It is amazing to see how such a low priced pencil manufacturing involves so much pain and labor of people. Hats off to General Pencil Company which has roots from the year 1860.
I came here just to see how the damn lead was put into the wood and they just decided not to show that part. Is the process too much of a secret that they skipped this most important part?
watch it again... it says it around the 4 min. mark, but you may be disappointed on the process since it is probably much more simple than you thought.
"The graphite cores are glued into the slat" (the groove already made in one half of the wooden pencil shell), "and then covered with another" (another slat, or groove, already carved into the other half of the wooden pencil shell).
I've watched a lot of How It's Made over the years because it's very calming to me and I don't think I've ever seen people take as much pride in their product as these people.
I still have a callous on my middle writing finger that I developed early in elementary school from writing with pencils. It has been there since 1960.
I remember when I was in 4th grade and my teacher put black Ticonderoga pencils every Monday. Let just say they didn't last long since I used to take 10.
Wooden Pencils: human-equivalent to regular wooden pencils Mechanical Pencils: they're just robot pencils Pens: robot pencils that are so advanced that they're literally named "pens"
1: " working at the pencil factory is so fun! " 2: " really? How so? " 1 " we make things like cakes and sandwiches " 2: * is online applying for a job there * "I'm applying "
I worked for a pencil company here in Shelbyville, Tn called Musgrave Pencil Company. Opened in 1916. We took raw material (slats, graphite, etc) and created pencils, though not exactly in the manner in which they do in the vid.
I literally asked this question in math class in the middle of an equation. I was just looking at my pencil, then asked how pencils were made, and everybody was just like... What?
I love using pencils. It is one of the most powerful tools ever created. From love notes to declarations of freedom the pencil has played a part. When I think about all the wonderful literature made possible because of the pencil; all the beautiful art made possible by the pencil, all the scientific breakthroughs possible because of the pencil; all the young men and women who received an education made possible by the pencil, all the ............................... well, the pencil is a first class tool which made the world we live in today. THAT IS QUITE AN ACCOMPLIISHMENT FOR A HUMBLE LITTLE INSTRUMENT. Oh some things will still have come about, but only a fraction of what we have and can we be sure they would be so beautiful, functional and beneficil? Of course we have all those companies to thank which, despite many a want to be coming along, never lost confidence in the power of the pencil.
Abdullah Mohammed the wood part is made exactly the same. The eyeshadow has a beeswax and oil base mixed with the pigments is probably extruded. try looking at the video for making colored pencils. I bet the method is very similar.

I came here just to see how the damn lead was put into the wood and they just decided not to show that part. Is the process too much of a secret that they skipped this most important part?
around min 4, "the graphite cores are glued into one slat an covered with another, forming a sandwich" -
Lol I missed that part as well, same reason I came here after I looked at my pencil on my desk.
NIck Quintong - Thanks Nick I figured thats how it was done with just a coating over it.

One question, how was graphite inserted into pencil? I only came here for that...
watch it again... it says it around the 4 min. mark, but you may be disappointed on the process since it is probably much more simple than you thought.
sani jared they glue it in
"The graphite cores are glued into the slat" (the groove already made in one half of the wooden pencil shell), "and then covered with another" (another slat, or groove, already carved into the other half of the wooden pencil shell).
Trying to study. Looks at pencil. Now I'm here.

LazyScoutJace ....ADHD much.....hahaha.
Well, at least you're still learning stuff lol

They should put more eraser on a pencil. Then we wouldn't use up erasers up so quickly.
Just Another SU/UNDERTALE fan that's the point, to make us buy more pencils
I've watched a lot of How It's Made over the years because it's very calming to me and I don't think I've ever seen people take as much pride in their product as these people.

I still have a callous on my middle writing finger that I developed early in elementary school from writing with pencils. It has been there since 1960.
Thanks for the video. When I saw the title, I remembered the comment James Burke made in the series "Connections" that no single man makes a pencil.
This factory has only one worker: John
Um, no. Ticonderoga is still the best brand.
+Jnvska Ticonderoga is wicked awesome, they just feel great when scribbling.
Blackwing 602, General's Semi-Hex, and Koh-I-Noor 2B pencils are my favourites. Too bad Blackwing 602's are pricey.

greenymaco You’ve never sharpened a pencil and then smelled the tip of it?
Dude that smell is my shit.
It has more to do about cedar more than the pencil. Cedarwood is known for it's soothing aroma and they also use it's essential oils in aromatherapy.
"graphite works by leaving itself behind"
just like my dad
Coal can leave a mark too!
The whole time they were making the " graphite" it didn't break but as soon as you put it on your paper it's going to break
Well, they made their point
to this day i prefer a pencil drawing over a painting
They just call the machine...a pencil machine..OH WELL..
I just wasted about two hours of my life watching videos like this.
Specs Dragon true
"Traditionally a hex pencil would not roll of the table."
Then why does my pencil roll?
John wick's favorite weapon
