Sorry for the bad lighting - it gets dark early in Finland during this time of the year and I don't have an extra light source for filming. Normally the broad daylight does the trick for my videos, but I filmed this in the late afternoon...
The GameChanger The widest I ride before this was 8,25, which I also liked, but always felt a bit too small. Great for flip tricks etc. but I had tons of foot drag during nose/tail slides and ither tricks. This one is less for flip tricks (at least for me) but that doesn’t bother since I’m now more into transition. For that it’s amazing!
@@MarcoEckhardt i went from the bigboard 9 plus era to the toothpick popsicle 7.5 and then 8.25-8.5..finally got myself a 9.1 AH orsnge crusher as a cruiser..
No risers? I put together a 9.0 with 1/4 risers on 56mm wheels and I threw my whole game off because to ollie it takes longer for a snap 😅 but i must say the turning radius is crazy good surfing feel 🤙🏼🏄.
I ride anything up to 56 mm without riser pads, but I also ride harder bushings, which helps with wheelbite! If you ride your trucks loose - 1/4 or 1/8” risers are a must for sure! And yeah - I can imagine that it complet threw you off. Your muscle memory did probably not like the delay in pop for a while :D
What kind of trucks are you using? I've been skating mostly Indy Forged Hollows and found that I really don't need risers, even with something like Powell G Bones 64mm and I'm using the stock bushings. I'm mainly just cruising though and have learned to just watch how much I lean into the board. The G Bones are on a 8.5 deck with Indy 149s though. If I was doing a lot of flip tricks, or tricks in general, I guess it would be more of an issue. I think 1/4" seems like it's kind of overkill though. I've tried 1/4" and 1/8" and 1/4" seemed like it was too much. Eventually, I mostly just gave up on risers altogether. If you are skating low trucks like Thunders, maybe they are needed more. That's why I've mostly stuck with Indy. I like bigger wheels, so, low trucks are pretty pointless. I wasn't impressed with Thunder's turn either.
Another great video, I like how your videos are a combo of an “unboxing” of new skate products meets the crafting of setting it up. Very satisfying seeing it completed! I still have my McGill mini from 1989. Cheers!
Awesome.. One of our local skateshop has this exact deck. Might get it after watching this video.. Very few setup video where i see them use spacers in their wheels...
hey I got this exact board, and I set it up with ace trucks, and 1/8 riser pads, and globe 65mm longboard wheels.. it's heavy as shit, so I was just wondering, if you feel your board significantly heavy as well.
The wheels probably do most of the damage for you. If they are 65mm I guess they are significantly wider than regular whees as well - makes a big difference. Mine was pretty standard in weight. I mean the ACE trucks are not hollow or anything, and the general size of all components is bigger than a 8” deck, so naturally it’s a bit heavier. But proportionately it was fine for me. On my current 9” santa cruz I ride 169 indy titaniums, which make it fairly light for a board that big, but those trucks also cost a lot^^
Do you find that deck to wide? Problem with wide boards is that they are too long. That deck is 32.95 in length. I like them much shorter like 32 to 32.5 the longest.
Jersey Devil I gotta say that the length doesn’t bother me at all because I like to have a wider stance since I’m 1,95m tall. The width allows me to place my big feet better, but also makes it more difficult to flip the board. All in all I really like the board and will probably stick to the width or maybe try the Andy Anderson Pro model after this one. Over a bunch of sessions and bushing swap attempts, I sold the ACEs because I couldn’t find a setup that worked for me - standard bushings were way too soft. Going back to Thunders now and if that doesn’t hold up (I think it will, I had 151s before with standard bushings) I’ll go for the good ol’ Indys with yellow or black bushings :D
Marginally compared to a 8” or 8,5” bc there is a bit more material. But not very noticeable at least to me. With that size of boards you’ll feel the weight difference more bc of larger trucks, but hollows, lights, titaniums or whatever light weight versions help with that.
@@MarcoEckhardt Yeah I ride 9 s only but wondering if Powell was a bit heavier then others. Thank you man. I just bought 9.25 shaped chocolate deck today
@@jakeestrada1239 been loving it! Skated it for ~18 hours skate time (lol I count how long decks last in operating hours ^^) so far and it just recently started to get a lil bit softer, but not in a bad way. Great pop, medium concave and kicks. Plenty of foot space for my US12 clown shoes. Just for reference, decks last me between 10-20 hours normally, mostly due to my ~100kg / 220lbs. So this is a dope one so far performance wise. The previous one was the 10” Winky deck, which was also dope. Overall I really like SC boards (rode like 3 in the past 6 months). Now I’m on a short break due to a broken thumb :/ but soon I shred again! Look out for my next setup vid in a few weeks - got my hands on a Shorty’s Muska silhouette deck 😍 super hyped on that, haven’t had the chance to ride shorty’s boards in 15 years.
Hell yeah - that guy is so versatile and super talented, one of my absolute favorites! I rode his pro model earlier this year as well, really sick deck!
Sex bolts! Wood screws will always strip if you just seat your rails with screws. The good news is that you can strip your wood screws and then install the sex bolts in the same location. Do not ever relocate your rails. I hate chatter from loose parts

wow.. I'm so amazed, work of your hands. nice video!
I always come back to this setup, beautiful...
I like that deck. I have a more recent one that has a skeleton in the background. Yours looks a lot nicer with the solid background.
Awesome setup.. Might get the same deck plus the 9.25 caballero ban this deck.. The last time i rode a 9" deck was back in the early 90s..

Yeah. I'm for low riding with mini wheels, too. I feel safer being 47 yo. Closer to the ground feels good and safe.

@idmhead0 I have indy 169 the second biggest ones they offer on a 10 inch welcome board and I have 56 orbs it's a big stable heavy board.

Do the bigger board like these last longer?
Depends on how you ride them. They're the same thickness, just wider.
I’m thinking bigger wheels and deck for my dad board
