Eliot If I recall correctly, about half way though the Plan A BRZ build in early 2016, Chris bought a new catback exhaust but not the section between the catback and the exhaust manifold. His backup was to buy the missing piece from craigslist. The seller on craigslist (Eric) said the part was from a BRZ/FRS that he totaled and took the part off before the insurance company took the car. Chris put two and two together (wrecked BRZ, that part was missing, this person had the part) and figured out that Eric used to own the BRZ that Chris was fixing up. He texted Eric to see if his hypothesis was true and to ask a few questions about the wreck and the car’s history. I think Chris even said in that episode that Eric mentioned he was a professional welder and that Chris hopes that Eric could do some fabrication as part of B is for Build.
A whole lot of people of people have/had serious doubts during the first few videos, saying "Your floor isn't leveled, it's going to end up sideways and not straight" or "Your frame is going to snap itself in half within days" or "That thing is going to handle like garbage because of the shit built frame" or" You're aiming way to high you won't ever be able to make this build work properly". You know, that kind of shit. I'm not going to lie, at some points, I did have doubts as well, except that after being a long time viewer, I know that my doubts usually get addressed later on and now I'm fully on board with this build, I'm hyped to see it in its final form and I hope that the people who were talking trash will take it back. It's ok to have doubts, but talking trash is another thing.
I got to admit.i was a little ceptical about this build....now that i see your plans for the front towers....i'm not any more.this thing will definitely be awesome.
Right ? That's what I just said in another comment. A *whole lot* of people were skeptical about this build, me included, but as the build goes on, all my worries got addressed and now I'm a believer lol
Your talking about cleaning out the ITBs before starting the engine but I guarantee when your mocking up the gas peddle you are gonna forget and press in it. Better off cleaning them out now and tape them up 😉
Usually don't comment on RUclips but damn is this build getting together, I've been here from the start of this build and I am in love with this build. Keep it up because I'd like to see more content like this!!!
I can see with these episodes being executive length (short 10 mins) the crunch will come the closer the deadline looms, the frantic machinations of paint, interior and all the rest of the Build.
two bars per day doesn't seem like great progress, but its the kind of thing that must be done correctly. Still a huge amount of work to do and will be lucky if it's even driveable before SEMA.
Hey Chris, I'm no suspension expert but I'd take a look at steering axis inclination, strut towers aren't meant to be straight up and down, because the steering turns in a specific way and will impact caster. The last thing you want is stupid positive camber when full lock because caster is way off.
The caster angle should match the stock M5 angle since the struts are being located and designed based off the negative jig. They may look straight up from some angles, but I'd be willing to bet if you saw it in person you'd see they're leaned back a bit.
You and street bandito are going to have to meet up when these are done and race Edit: I would also get some little shoes for the dog especially with all the cutting and grinding, last thing you want is a piece of metal in your best friends paw.
Liam McKeever Wright distribution would play a massive part, street bandito it’s very close to 50/50, road track/autox banditos would take it no problem, drag would be interesting
Liam McKeever true, but remember this, Chris is going factory computer not standalone, and will not be able to optimize the v10 with the mods he’s done, undoubtedly he will run rich without cats, even with a flash it’ll still be excessively rich tune, more gas without more air = less power. I trust banditos would do everything pretty close to perfect, so I would expect it to be a close race
Recently started (binge) watching this channel and really impressed how the level of engineering has improved since early episodes. Keep learning and doing dude its inspirational 👍👌
Living your work. Sometimes I see what you are doing and I wonder what the hell is he doing and then at the end of the day magic happens and it all comes together and makes sense.
Make sure to leave enough room to pull the engine if you need to in the future! It sounded like you were planning on welding a bar over the engine when you described your plan. Good progress man! It’s starting to look like a car again!
maybe cover you engine? all those openings, would suck if anything got in there and end up having engine probems . especialy with all the welding/grinding
Regarding the ITB's: when you weld and grind carbon steel around aluminum or even stainless, the small dust like pieces that fly off are ionized and will "weld themselves" to the body of the ITB's or surrounding metals, or even concrete. It won't be a matter of cleaning them as you will have changed the chemical makeup of them, they will eventually start to rust. Just FYI, keep them covered is my opinion. Nice work overall.
Some people may like shorter vlogs, but I miss the longer, more detailed vids. It may not make as big of a difference if there wasn't 2min ads within these 10 min vlogs. If it's easier for you as far as editing, I totally understand. Just my opinion.
With the way RUclips works, it's just healthier for the channel if he puts out more videos. I also like the longer videos, but if this helps the channel grow, I'm all for it. Chris deserves the subs.
Did you test fit the front fenders to make sure they fit after Chris? The nose body line dives down quick at the front. Also the Datsun 1200 factory competition manual slotted the stud holes for the strut top to allow for camber adjustment so your thinking along the right method
For space saving purposes you should remove the emissions related items from the motor with block off plates I know I saved a lot of my BMW removing the SAP and valve by blocking it off
Looking good......just please make sure the front of those tubes where they meet the rails are welded super secure...maybe with gussets....cos when you think about it, the whole weight of the front of the car passes through those two joints.....
Why not put boxes off of the A pillar at the fire wall so if you ever wreck it you have a nice flat surface to cut from and rebuild. They do this with buggies, rock crawlers and race cars all the time to make it faster and easier for frame reapairs.
What’s the plans for the drive shaft? The distance between the trans and diff look really short and at a pretty big angle between the 2 points, possibly greater than 1-3 degrees recommended.
hey chris i know ur modding the front but the 240 kinda duck bills... are you sure the front isnt to blocky to fit the front on properly? fender clearance is great but if the front clip doesnt sit right.. you know what i mean? just my two cents bro love the work keep it up just check the front clip and hood since the nose does drop on the 240z
nice to see how the front tubes came out. seems like a solid design for the towers. now with the motor being shifted that one inch to the right, it will look kinda off, but its gonna be sick, also whats the update on the driveshaft for this?
What are you going to do with the unibody because as of right now it looks crazy unsafe. (If I've missed that information somewhere along the way I apologize)
Love this build!!!! Maybe I missed it but what material is the tubing you use for the strut towers? Diameter? Wall thickness? And where did u get that tubing bender? Thanks In advance!
Lancur yes there are. But i would like to see someone use that motor in a build. The crown vic and the triton v10 are both underappreciated so it's kinda fitting imo.
That's funny because when he announced he had bought a car for the next build I immediately thought of a crown vic for some reason. Your idea sounds great!
Derrick Porter it sounds like a cool idea but with Cletus doing the gt500 crown Vic and the whole process of the 240 build I’d bet he’s gonna do a couple less involved smaller builds before the next big one
did you see that speed test? Im not ever obligated to comment anything nice about a sponsor, but theyre coverage and speed is top notch, better than AT&T in my area
Ryan should definitely check out Honey. Thst was my first from Chris and I LOVE it. I've saved over 400 bucks so far by using their price monitoring tool and the codes.
Eric is such a huge asset to the channel. It's so crazy that you only met him through a super coincidental sequence of events.
what's the story on that?
Eliot If I recall correctly, about half way though the Plan A BRZ build in early 2016, Chris bought a new catback exhaust but not the section between the catback and the exhaust manifold.

dyran this is a small world !
I really hope chris gets the 240z right so he can prove all the people saying he couldn't do it wrong
Who's doubting my boi?!?
CookieTehGamarh 60% of everyone lol. Not that we doubt him. We're just saying it's way too much work and money for what it's worth.

TitanSilver354 i'm sorry guys. I'm Portuguese.doing my best here.
Your talking about cleaning out the ITBs before starting the engine but I guarantee when your mocking up the gas peddle you are gonna forget and press in it. Better off cleaning them out now and tape them up 😉
The ITBs probably won't do anything if he presses the gas because its drive by wire. If the battery isn't connected, the ITBs won't move
No they are fully closed, modern engines use idle vavle to get smooth idle.
Usually don't comment on RUclips but damn is this build getting together, I've been here from the start of this build and I am in love with this build. Keep it up because I'd like to see more content like this!!!

Don't forget to re check if the fenders clear the tubes
Dude, Chris, for using $200 +/- tools from harbor freight in essentially a home garage, you and Eric are doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

Jayden caster angle

This is a gnarly F'n build. Crazy work man!
The thing is if he will finish before sema 2018
I really want to hear this v10 rev. To be honest I had doubts that you will finish this build, but now your doing some real progress. Well done👍👍
You should test fit the wheels again when you can mount the bags. That may add to how big of a spacer you need.
B is for Bending tubes. Nice work. Long time follower, first time commenter from Australia.

i would like to know i can get a pipe bender like that .
Hell yeah Chris. Keep it up. Have a nice time camping.
Progress is coming along quick! Awesome stuff!
Cant wait to see this thing done!!! Its finally taking form!!!!
Goodluck getting your front end back together to look stockish. God speed sir.

With the itbs, you should raise them up a bit, and pop the big oval/squareish air filter out the bonnet :D

Does the nose piece fit over the bar? Looks tall near the front.
At least there's a piece of cardboard over the ITB's now 😓
calm down it will be fine
Chris Starr yeah but people like to show off the fact that they think they know better. It’s the internet after all
Daniel G you arent the one that has to clean them you fuck
the worring part is how much went into at least one or two cylinders that have the intake valves open.
throttle butterfly valves are shut

This thing is coming out awesome keep doing you man! I do agree you should go ahead and clean those itbs before you get excited and hit the gas peddle
What brand of tube bender is that? Or if you have a video of you going through the tools you use for chassis fab.
This is a really special build, probably would beat the 'Devil Z'.
Shoutout to whoever get's the reference.
I'm curious what tubing bender that is? I've never seen one quite like that
@BisforBuild Mint mobile data pricing concept have been around for years in Norway. About time tho :)
Damn Chris it's coming together man getting excited keep up the good work brother love it. 👍👍

measurement square profile for engine and what this type steel?
Hey Chris what vendor are using ???
I'm digging this build. Kind of like the Bibster, but work is getting done.
Looking boss
Almost rollin'!

Have you ever thought of changing the SMG into a manual with a real shifter and clutch???
Looks sooo sick!
