I've talked about it *so* many times, put it on so many TBRs that that definitely makes sense haha. I was actually considering this video about "reading books that other people read because of me" because I get tagged in things all the time where people seem to think I read something that I haven't yet. 😅 I love how I manage to convince people to read books I have yet to read myself hahaha

i read the weight of blood without having read Carrie and i’m glad cause i did almost read Carrie first (i actually read a sample of the first chapter over the summer and wasn’t into it so i didn’t buy it) but I love what Tiffany D Jackson did with the story! i’ve never hated characters so much in a book (shows how great she is at writing nuanced characters and i’ve definitely met people over the course of my life like Wendy)
I solely listened to the Weight of Blood. Additionally, I've never read Carrie (only watched the 2002 film once as a teen) so I'm only vaguely familiar with the general story. All that to say, I really enjoyed the story and could not stop listening. I always love hearing how different people can walk away from the same book feeling different things.

I loved something a prof said about short stories when I was in school: Novels are meant to think thoughts for you / to work you through what you’re meant to think. Short stories are meant to introduce you to a thought - and leave you to think through it on your own.
I am holding onto hope that Kate Folk will write more about Blots. I haven't stopping thinking about those short stories since I read them.
The sidepart where all the blonde is on one side looks really cool, I can't remember the timestamp lol. After watching this (with the different parting and wig) and the 11th grade favorites I think that a new hair era is on it's way.

I haven’t read Carrie (or any Stephen King) but quite enjoyed The Weight of Blood, although mostly enjoyed it as a horror book for teens!

I've never read or watched Carrie, and I think that allowed me to enjoy The Weight of Blood more! So I definitely see what you mean. It was all new to me, and I gave it 4.5 stars 🌟❤️
I DNFd the weight of blood but that's because I don't normally read YA and it felt very YA to me. Of what I read of it, I did like that is was following the original Carrie set up.

I struggled with The Weight of Blood for the same reasons, but the ending and the way she used the skeleton of Carrie to have such important conversations around race and prejudice pulled me back in

The funny thing is that I found The Saturday Night Ghost Club at a thrift store after seeing you haul it…and I bought it and read it but never got to see how you felt 😂 I remember loving the end but being a bit meh about the rest

It's interesting that The Weight of Blood is so similar to Carrie, where White Smoke was SO similar to Wait Till Helen Comes. Like, beat for beat an identical setup (but it differs as far as WS being about gentrification and some of the ending departs from the original). Were either of them marketed as retellings? It's an interesting niche, but as someone who hates retellings, I wish they said what they were on the blurb :P

The weight of blood was excellent to me! I loved Kenny’s storyline because in America they loooooove their black athletes, but the racism is still rampant. Ugh I couldn’t stop listening to it. I binged it & instantly wanted to reread it. 5 stars from me!
