Based upon the legend of the Merry Maidens and the Pipers of Boleigh:
The Pipers played music for the Merry Maidens of the village, who danced for so long that they lost track of time. As the sun rose on the sabbath, the Maidens were turned to stone by a pagan curse, and the Pipers too after trying to flee into neighbouring woods.
