I had to play Demon's Souls again in its entirety to get footage from this series, and I forgot how much I loved it too! It has incredible atmosphere, music and environments. I think Dark Souls beats it in a few gameplay departments, but both games are so great in different ways
A Real shame it was an exclusive, i believe that if this game was released on all platforms it would have been more successful in the past. I say this only because i want to see this game remastered and playable on all platforms, for everyone to enjoy and experience this amazing journey that so few were able to witness. I know, it's a fruitless ambition...
its true it could have made more money that way, but it just wasnt possible to do a multiplatform release. Remember, From Software was on the verge of Bankruptcy before Demon's Souls came out. This game came out of a trashed idea to create a modern King's Field game halfway through the development of another game. This game was a gigantic risk and From Software had no resources to support any kind of risk, so they just did what was safest and signed an exclusive deal with Sony and released the game to Japanese audiences only. We Should consider ourselves lucky this game made it outside of Japan and spawning a whole new genre of videogame is lottery winning levels of luck.
You don't have a choice in sparing Astraea because you're a prisoner in the Nexus until the Old One is defeated. The monumental mocks you if you refuse to help making it clear you will never escape the Nexus on your own. Also, the Maiden in Black said she will guide you but she guides you to your death and I'm certain she did that to trap the hero so the Monumental can use him. The Monumental probably selected the hero as the most capable human to become the most powerful demon and told the maiden to trap him and guide him against the Old One.
You do have a choice, do or do not. Or you can take a third option and serve the old one. At the end you're suppose to leave the maiden in black, but you can cut her down instead.
From the New Game, the player CHOOSES to adventure into Boletaria through the rift. The player is then killed by Vanguard or by the Dragon God and is thus binded to the Nexus to never be freed, not even in victory or death. From each NG+ we are basically summoned in a new world like the previous one to repeat our actions. This time we can choose different routes, but the end result is the same. Even if we do embrace the Old One, likely leading to the end of that world and the creating of the Dark Soul's timeline, it doesn't free us. But it was OUR choice to venture deep into the rift, to colect Souls and learn of the Soul Arts. We were then imprisoned and proved to be the most powerful Demon Slayer alive, achieving power beyond all Archdemons. Even as the Monumental and his minions, as in the Maiden and Mephisto, keep us there, the initial choice was ours and we end up trapped into and undending cycle.
Well a lot of it isn't lifted directly from the games dialogue, but I get what you mean. This episode is more of a prologue - it's meant to establish the origins of the world so that people will understand the more complicated episodes in future.

As much as I am a fan of Dark Souls, Demons Souls always hit me a bit harder. So I look forward to it all, and thank you for all the time you put into it.

I love Demon/Dark Souls you have no idea but this is exactly what I thought was missing...a good storyline. I mean yes there is one but not remotly close to what I just watched. I'll continue on watching your videos
An awesome introduction to the Demon souls lore videos. Of the many things that draw me to both demon souls and dark souls, i just how beautifully sad and hopeful they are. You have a really good way of narrating/story telling, i really enjoy kicking it back with a cup of tea and enjoying these series : )

Happy! Happy! Demon's Souls is so great and I love your lore videos so I've been so very excited for this. Nice to see you promoting videogametalkinghead, I've been watching his Demon's Souls series for a while now. Great stuff the both of you.
You notice in dark souls that the bed of chaos is basically a tree like being much like the old one some would say that is izelith sorry if I spelled the name wrong but at the end of sinners rise we learn the witch is the lost sinner and the elium Lois is a house to the old chaos now being old (okay I admit that last bit is really cheesy but it something to think about)
Maaan I love your voice and your way of treating the informations of Dark Souls. Keep going. I expect more about your Dark Souls 2 videos than Dark Souls 2 itself!!!
The Old One is probably the best villain in any story ever. Yes, he's better written than Cthulhu to me. For the point is that the Old One is not really evil _per se_. He's just a force of nature. An allegory to things in nature like Black Holes that simply exist to violently destroy for no apparent reason, or even the Big Bang, both of which have the power, according to science, to warp and destroy the fabric of reality and create or discard scientific laws in the process. Things that are probably ultimately unknowable, and drive people mad who try to understand their logic, if there is any. It has no hate, it just wants to devour. And will spawn "demons" to help the process along. It feels spiteful, but ultimately isn't even that. It's cold, senseless destruction as if by natural law. This game is an allegory for the horror of existence. If you know anything about the nature of reality most of it is, according to scientists, pointless and destructive. A meaningless cycle. See the theme? No game in the series has ever come close to this depth.
The themes to those games are just mythological. While that's great and all, it doesn't make a statement about life itself like Demon's Souls did. Demon's Souls had a point to make about life's struggle. It was art.
Dark souls theme: The inability to accept change, and the consequences of that decision; Gwyn fought to retain the world as it was (under the control of the gods,) and in doing so left if (and himself) an empty husk. Bloodborne theme: The zealous pursuit of truth and it's ramifications. Willem and Laurence both sought out a truth that the world wasn't ready for, and the city of Yharnam paid the price. I can respect your opinion that the theme of Demon's Souls is better, but let's not pretend that the other games are thoroughly without a life lesson to match those in Demon's Souls.
I suppose I should mention that the link at the end to Demon's Souls Lore (Speculation) is currently dead, if you care to put something in the playlist where it's pointing.
Nice! Can't wait for more! Man I love this game. It's one of the best games I have ever played. It has so much atmosphere, you can find so many cool things if you just look around. Like how the highest palace of Boletaria (False King's place) is nestled under that awesome giant rock structure.
I finished Demon's Souls today, loved it. Few things did bother me though. 1. Bosses were surprisingly easy. I never died more than 3 times per boss. Also, the bosses seemed less aggressive than Dark Souls bosses, but they just had crazy amount of health. And you could just abuse the hell out of your environment (and the grass). I never raged, but then again, I never felt that feeling of achievement either. But I did like the variety in boss fights. 2. World Tendency. It fucking ruins the first playthrough, which should be the most memorable one. It's insane that you miss many NPCs and events if you play completely blind and don't know about this shit. 3. Some places were just... meh. While I loved Valley of Shit and Latria, the Storm Shrine and Stonefang were kinda disappointing. Granted, Stonefang had cool bosses and adorable bugs, but the Storm Shrine was just boring. I do prefer Dark Souls, mainly because of it's atmosphere (isolation and the feeling of being insignificant). I liked that I was just a common person who was freed out of a prison and just tried to survive with my buddies than automatically being a brave Demon Slayer surrounded by the legends of Boletaria. Just my opinion, though. As I said, I still loved Demon's Souls, but... I can't see myself playing it again in a while.
Dr Famine Agree with you for the most part, but man when the bosses of Demon Souls were good, they were damn good. I'll never forget that bastard False King Allant. Took me twenty plus tries to bring him down.
HiddenEcho The bosses were cool, I don't deny that. It might be that since I've played Dark Souls so much the bosses do not seem so difficult to me anymore, haha. Even Allant I beat on my third try, but man that fight was long (and intense!). I had to whack him like half an hour to beat him. And as I said, I loved how different the bosses were from each other, making each of them quite unique. I'm actually now tempted to play Demon's Souls again. It seems that the more I'm not playing it, the more I appreciate it (especially since I'm now playing Dark Souls 2...). I was just really upset about the world tendency thing, like... really upset. I'd still rate Demon's Souls 9/10, maybe even 10/10 as I really did love it. I didn't mean to rant or bash the game, and I apologize if it sounded like that.
Dr Famine I just beat it a few days ago and I thought it was easy too. I think I picked it up for $5.00 when it was on sale. Now that is money well-spent!
Dr Famine I kind of agree with 1. many bosses are that bit too simple to beat but take alot of time. 2. I cannot agree, its true yes, but in dark souls you will, most certainly, miss alot of stuff on your first playthrough as well, there are some things I think I´d never knew without watching videos, like how to save solaire. I also prefer dark souls, the atmosphere is amazing and the design is still the best of the series imo, but demons souls is in a solid second place and thats something. actually I didnt like the design of the phantoms in demons souls.
Michael Morris Because i put demon souls after dark souls 2 lol But really outside of some technical features and gameplay improvements i didn't like it as much demon souls.
***** Dark Souls 2 is more of a sport, and Demons Souls and Dark Souls are more games. I personally love Demons Souls. More than Dark Souls, but Dark Souls is I think the best game in the series from a subjective point of view. It is narratively superior in every way. Dark Souls 2 is mechanically superior in every way, and focused on allowing PvP to be fully flushed out and dynamic. More so than its predecessors. And this resulted in the narrative of Dark Souls 2 fall by the wayside. They are all great games, for different reasons.
Theory: The destroyed Archstone represents the giants or kings who reigned during the Age of Fire. And the Dark Souls saga tells how that Archestone was destroyed.
I'm So excied about the Demon souls lore! Ive played Demon Souls twice but in the end never really knew the whole story. So id like to thank VaaitVidya for making both the dark souls and demon souls lores. I always loved dark souls and all youve done was made me love it even more!
Demon souls is probaly a cool game but man.. The lore seems so empty and unfinnished, I know he only has 2 videos yet but still Dark souls has the best lore I think
i actually like the Lore on Demons Souls way more than the one in Dark Souls, you also have to consider that Dark Souls is a Multiplat game and because of it, it has a bigger audience and more people have been set to discover stuff from the Lore of the game, well at least EpicNameBro agrees with me... he just said in his last video that he also prefers the Lore of Demons Souls over the one in Dark Souls...
Demons' Souls Hype!! Thanks for bringing us more souls. Looking forward to Old King Doran, Yurt, and/or Maiden Astraea. Maybe even her noble protector Garl Vinland. So many good characters in this game...
Hey Griever. The thing that you have to know is that the music sold on Pond 5 is stock-music. Unlike regular music that you'd buy at a shop at low prices and listen to for self-enjoyment, the intended purpose of stock music is for use in some sort of production, like a video or animation. The purchaser isn't necessarily buying the track, but is buying a partial copyright license to use that track in a work. So if you do pirate it, don't use it in a production. You could be sued. Cheers.
"has the world found a new savior, or have the demons found a new slave?"
Those were the 2 reasons. The last bit wasn't very clear, apologies!

I was just really upset about the world tendency thing, like... really upset. I'd still rate Demon's Souls 9/10, maybe even 10/10 as I really did love it. I didn't mean to rant or bash the game, and I apologize if it sounded like that.
Dr Famine Wow... Weird, I find World/Character Tendency to be Demon's Souls best feature
I also prefer dark souls, the atmosphere is amazing and the design is still the best of the series imo, but demons souls is in a solid second place and thats something.
actually I didnt like the design of the phantoms in demons souls.
i love your work vaatividya i cant wait for dark souls 2 to come out and see your darks souls 2 lore and prepare to cry
Demon's Souls is my favourite in the series.
It might sound crazy and i know people won't agree but for me I say in order I like:
Dark Souls 2 ≥ Demon Souls -> Dark Souls 1
***** Jimmy, how does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world?
StealthBlade98:o how can you put DS1 last lol I like ds2 im with you don't know why people bitch
Michael Morris Because i put demon souls after dark souls 2 lol
But really outside of some technical features and gameplay improvements i didn't like it as much demon souls.
Hey Vaati, I just wanna say that I love your lore vids. But man, your characters always look so... unfashionable :)
At the end of the video we have 2 options. The left option (Speculation) comes up as Private Playlist, disappointingly! Chance for a fix?!
I'm so glad that you have the voice for this. I'm actually enjoying it very much and you know what? Fuck it. I'm loading up Demon's Souls.
Everyone who watches this please understand that miyazaki said demon's souls story and dark souls are not related.
this will be just as good as your previous work, if not better, this channel is awesome
I want to give Demon Souls a try, but probably will never get the chance, as I don't own a PS2,3, or 4.
gwabashnuba yeah, I don't know why, I always thought Demon Souls was a PS2 game, I guess I always forget how many years the last gen spanned.
I dont think you can play demons souls on a ps 4. You need a ps3...:p
+Luckysquirrel1256
PS 3 ran from 07-now(technically still)
+johnnyscifi yep. but you can get it on psn for 20 bucks
Go to a retro game shop. They're relatively cheap, and there are SO many good older games😊
one of the best content creators on youtube with some of the most positive feedback from fans.
i'm glad i subscribed to you, vaati.
Here we go again after PS5 Stream
This will never change from being my favorite souls like.
Anyone else here coz of the ps5 reveal??
AWWWWW YESS ITS HERE ty Vaati for your awesome lore series
Theory: The destroyed Archstone represents the giants or kings who reigned during the Age of Fire. And the Dark Souls saga tells how that Archestone was destroyed.
I'm So excied about the Demon souls lore! Ive played Demon Souls twice but in the end never really knew the whole story. So id like to thank VaaitVidya for making both the dark souls and demon souls lores. I always loved dark souls and all youve done was made me love it even more!
Demon's Souls is much deeper in terms of lore than Dark Souls.
flyer95311 No
UOR Yes.
MoreImbaThanYou no it really isnt
Dastsabre Yes it really is.
That's enough, I love them both.
Watching this as I play the remake, learned new things that I missed.
Demon souls is probaly a cool game but man.. The lore seems so empty and unfinnished, I know he only has 2 videos yet but still
Dark souls has the best lore I think
Considering most info is fan interpretations and considering DeS has the most limited audience in the "series".
***** Very true, after all Demon souls started the Soul series so credits to that
thats the beauty ot it IMO, it leaves a lot up to the player
SmoughTown has done some pretty long and interesting videos on Demon's Soul's lore, the game has a lot more depth than many give it credit for.
i actually like the Lore on Demons Souls way more than the one in Dark Souls, you also have to consider that Dark Souls is a Multiplat game and because of it, it has a bigger audience and more people have been set to discover stuff from the Lore of the game, well at least EpicNameBro agrees with me... he just said in his last video that he also prefers the Lore of Demons Souls over the one in Dark Souls...
Demons' Souls Hype!! Thanks for bringing us more souls. Looking forward to Old King Doran, Yurt, and/or Maiden Astraea. Maybe even her noble protector Garl Vinland. So many good characters in this game...
Clinton Souls: Prepare to Lie
Bryant Overstreet WHOA! Too topical dude!

Good Job with the video. You have me hooked on the series already.
one of your best videos yet
Good as ever Vaati! SOOOOO looking forward to this!
The video when I go onto your channel made me teary
Hey Griever. The thing that you have to know is that the music sold on Pond 5 is stock-music. Unlike regular music that you'd buy at a shop at low prices and listen to for self-enjoyment, the intended purpose of stock music is for use in some sort of production, like a video or animation. The purchaser isn't necessarily buying the track, but is buying a partial copyright license to use that track in a work. So if you do pirate it, don't use it in a production. You could be sued. Cheers.
hey man stop tempting me by putting those videos coming soon you crush my dreams of seeing the next episode
I love the format of the ending.
Damn it dude, the videos you create are so good they feel like internet heroine. I want more, and I want it NOW!
