check and Kayla did a great job on that post 👌💕 best outfit cover: a world without you (just needed a touch of black) worst outfit cover: this is all your fault
I’m so glad you enjoyed The Darkness Outside Us. It was my favorite book of last year and I just tell people to read it and then we can discuss it afterwards. I absolutely loved the reveals.
Empire Records is one of those movies that I feel like I'll love but have just never watched for no particular reason. The Weight of Our Sky sounds great. I'm definitely going to have to check my library for that one. Also, I really liked the outfit you chose to match it!
The Weight Of The Sky is such a good book. Definitely darker than I expected from the cover. I knew nothing about that part of history and was fascinating to learn. I read it 2 or 3 years ago and it's stayed with me. Excited to know the author has a new book!
Watching your percentage go down on most anticipated like vs dislikes makes me so sad for you, but I think it also shows that your taste is evolving and you’re becoming more discerning about books.
You're actually an outfit inspiration for me so I really enjoyed the fashion portions, I don't know why but that mauve top and black dress really worked for me
I am so so so so happy you liked The Darkness Outside Us 🥺 it was so not on my radar until I got it in a rainbowcrate box and was totally taken off guard by how much I ended up loving it!!
I think the best outfit combo was the weigh of our sky outfit! Yay for me finding some new ones to add to the tbr 🎉 and might have giggled with your closing stats - damn 2021! ❤️
Yay I’m so glad you like The Darkness Between Us! About the line about “love saving the day” or whatever, I guess I took that like the overall concept of love conquering hate since the two characters came from groups that were at war/conflict with each other and how love is the way we save humanity.
I don’t really read westerns either but I’m down to try Unbury Carol. I recently reread Sarah Gailey’s Upright Women Wanted and LOVED it. I’d really like to read her other book American Hippo (which I think is maybe a western?) either way, loved the video!
I read A World Without You a loooooong time ago, so I may not be remembering it correctly, but I always took his sister's POV (his sister is Phoebe, not Sofia btw) as the way of grounding the story in reality and Bo's POV as what he sees the world as. I remember the author makes you question which POV is the correct one at the end, and at the time I read the book, I was floored by that little plot twist, so I always remember it fondly!
The weight of our sky outfit was my fave!!! The not so perfect life one was probably my least fave, nothing wrong with it but I just thought the others were more fun 😁 loved this video and glad you loved so many of these!!
I love Empire Records but I’d advise against making it the group movie night. They made a “fan edition remix” that ruined the movie, so some people will have the DVD with the bad remix, some people might have the blu ray (which apparently is the theatrical release) and other will watch on streaming (the bad remix again).
I just read The Darkness Outside Us this week! I don't read a lot of YA but I really liked this (the reveals!!) and agree that if it were adult I probably would have given it 5 stars
I completely agree with your thoughts on The Darkness Outside Us. I keep telling people if you liked Project Hail Mary you should try The Darkness Outside Us. It feels like YA Project Hail Mary with a romance!
I think either the stripes or the black and mauve were the best matched outfits! 🖤 The worst was the Sophie Kinsella, but that was a bright green, so I don't blame you for not owning that color 😂
I’d be interested in watching you read beach read just to see if you liked it or not bc Emily Henry doesn’t write straight up contemporary romance so it would be interesting to see if you liked her stories or not
Hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦👍👋♥️, I liked the first one,🏍. I dont know how many times I came into the living room and Empire Records was playing😉
This was a great video! ❤️ I think your striped shirt was the best outfit and the dark green shirt matched the cover the least (but you still looked great ).
I hope this is okay to ask, I'm just curious. So my question is, with having harm-based OCD, does reading thriller/horror books have an impact on your harm OCD?
I find my OCD pretty manageable at this point in my life, so much so that I almost reworded and refilmed that clip to say "I used to deal with OCD." because the way it manifests as an adult is quite different than it was for me as a teen, and anything potentially "triggering" isn't *enough* that I would avoid any type of media for it now.
@@BooksandLala Thankyou for replying to my question :) I feel like there definitely needs to be a lot more support for young people and teens going through harm OCD, especially because media is so prevalent in young people's lives and I can imagine how triggering horror/thriller media might be for teens who have harm OCD and are still learning what it is and how to live with it.
I have little to say about any of these books, because I've only read a handful on your most anticipated lists, but I love booktuber's videos that unknowingly spark a reading theme idea that I normally wouldn't think of. My almost-soulmate's name is Ambrose and I've only ever read 1 book with a character with his name in it. Now I am truly tempted to read as many as I can find and see what emotions the character gives me 😆
I’m a lover of Sophie Kinsella’s books also and I literally never realized how many of her books have the main character fall in love with her boss until you said that lol. I haven’t read her most recent 3 but at least 2 of them I think don’t have that dynamic (at least in the synopsis) so maybe she’s moving away from that? I wonder if that had an impact on changing that aspect of Confessions of a Shopaholilc when it was adapted to a movie? Love Hugh Dancy but yeah I preferred their dynamic in the book
I also recently read The Weight of our Sky by Hanna Alkaf and have similar feelings you shared. However, for me it was a cover buy because it's gorgeous and powerful in its own right. I didn't know anything about this piece of history and it really pulled at my emotions. Being Alkaf's debut novel I think it was successful in what it set out to do.
I picked up leave the world behind from a little library. Read the long ass part up the grocery list and shoved that thing back into the little library. Fastest DNF I have experinced.
I'm at the beginning of the video and I'm pretty sure you don't generally like anthologies, but I really liked "Fresh Ink" most of the stories were really interesting. I would read it again for sure and I recommend it.
When you mentioned the Malay saying "Where you plant your feet is where you hold up the sky", I felt so excited since I immediately recognized the original phrase! In Malay, it'd be "Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung", which is the rough English equivalent to "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". It's common sense to always show respect and follow the rules of whichever place you end up in, but sometimes when the rules get too ridiculous or in some cases blatantly malicious, it becomes a hard dilemma. I have never read The Weight of Our Sky, but I could imagine how the main character was imposed upon by rules that stem from racism in that era, and why it hence became an actual burden rather than a show of respect. The sky above you may belong to the land you've stepped on, but whatever is burdening your shoulder shouldn't be a liability, and certainly not one so targeted against a group of people who are different from you. The weight of your sky is not mine to bear.
Aminah Mae Safi came out with a fantasy book, a robin hood retelling this year and I'm so intrigued by that since it's so different from her other two books???
Demeter was the Greek goddess of agriculture and grain, which is somehow both weird and fitting for that book on the surface level stuff I know about the book.
Your best outfit match was the one you said was the worst! The stripes looked so good beside the book!
Yes! Just what I was going to say.
Totally agree it matched so well!
I'm always saying:I was born with a TBR that I'll never finish!
i was legit thinking how much i needed a lala video today! blessed!! ❤
I love the little previews at the beginning!!! Always so funny 🤩😇

There's also a comic version of The Weight of Our Sky on Webtoons if you are interested in reading it in that format as well!
Is it connected to the author or is it fan-made?
@@asterismos5451 It's an official Webtoon Original and says in the description that it is written by the author
@@RebaMedia Oh, cool!

I was uninterested in Unbury Carol after all the terrible reviews but now after hearing how much you loved it I might have to read it 😅😍
The Darkness Outside Us was a pleasant surprise (and I don't pick up YA) - I didn't expect it the tone to be so deeply heartfelt. And the US paperback is coming out in April!
The darkness outside us was such a good surprise for me too!!!!!!! I was not expecting it and I loved it !
I think your best outfit matches were Unbury Carol and The Weight of Our Sky!
This was so fun to watch! Especially the stats at the end. What a bummer that 2021 was such a bad year...
“This is quite possibly the ugliest looking spine combination I’ve read in a video and I don’t know how I’m going to promote it on Instagram” immediately goes to insta to check and Kayla did a great job on that post 👌💕

Kayla bringing us Ms. Frizzle as a librarian dressing up to match the theme of the books she is reviewing. LOVE this idea
So excited to see your thoughts on The Darkness Outside Us!!! It was a favorite of mine last year
Ahh so glad you liked it!!
That book blew my mind! It was absolutely amazing.
One of my favourites too. It's needs all the hype!!
You're actually an outfit inspiration for me so I really enjoyed the fashion portions, I don't know why but that mauve top and black dress really worked for me
I would say that the weight of our sky's outfit is the best, I think that trying to match was a fun way to add to the video!
I am so so so so happy you liked The Darkness Outside Us 🥺 it was so not on my radar until I got it in a rainbowcrate box and was totally taken off guard by how much I ended up loving it!!

Dazzling Lala haha soon fun and intriguing. Love these almost movie length vids:For love these creative challenges for reading
Empire Records is one of THE classic movies of the 90’s. A must watch. I’ve seen it a hundred times!
The weight of our sky outfit was my fave!!! The not so perfect life one was probably my least fave, nothing wrong with it but I just thought the others were more fun 😁 loved this video and glad you loved so many of these!!

Love how this turned out with mostly positives!! 💕💕 we love a vlog where you actually enjoy the books! Haha

Ahhh I'm so so happy you loved The Darkness Outside Us!!! It was my first 5 star read of the year!
THANK YOU, why don’t people like Unbury Carol??? It was one of my favorite books from last year. Also the audiobook was fantastic!
My favourite time of the work day is having a new video to watch
I'm so glad you finally read The Darkness Outside Us! I've been waiting for you to read it 😊

World Without You sounds like such a good story... but too sad for me. Worst cover outfit was the dark green for the Sophie Kinsella xD
I love love loved “Last Night At The Telegraph Club” and I think you would too considering it being at the older end of YA.
I love that you keep me on my toes. I never know when you will pop up in my feed!
You captured my thoughts on The Darkness Outside Us perfectly! I loved it, gave it a 4-4.5, and wish it was adult fiction. 😅
Unbury carol outfit is my favorite, I think the weight of our sky outfit is most matching tho

I really liked your outfit for The Weight of the Sky
I would love to see a vlog of you reading westerns since you also enjoyed upright women wanted if I remember correctly.
This was a great video! ❤️ I think your striped shirt was the best outfit and the dark green shirt matched the cover the least (but you still looked great ).
The space shirt was awesome but I really love your stripy shirt! So cute 🥰
Your book look for The Weight of Our Sky 🌌 ✨💜

I... wasn't the biggest fan of Empire Records... But everyone else seems to love it!
The Darkness Outside Us title&top 😍🌠🌠
