“One of the finest rock records of 2016”
Louder Than War
“Church of the Cosmic Skull have thrown the doors open with this debut full-length. The fact that their range comes with a corresponding cohesion of sound and purpose makes 'Is Satan Real?' even more impressive. Its shining moments blind and its darker moments pull downward, but it’s in being able to pull off both and craft such seamlessness between the two sides that the band truly begin to make their mark.”
The Obelisk
Lyrics:
I wanna take you
I wanna take you to the ocean
Though the sun is out of view
It’s reflected on the moon
And its lighting up the room
So you sing another tune
And I remember
No one can save you, you’re under their spell
No one can save you at all
No one can touch you and no one can see
No one can save you
I wanna take you
I wanna take you to the ocean
I wanna hold you
Hold you down beneath the waves
I wanna feel you
Feel you struggle in the water
I wanna hear you
I wanna hear you when you say
There’s an evil in your eye
There’s a weight upon your mind
There’s an evil in your eye
There’s a weight upon your mind
No one can save you, you’re under their spell
No one can save you at all
No one can touch you and no one can see
No one can save you
I wanna take you
I wanna take you to the mountain
I wanna show you
I wanna show you what I’ve seen
I’m gonna push you
I’m gonna push you to the edge now
I wanna see you
Looking down at where you’ll be
Though the sun is out of view
It’s reflected on the moon
And its lighting up the room
So you sing another tune
And I remember
No one can save you, you’re under their spell
No one can save you at all
No one can touch you and no one can see
No one can save you
No one can save you at all

The best band I have heard in years! I am almost 60, I have been in many bands, I know how hard it is to find the perfect fit with others, I am so happy for you all. Take care. T.R.
Thank you so much for putting much needed instruction into some brilliant and soulful packaging. The world needs more!
I'm picking up some hints of the legendary Long John Baldry in there! Bravo!!!
It's like Gandalf cast a magic mushroom spell on Kansas.
Hahahahaha incredible
Ohh you high high.
Nailed it.
This made me bust a gut 😂
Lol
That guitar solo is a great example of "less is more". It's not flashy but it's exactly what the song needs. It's got feeling.

It's also followed by the organ solo which is a case of "more is more" lol

Everyone multiclasses as Bard/Cleric. +20 Performance: Organ.
They are all bards with +5 to charisma.
Finally some good tunes that hit the right amount of weird and psychedelic and face melting rock n roll. I want to see these guys on some good shrooms.
Why did rock stop using organs! Dig the sound and finally some freaking guitar solos!
Expensive and cumbersome, is my bet
That electric cello is killing it too
Gongasoso electric organs can be a touch pricey, but they’re pretty far from cumbersome.
CLUTCH!
You haven't discovered the right bands, my friend.
Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Blue Öyster Cult, The Animals, Ghost, and Black Sabbath combined into one band

Hehehehehhehe good joke man
He has it firmly inserted into his third eye upon which u will all gaze in your last moments. The rebirth shall commence!
The mark of a musician who truly understands the soul of the pipe organ is one who understands how to work with the resonance of his space....too many organists keep playing at a pace unmatched to the resonance of the hall... The fading echo and silence are every bit a part of the performance as the bright fanfare...Without the silence, the fanfare becomes just noise
They suck
Those stupid fuckers obviously don't believe in the place called Hell.
I've always liked the heaviest of music....its a shame its come to all this.

6 years later and I'm still digging this group.

For once a RUclips recommendation hits HARD. This is fantastic!
You really gotta try listening to this song while eating Mac&Cheese. Just Wow!
I just did by coincidence and boom. Revelatory
You, sirs, are quite high. Please share.

Dude, why even compare bands, they are totally different.
five years later, here I am again. Thank you RUclips alghoritm, the one thing you do right is suggesting music to me
YES, I've been to Kansas. My friend Floyd, a gentle giant, took me to out Emerson Lake and a bar called the Crimson King. Good times.
This song reminds me of being so angry I was beyond reason. Nothing anyone says can break the feeling of just needing to destroy or act out. It hurts you, you regret it later, but in that moment nothing can wake you up.
I've been there. Only I wanted to be destroyed, not to destroy. God saved me. I surrendered my soul and life to Him. He's delivered me from so much darkness. God is real. Satan is real. Choose this day who you will serve. There's a better way.
Maybe therapy could help too? I know a lot of people are shy about going to and receiving therapy or seeing if there might not be something going on with anger like that.

I'm 32 and I've been in a dozen bands. Only one had the potential to reach something truly great. It didn't work out and that's okay. I still play and love music. I'm just glad bands like this exist.

I've listened to this and "Cold Sweat" enough times now that they just automatically come up in the recommendations no matter what I'm watching. I could be listening to extreme Japanese noise rock or watching British panel show clips, and there would be Brother Michael pointing at me out of the "Cold Sweat" thumbnail.
I also fall in to this exactly oddly specific category of fans of japanese noise rock videos, british panel shows, and church of cosmic skull.
As someone who listens to a ton of death metal, I'm always coming back to the the alter of the Cosmic Skull.
A big technical death metal fan and I absolutely love this group. Good is good no matter what the music style is.
I don't get how the vast majority of their fans are metalheads, I think they are more well rounded than that where average music enjoyers would like this.

Nothing makes me cry beside extreme anger. While listening on repeat a tear came to my eye because i felt understood. Thank you for this great release. Video is good but in the blindness of my anger all i needed was the sounds. Its a new therapy for me and will continue to be so. Gives me a reason to live another day.
2021 and I hope you're still feeling like living another day
It got me too. I'm doing the same right now, laying in bed, on repeat, and one line in particular makes emotions bubble forth from the depths "there's a weight upon your mind". I think the fact the girls sing it instead of him, makes it hit 10 times as hard.

A technical detail that most people miss is that the lights, coming out of the band's third eyes at 5:53, isn't CGI. At that moment, they were sending visions forward in time to Donny Darko.

It’s taken me awhile to figure out how to word this, but this song/video makes me want to face my fears and myself (also a fear) at the same time. Also, barely knowing much about music, it still felt like I was listening to a different time that I had to look to see if it was a band I’d heard on the radio as a child, but it’s also fresh-in the the here and now, too. Church of the Cosmic Skull - I miss my pineal (working correctly). If my mind still functioned properly I would gather you guys up, if you wanted and anybody else who wanted to go back and watch Jim and the boys up on stage. Mr. Mojo Risin dancing with those shamen must have been something to see. I refuse to dance anymore but I'd be up there on stage with Jim dancing. I'd love to see the look in the shamen's eyes as I joined them. I'd want to see what Jim, Ray, Robbie and John thought too. The looks on all their faces would be priceless. I don't know which would be more priceless the looks on their faces or their thoughts in my mind. There are so many bands I'd go back to see. Too many people died way too soon. So many dead rock stars. I can't even open my own doors anymore much less go see the band. I wish I could still trip but it just doesn't work anymore.
