- My 1970 Dodge Charger needed a real chassis for the kind of driving I had in mind. It’s pretty impressive what what we can build from scratch with the right parts and tools, and a few good friends. This time, we’re wrapping up the base frame build for the Willomet Charger chassis, so settle in for some good problem solving and how-to, and enjoy the steady burn that is this project.

Impressive editing! You made the big ford look fast and Hollywood magic is the only thing that can do that!
The ford racing the suburban - next episode. Can’t thank you enough for being a part of the project! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to order some more Bessey F clamps.
sorry to be off topic but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Malakai Riley Instablaster :)
@Zaire Axl thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Zaire Axl It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out!
Great work on everything. The frame is epic, but the fact that it's handcrafted by you and your buddies is where the beauty is. I bet you know every inch of it by not only sight but by feel. The memories come when you stare at it in the garage and remember it going together with those guys. Then thinking forward to what it will allow the car to do over and above the average street bruiser. Thanks for taking the time to record the build and share it so we can be there with you. Can't wait for more.
I appreciate the kinds words and encouragement, Rob. It’s as enjoyable to build with friends as it is to share here. Lots more to come.
I've just watched the two-part chassis build. The quality of your filming, editing and production is staggering. I honestly felt like I was watching a professional television show. Even your voice is perfect for narration. Brilliant story line, fabulous chassis build quality, and time spent doing things you love with friends. What a superb pair of videos. Now I have all of the rest of your channel to catch up on. Well done!
Thanks Craig, I appreciate your kind words, and I’m glad you’re here and enjoying the channel.
The Master Craftsmen demonstrated their skills, talents, expertise, knowledge, and above all, attention to minute details.
Honestly, this stuff gets me super pumped to get started on my bumpers. Bravo sir. Bravo.
You’re doing great work on the truck, and will really enjoy that process. I will follow with interest!
Willomet Motor & Fab thanks dude. I watch and learn from the best. You’re music in these videos is always on point btw.
This channel should explode, so good !
Glad you're here for the ride man. Thank you for the support.
Wow, seriously wow! That must feel amazing to go from idea to sketch, to pieces of raw metal to fabricated frame. Well done David.
It’s a feeling like no other. I’m glad you enjoyed the episode, and thanks.
I usually watch off road fabrication but this sir like watching art being created.
It’s all hotrod junk, dirt or pavement. I’m glad you liked it. Also, we’ll be switching to offroad hotroddery next.
I just watched all the Charger videos. I've been missing some wonderful content! Keep up the fine work!
Glad you like them! With the truck stable and reliable, I'm going to get back to the Charger in pretty short order.
Only just found this, it’s so great in every way. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoy it!
Nice to see you making some good progress! Quality work takes time, but it feels great when you can take a step back and look at what you, and your friends have accomplished together. This looks like a big accomplishment too!
You’re absolutely right - always great to pause and appreciate the work. This was a milestone for sure. I’m glad you like the video, and thanks!
Great video, awesome commentary, fantastic attention to detail. I'm excited to see this chassis rollin 👍
Thanks 👍
Exact before and AFTER welding makes a huge difference.
How does this have 16k views and only 360+ thumbs up? Amazing work.
Thanks man. I don’t know if that’s a normal ratio. I just built stuff and turn on the camera.
Great work David. I hope you find peace in what you do.
Thanks man. These are great fun to construct, and I am so glad you enjoyed it.
Just stumbled on this channel. Awesome content duder I'm subbed!
Hey bud - glad you’re here. 👍
There are ways of bending square tubes without getting the tubes sides bend.
1 - Sand filled bending - a bit more work than conventional bending but can be done with the same machinery
2 - Pressurise the inside of the tube - a bit more work than conventional bending and it needs some kind of a hydraulic aggregate.
Cool details!
Very nice project guys🤙💯
Thank you 🙌
Great job with your video!
Thanks!
I would like to have a chassis built for my 72 charger. Then I would definitely upgrade the engine to something with more horsepower. Great job on your setup.
Thank you! This chassis really has opened up a world of possibilities.
Easy watching 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice frame brother
Thanks 👍
Any more updates on this? and this is amazing, I'm actually working on a project with 3x2 14ga so comforting seeing someone else with this level of ambition.
I'm jamming on the truck right now, but I'll be back on the Charger in 2021
Best car fabricator channel i have found. Great job guys! Question, what miller tig welder are you using?
Hey, thanks for those kind words - glad you're here. We did all the rough assembly with a Miller Dynasty 280. I did the rest of the finish welding on my Everlast 210EXT.
I wish I had your skills and time. I would like to make a frame for my C3 corvette
With the options available today, it’s a really good deal to buy a frame. I have thousands of hours on this, and still about half the cost of a turnkey frame and suspension.
Willamette motor and fab where can I purchase a table or jig like the one the frame is being assembled on? Thanks and great work!!!
Hit up David Demoise on Instagram. I think he's tagged in this episode. He has a series of different sizes, and can make one to your spec, too.
Hi
Very good job.
What is kind of steel is used for chassis fab?
That's mostly 4x2 mild in this video. I tend to use chromoly tube everywhere else.
You're putting a 4" tall frame under a unibody car (though I assume you'll have a custom floor to accommodate it). I assume the car will be lower than stock. Is ground clearance a concern? Curious to see how driveshaft and exhaust will be routed.
Ground clearance is set at 4.5” under the front crossmember and about 6” at the rear of the rocker. There’s no more factory floor or unibody, so parts and systems will route to make a flat bottom car.
I'm enjoying these videos! Very interesting. Btw, your American flag is backwards. Stars always go upper left corner. Sorry, had to point it out because it keeps popping out at me.
I would like to have a chassis built for my 72 charger. Then I would definitely upgrade the engine to something with more horsepower.
are those welds going to hold up tho? are those any special type of welds? specific wire used commonly on vehicle frames which less prone to fail? Please cover this THANKS
Those TIG welds will do just fine. We used regular 70S-2 and -6 filler.
Regular mild steel tube?
4x2 .120 mild
You missed the driveway roll center near the rear axle. You need this for any kind of racing.
you'll see in later episodes, this uses a torque arm and watts link
@@WillometMotorFab Don't like watts linkage either, use trapezoid four link rails, it's easier.
How is rectangle tubing bent.
There's a clip of the special 4x2 bender in the first frame building episode
Why did you choose square tubing for the frame?
I chose 4x2 rectangular tubing because it’s easy to bend and it’s a good strength vs weight balance for this build.
@Willomet Motor & Fab OK awesome I just usually see people using normal round tubing.
Is this 1/8 inch wall thickness?
It's all .120 wall before pending. The outside will thin to about .100-.110, while the fat side gets a smidge thicker.
@@WillometMotorFab thanks that helps a lot 🙏🏽
Did you narrate Sandlot Kids?
I watched that movie a hundred times. Maybe more.
i have a 69 charger also how much did you spend on making the chasis
It's been a while, so reach out to Jimmy at MRC in NC. He was able to quote my rails in a couple of days. The options vary pretty widely.
Would you build one and sell it? I need one for a 68 charger
Roadster shop and art Morrison have that market well taken care of.
Lol, I'll shut up now, but that's his, but now you need a couple, and btw they don't have to be top dollar.
Due to their nature, they all are accurate to a fine degree, if you are about locations.
PS
Have I mentioned that I seriously am die hard Blues fanatic, and your choice of music is right where I like to turn things up to the level, that my neighbors shake their heads, but let me be, and they're no where near as close as any of yours are.
Lmfao old age has it's benefits, not nearly as many as the deficits it carries.
Blues and folk and jazz and traditional roots music is my go to. It’s all tops with me. Glad you’re digging it.
I don't like it, too many curves, not enough triangles. I do like the 2 x 4's.
I love the videos but I wish they would do more then 1 video a month . I just dont see the point subscribing just saying
David - first, thanks for being here. I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I make these as frequently as I have something meaningful to share, and at a pace that lets me balance my full time gig and a quality family life. For more real time updates, swing over and take a gander at the instagram.
