Just a quick video showing how I replaced the serpentine drive belt and drive belt tensioner on a 2007 Honda Accord with the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine.
This would be the same for 2003-2007 and for the Honda CR-V and Element.
The tools used in the video:
14mm long handle wrench or serpentine belt tool
12mm deep and mid-length socket
10mm socket
It helps to have a few different lengths of socket wrenches and short socket extensions to get the right fit on each bolt.
The torque specs I found online said 16 ft. lbs for the tensioner mounting bolts and the power steering pump bolts.
Thanks for watching!

Did this on my accord 07 2.4l and this video helped a lot. Espically when you tell us what tools are needed so i dont need to keep running back to the garage. Have a good one man
Thanks for a easy follow along and for including the belt placement picture
Putting the belt back on inspired me to finish my houses sheetrock so I can punch holes in it
I will be doing mines today. Thanks for making it a simple procedure. I'll let you know how it turned out.
thats a long job
Well what happened did it work lol
Did it go ok?
Great video! I'm going to be tackling this next week. Had to replace my belt because it shredded itself to death from the power steering pump leaking onto the belt. I'd bought the tensioner and belt awhile back but I put off installing them until I needed to. So I'll be swapping the tensioner and the PS pump at the same time😅
You gave me the confidence to try and do it myself. I Will attempt it tomorrow thank you!
I'm so sorry I laughed so hard when you dropped that bolt. It's happened to me so many times
looks abt the same for a v6 just diff diagram for the belt, this has helped alot thank you kind sir
HOW MANY MILES WHEN THE TIMING CHAIN FAILED? DID THE TRANNY FAIL ALSO? IF SO HOW MANY MILES?
The timing chain 'stretched' or wore out causing it to appear to be stretched and longer than it should be which caused it to skip a few teeth and the engine to get out of proper timing. I think that this happened just before 240k miles. We still have this vehicle and it has about 260k miles now. The transmission still works great.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you for video. Did it myself and I’am proud of saving money !
That long ratchet is nice! 😍
Isn’t there an arrow somewhere on the tensioner signifying that it needs to be replaced?
I've read to the right is belt to the left tensioner usually...saying for 04 accord in my experience..it's also always not 100% accurate but should lead you the right way
Loved the video! Thanks for the help, made me feel better when you dropped the bolt too!
Did this today. But I only changed the belt. The tensioner bolt almost got rounded I think I need to change it need time. I had to keep tugging the belt it on the top as you can lose a finger if that wrench slip from the bolt of the tensioner and it happed 6 times when I was doing it. Be careful
What is the official interval for replacing the belt (09 accord though)? Thanks!
Great video. Quick question. You said that 12mm socket isn't a deep socket but like a medium length socket? Any idea where I can find one. I'm afraid my 12mm deep socket even with 1/4" ratchet won't fit. Thanks. NEVERMIND... I had to expand your description. Gearwrench.. good enough!!
That was a great video. Thanks for posting that. Very helpful.
Just did mine. Thanks!
Great and helpful video.
Hi after a storm my belt started doing noise you think I need to change the belt let me know thanks??
Cool video a lot of help thanks simple and easy
Thank you for this video I need to do a serpentine belt and tensioner made me confident it won’t be a pain in the @ss haha
Dan I broke the middle long nut while installing ! So I had to take off the the new tensioner pulley. What should I do to take off the broken nut ? It’s stuck on the metal part that holds the tensioner. Just a little piece is sticking out
Oh my, so sorry to hear that. You may be able to get some vise grips on the part sticking out enough to back it out, or you can use a small punch and try to back it out carefully. There's a few other methods out there, maybe try searching to see if there's a video that would show something similar to what you're dealing with.
So sorry that happened, hope you can get it figured out without too much trouble.
Best of luck!

Thanks Dan! I was able to take the screw with vise grips and pliers took 10 minutes I had a heart attack. I had to go replace the bolt, sucks because I had to replace them with a little bigger nut so I would have to take it off with a 13 socket
What are the torque specs on a 2007 Honda accord 3.0 VTec serpentine belt? I can't find it anywhere online. Please help!
Is there a washer on the tensioner
what size is tensional bolt n how long
How do you know when you need to change the tensioner?
After taking off the belt, you can spin it and it’s noisy or doesn’t feel smooth, it’s bad.
What should i do if my tensioner pulley is stuck? I cant get it to move very much.. not enough to release the tension on the belt so i can remove the belt. Thank you
cut it
@@drkimble7315 i had someone hold the pulley as far as it would lift and then used a panel popper to get the belt off. I couldve just cut it though. I was able to replace the tensioner assembly with no problem
@@drapesmatchrug did you remove the mount to get the back botl in? i dont think i have a choice but to remove it.
@@drkimble7315 im not really sure what you mean, youll have to rephrase the question. And I need more info on the problem you're having. Ill get with you in the morning, im going to sleep
@@drapesmatchrug you havnt watched the video in a while. the left engine mount. the big bracket that blocks access to the back bolt.
Is that me or it sounds like if it was too tight?
I installed mine and it still doesn’t give me enough tension is it too tight maybe ?
I would double check the belt diagram and make sure you got everything back together correctly. And/or make sure if you are replacing the belt that it is the correct size/length.
Best of luck to you!

@@DantheFixitMan I figured it out eventually after days of annoying noise the tensioner just needed to be tightened a little more after installing
@@easymoney495 Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Thanks for the update!
There is no recommended guide for replacement on tensioner. Any ideas when you should replace or just when you notice issues? 120k+ ?
It is a spring inside that tensioner and if you think how much idling and years are on this tensioning part. I would say every 100k, For how cheap and usually simple to replace. I am replacing my brothers honda accord idler pulley. It has made it over 250k miles before making noise.
Mines at 210k just went bad. Replaced the belt at 203k and the noise started again
Clicking sound !😅
Glad someone got that…
what size is that tension bolt
14 mm
